1993 was the year Ballard Natural Gas Service was born into the Seattle metro area. Conceived to take advantage of the expertise that Landis Kappen had garnered over his years at Washington Natural Gas. Thinking there was a better way Landis and his wife Kathleen started Ballard Natural Gas Service when Washington Natural Gas made a corporate decision to get out of servicing customer equipment and doing installation of HVAC equipment.
They continued to operate their new business out of the family home for a number of years. Ballard Natural Gas Service's goal is to grow mostly through word of mouth and our clients referrals to their family, friends, co-workers and business associates.

We recently had Ballard Natural Gas replace our old oil furnace with a nice new heat pump and we couldn't be happier. Not only is the new device outstanding (heat and AC) but they also put in new ducts that were laid out in a much better location in the home. Everyone we worked with at Ballard Natural Gas was very knowledgeable and quite helpful. They even made the local city conversion rebate process a breeze. Would highly recommend Ballard Natural Gas.

We've received great service each time we had our mini split AC and gas fireplace maintained. We've been lucky to have the same technician (Matt Deehring) come for the past 2 years, and he is amazing! He is really knowledgeable and always does thorough work. He's the reason why we have stayed with Ballard Natural Gas Service! Services: A/C system maintenance, Heating system maintenance

I have used Ballard Natural Gas Services in the past; installed a new gas furnace. They ended up being one of the companies I called for a ductless heat pump quote. Their sales rep; Tyler, has been amazing. He has been responsive to all of my many questions and even made a second trip to my home to answer a few more questions. I have not made a decision yet. However, once I finally do, I will go with BNGS mainly due to Tyler.

We booked this company for a three day job beginning on Monday. The job included a furnace replacement and a heat pump installation, The Lennox heat pump was defective, so they advised us they would receive a new one Friday and complete the installation. The heat pump didn't arrive until Friday afternoon, so they told us they would finish the job early the following week.
The next Monday, they don't show up, so we call, and they advise us that they won't be able to complete the install until Friday. They didn't even bother with the courtesy of calling to let us know when they'd be there to complete the job, so we could schedule ourselves around their availability. Finally, it's a politically polarized world now, but when you are the face of a company at the jobsite and decide to refer to President Biden as "Sleepy Joe, " you should probably be aware of the potential of alienating a customer and eliminating the likelihood of future referrals.

Josh, our technician, was a pleasure! He was professional and communicative and clearly explained the service he was doing and why it was important. On the phone, Maria and the gentleman who helped schedule our service were helpful, flexible, and very personable. All around great service and generally lovely folks. We will continue to work with Ballard Natural Gas Service and encourage you to work with them, too!

I always appreciate the work done by the Ballard Natural Gas Service team. Recently, Chris and Justin arrived (right within the scheduled time window) to maintain my home's furnace and water heater. After both systems were serviced, they clearly described potential furnace repairs, based on logged error codes. I am confident the furnace and water heater will continue working as reliably as possible, thanks to the knowledge, skill and professionalism of the BNGS staff.

We had them replace a gas furnace in my 93 year old mom's home in Seattle. Their entire staff from beginning to end was professional, knowledgeable and easy to work with. They showed up when they said they would show up. We received detailed estimates of exactly what work they needed to do to complete the job. Communication with Tony, the sales representative, Maria and Edie in the office and Shane online was seamless.
On the morning of the installation the technicians were here when they said they would be here, efficiently removed and replaced the Bryant furnace with a new smaller Lenox and replaced the Honeywell thermostat with a simple dial model that my mom is thrilled to be able to continue to use herself. The new furnace is quiet and doing a great job of uniformly heating her house. I would definitely recommend them.

