Many homeowners are leery of contractors. You probably know of someone, or you yourself, have had a bad experience with a pool contractor. They don't return your phone calls, they take the money and leave you wondering how your project will be finished, or the job is completed but you have issues two weeks later and there is no customer service to be found.
You will not have these problems at Puryear Custom Pools. At Puryear Custom Pools, we believe the key to a successful project is having a great relationship with our customers. As in any relationship, there has to be a foundation of trust and communication.

I would and have, highly recommended Puryear Custom Pools! After looking at a handful of companies we decided to go with Puryear for our pool build due to their service and communication. My designer, Nick Barnes, was phenomenal to work with. He took our vision and brought it to life. Nick is also great at communicating and was always my go to for any issues that came up and he would hop on it to get us going ASAP.
During construction we were lucky enough to work with Chris Barnes as our superintendent and he was fantastic. Chris was great at communicating and did a great job at meeting my expectations during construction. He stayed on his teams, got questions answered and was the straight shooter that I wanted/needed when it came to this process. Our pool was exactly what we wanted and the Puryear team has done everything to take care of issues after we got up and running. Our family is thrilled about what our backyard now looks like and it's all due to the Puryear Family! Thank you everyone!

We absolutely love our pool built by Puryear Customer Pools earlier this year. We've owned a pool before, but had never built a pool before this year and so we really didn't know what to expect. There were 3 phases of the process, each with a designated point person to walk you through everything. Derek helped us with the design and he was awesome.
We have a small backyard and so our options were limited and we wanted to maximize the space. He was patient when he needed to be patient, took the lead when we asked him to take the lead, and took guidance from us when we asked him to. "Derek, I don't want to mow any grass in my backyard and I want to be able to walk around the entire pool with a drink in my hand." He made it happen.
Once the construction kicked off, Chris took over and he came to our house on the first day to introduce himself and most importantly, set proper expectations on the build. He gave us his cell phone number and from then on he was in constant contact all the way through the end of the build. His knowledge of the process as well as the city requirements really took a lot of stress out of the build. Finally, when the build was complete and we had a beautiful pool, Austin stepped in for some finishing touches and to walk us through Pool School.
He taught us what we needed to know to maintain the pool, but honestly, I'd been so impressed with Puryear up to that point that I immediately signed up for their service, which has been stellar and cost-effective to this point. You hear a lot of horror stories about pool construction but this ain't one of 'em. We're very pleased with Puryear Custom Pools and would highly recommend them. We would use them again, but I'm hoping not to need pool construction for a long, long time to come.

AMAZING! From start to finish, the outcomes were fantastic! The project manager was a pleasure to deal with and led us through the entire process. When his crew came, they worked tirelessly to resolve all of the concerns that developed, consulting us at every step of the process. You can see they take great pride in their job. Again, we are grateful to Puryear Custom Pools Pool Builders and would always refer them to others!

We felt like we were talking to a friend when we met with the Puryear Custom Pools team to discuss our dream backyard pool within minutes of meeting. The installation was completed on schedule, and he was open and honest about any complications that arose. The pricing were quite reasonable, and the quality supplied exceeded our expectations. Service after the fact, in terms of autumn close-up and spring opening, has also been excellent. Puryear Custom Pools has now been referred to other friends and coworkers who have had similar experiences.

Like most of you, we decided to build a pool out of the need to stop borrowing our neighbors pools! This is also a COVID pool, meaning most of the neighborhood pools were either closed or had severe restrictions. It also means that supplies and manpower were in short supply, but Puryear still provided everything we wanted. We have a West facing backyard, which gets up to 110 degrees in the summer, so we wanted a way to provide more shade and have a way to cool off. Puryear answered the call out of five different bids.
This company was extremely responsive and continued to answer the call for every concern we had. Jimmy Jacksons was our designer and that poor guy put up with all seven of my design changes and had the best customer service we've seen in a long time. Our construction foreman Chris Barnes did a fantastic job of communicating during the building process and continued to follow-up after the build was complete.
We did run into a few delays as it appears the rest of our area decided to build pools at the same time, however our project was completed before the promise date! As you can see, we don't have a huge backyard, but this build was an incredible task and Puryear was the perfect company for the job!

The staff at Puryear Custom Pools provided excellent service! Regardless matter the size or style of pool I had, they treated me with respect, courtesy, and patience. They not only answered my inquiries and fulfilled my purchase, but they also advised methods to save money and enhance the condition of my pool's water. I will use this firm for all of my pool requirements, and I strongly suggest them to anybody who needs assistance!

Omg, to say we had a great experience wouldn't even be enough! This company did an amazing job in refreshing our backyard, the transformation is awesome! Just see below, we went from old sand stone to beautiful travertine with blue pebble. Our project manager John was amazing, I'm all about communication and he fulfilled that and more! We totally recommend Puryear for a pool remodel, over and over!

Puryear built us a great pool in 2016. They have serviced the pool since it was finished. Today, we had Dominique come out and trouble shoot an issue with our variable speed pump. Dominique was on time and quickly diagnosed the problem and repaired the pump. He was very professional and polite and knowledgeable! Glad he's part of the Puryear team.

Puryear Custom Pools named Top 50 Pool Builder for a good reason.me! We are absolutely delighted with what they built for us. From day one to completion, they kept us informed step by step, provided clearly top construction crews with each phase done right and timely. Their team starting with Evan and project managed by Tim, and taking us to the finish line by Matthew, Austan and Josh simply made the experience stress-free to get us to our happy place. They enabled no doubt what's to com much fun and joyful memories. Five stars for you Puryear Custom Pools!

The build went well and for the most part it was completed on time. The warranty of their work and service department after you have paid is disappointing. We had a problem with their backfilling after completion and we were told to go get some dirt and fill the hole. The pool is two years old and the grout