BNGS installed a Mitsubishi heat pump at my house this winter. They did a fantastic job. Jay and his helpers did an excellent job with the installation. Their technician Norm is adding some new dampers in the duct work to balance cooling in the house this summer. He is so knowledgeable and helpful, just great to work with. Services: Heating system installation, HVAC system maintenance, HVAC duct & vent installation

Our gas water heater blew up (13 years old) late on a Monday afternoon. Josh the on call technician returned my call within half an hour and walked me through how to shut off tank and drain it. A new tank was installed the next morning by 11 am. We were without hot water for less than 24 hours. I really appreciate the responsiveness and professionalism of Ballard Natural Gas and their employees.

A few years ago our heater needed to be replaced. It had been running since 1974 and 30 years later was on its last legs. After talking to three different companies, I selected Ballard Natural Gas; they met with us and provided a range of informed recommendations. The end result is a more efficient and better heater and thermostat and the work was done quickly and cleanly.
In December 2021 we called BNG in to do a check up of the equipment and we were once again happy with their friendly and professional service and were impressed with the PPE protocols they had in place during the pandemic.

The FIVE STAR maintenance is the best deal around. One annual fee covers regular inspection and maintenance on furnace and heat pump. And prompt service calls if any problems come up. I've been with Ballard Natural Gas for several decades including furnace replacement and addition of heat pump, which is a fantastic investment. Every service call is professional-- FIVE STARS to the whole team!

We called BNGS when our old furnace broke this fall. I had called other companies first and they had all said they'd be able to come out within a few weeks. I called BNGS and they sent someone out within a day and that person not only gave us a quick estimate on replacing the furnace, but also sat and chatted with us about what it would take to update our whole system (we live in an old house that we're currently remodeling, so updating the HVAC was something we had been considering).
He ended up designing a whole new system for us with a better heating solution Plus AC, and was able to fit us in in a much shorter timeframe than any other company we had spoken with. ALSO, I want to add that the crew who came and did the work was SO polite. Not just with us, but also with each other. This might not sound like such a huge deal, but when you're working from home all day it's so nice hearing people having civil exchanges with each other, rather than yelling angrily from room to room (which is often the case with companies we've hired for various work at our house).
It was just so refreshing that they were respectful of us and our space, and also respectful of each other as they worked. It just speaks to a nice culture at this company. They came when they said they would, they did what they said they were going to do, they did the work in the timeframe they estimated (I think it took one day longer than they anticipated, which is miraculous during Covid with supply chain issues), and they charged us what they said they were going to charge. I'll also add that they are very easy to communicate with. Any time we've had to call them throughout this process they get back to us quickly and always seemed eager to resolve any issues and answer any questions.

We asked for an estimate to convert to electric heating and cooling. Tony investigated our system and because our gas furnace is only 4 years old and 95 0/0 efficient, he recommended that we delay making the switch for a few years. Our carbon footprint is low because of the high efficiency of the furnace. Tony is knowledgeable and thoughtful. His evaluation is well-founded, and we respect his advice.

I set out to add air conditioning to an existing forced-air furnace. Had trouble even getting an estimate over this last summer. Ballard booked the appointment (out several months) and came out and did a complete estimate, and printed it from their mobile office setup, and explained everything. Other HVAC folks I contacted either tried really hard to upsell, ghosted, or did a less precise estimate, inadequate explanation, or just didn't seem to care. Everyone I've spoken with is efficient and helpful and most cordial. Highly recommend using Ballard Natural Gas (they do electric also) for any HVAC work.

These guys came out for 5 minutes, 4 of which were used to be on a phone call with someone else. He said I need a new part and charged me $200. I already knew I needed a new part. That's why I called. You're going to charge me $200 just to tell me something I already know for being in my house for 1 minute? This is NOT a good way to instill confidence and respect. I felt like I was being ripped off and if you continue with money first instead of understanding your customers, you will suffer. Just not good service.

We had some specific requirements around potential lead dust cleaning. You had assured us that no dust would fly out of the vents because they would be sealed during cleaning. But that was not the case. At one point dust flew out of the very vent vent we were worried about and there was no real sealing. All the team did was put a piece of paper on the vent. We are disappointed to say the least.

Like everyone else during the heat wave I wanted to know what my options for cooling were. We are longtime customers (they installed and serviced our old gas furnace) and they came the next day to give us an estimate, and were able to install a new energy efficient electric heat pump the next week. Though their name makes you think otherwise, they promote and install electric options and so got us off fossil fuels, which made me very happy.
On the day of install the guys were there exactly on time and finished exactly when they said they would. As I said we've used them for years with no issues and this experience sealed the deal in terms of customer loyalty.

Ballard Natural Gas designed and installed a new air conditioning/heat pump system for our house. The design and installation cost close to $20,000. The new system actually increases the humidity levels in the house when the air conditioner is running (upwards of 70% and higher). We have tried to work with Ballard Natural Gas for over a year to try and fix the issue.
We have experienced technicians being rude and stating we are doing something to cause the issue, to removing the Nest thermostats, to Ballard Natural Gas completely ignoring and ghosting us regarding the problem. Phone calls and emails go unanswered. When we do finally reach someone they reassure us they are "working on it" however, then no response for weeks or months. We do not recommend Ballard Natural Gas for your heating/air conditioning needs and would recommend you go elsewhere. Their service is poor all around. Thanks for reading.

Estimator came out and recommended a replacement furnace that would fit the space of the old wall one. Payment in full was required in advance. New wall furnace installation did not fit the opening. Horrible installation, large 2 x 3 ft hole from the living room into the bedroom and much damage to the sheet rock. Called multiple times and sent photos. Was told they would cover the damage. Gave me the name of their repair person, that person would not work for them again. Had my repair person give an estimate for sheet rock repair of the holes and painting.
The management person at Ballard Natural Gas did not return my call for over a week. Then he refused to even consider the estimate and said it would only take a fraction of the estimate and he wouldn't pay for the repair. I've been doing business with Ballard Natural Gas for over 30 years for my home and for rental property. The repair to my property cost me $1,500. I did not receive any reimbursement form Ballard Natural Gas. Manager was rude and dismissive. I will never do business with them again.

My issues are with the booking service and company overall, not the technician. I explained to the booking service that I had two furnaces in the home that needed routine servicing, and had some questions for the technician as a new homeowner. They quoted me a service appointment price of $199 total. After the technician arrives, he informs me that they misquoted me and that it would be $199 per furnace. Paying double what I expected is never a good experience and a company that cares about customer service should do right by their customer by providing honoring the original quote.
After all, this is a repeat customer business and not a one-off transaction. The technician was able to manage both furnace servicing, but I did feel that he had a pushy sales script including suggesting I add several thousands of dollars worth of addons (a $1600 air scrubber installation, $800+ earthquake valve, $600+ duct cleaning service, and a few others) even though my furnaces were running great by his own admission, and especially after I'm being charged double what was quoted. Generally an uncomfortable experience.

I have a high efficiency Lennox gas furnace that stopped working a little before Christmas. The first company I called came out, spent over an hour investigating, and told me I probably had a cracked heat exchanger and that I should just replace the whole furnace. I paid almost $200 for this diagnosis. I then called another company to get a second opinion but they couldn't get me on their schedule until after Christmas unless I wanted to pay extra. That's when I called Ballard Natural Gas.
The first appointment was scheduled on Christmas Eve for no additional cost. They diagnosed the issue as the pressure switch, replaced it for the cost of labor and no parts cost (just under 10 year warranty), tested the system, then left. Unfortunately, the furnace started hitting the same issue within the hour. The guy came back out, diagnosed it as a bad blower fan, and told me he had to get the part ordered before they could replace it.
In the mean time, they offered portable heaters for me to use to keep warm. They called me back a few days later saying they had the part. They came out the same/next day (can't remember) and replace the blower for zero cost (no parts or labor), but the problem persisted. At this point, the technician got on a call with Lennox and walked through the entire system.
This took a long time, but eventually they were convinced it was a bad circuit board. They said they would order a new one (again at no parts cost), and let me know when it arrived. Within a few days, I got the call and set up an appointment for the same/next day (again, can't remember). They replaced the circuit board for zero cost (no charge for parts or labor).
This did the trick and my heater has been working flawlessly for over a month in the middle of winter. I just want to re-iterate that all this happened between Christmas Eve and Jan 5. In the middle of the holiday and winter season, having to order parts twice. Some people will probably complain that they should have fixed it on the first visit, but I don't think that's entirely fair.
Lots of times with these more complicated systems, there can be many points of failure and so you go from the most obvious and go down the list. Yes, they had to come out 3 times, but in the end I got the problem fixed for just two labor charges (initial diagnosis and one charge for the fix). I didn't have to ask them to not charge me for subsequent visits.
In my opinion, and given the problem and waiting for the parts, I think getting this issue fixed in under 2 weeks during the holiday/winter season is great. I ended up saving almost $6k.

Having recently a bought a house on Beacon Hill that relied on oil heat from a very old and stinky furnace, I knew I had to replace my heating system before winter. I interviewed 4 different heating folks who would honor the Seattle heat pump $1500 rebate for a Mitsubishi model. Ballard Natural Gas service was the last company I interviewed to give me a quote. Tony was great at giving me a complete overview of what I needed in order to efficiently heat my 3 story house.
He was kind, knowledgeable, and I never got that salesy type feel I had with other folks I interviewed. The quote for the heat pump and replacing the water heaters as well as hauling away my oil tank was the most cost effective for me. Other companies either wanted to only replace one water heater or didn't want to haul away my old oil tank - which meant extra $$ I would have to spend to find people who would do that.
I appreciate that Ballard Natural Gas would do it all for me. The day of installation, there were around 5 vans that showed up to do a specific job. I mention this so you are prepared that it isn't just 1 big truck and a few people who do the job. The process seemed fast, efficient, and everyone wore masks. The only small problem I experienced was somehow one of my new water heaters was not turned on when they left.
Not wanting to mess anything up with electrical, I called them to get someone out. Since it was the weekend, I had to go with cold showers until Monday. Quick and easy fix for them to do though, and everything else works great. Customer service was handled very well by every interaction I had with Seth and Crystal.

Estimator showed up almost 2 hours before the window he gave, with only moments notice before arrival. He ballparked $30,000 for the project then never sent a bid. After 3 weeks, they texted another family member who lives out of the area (based on old records that we repeatedly asked them to update) in the middle of the night. The receptionist, Seth, talks over me every time I call, loves the sound of his own voice (think failed radio announcer), and fails to listen because he's too busy interrupting, trying to finish sentences, and guessing (usually wrong) when I'm going to say, rather than asking and allowing me to answer. I would never work with them and strongly recommend avoiding them if difficult customer service frustrates you.

Shame on you! Did not notify of fire danger with a part they installed, which caught fire. Are not owing up to it when all I am asking is they make the repair. You put lives at risk. You still have a photo of the faulty item on this site. You continue to promote it despite being aware is the dangers. If you value your life and safety do not use this company.
Should note that this is not the only problems I have had with this company. I have given them chance after chance prior to this issue - they come with incorrect parts, multiple times, and no credits etc. People who answer the phones are great and have wonderful service. It is too bad nobody else does.

It seems 5 year installation warranty is fake as it relies on them maintaining the product. Anyways I bought a house about a year a go with furnace installed by them and the outside of the wall where vent exits they installed it with the pipe blowing the steam along the wall and there for the paint has been destroyed and the siding too.

Our gas furnace went out in the middle of the coldest few weeks of November. The guys at Ballard Natural Gas were prompt, helpful, explained what was happening with our furnace fully, and even lent us a small space heater in the time we were waiting for our furnace to be installed. Josh was who we worked with directly, and he provided the best customer service!
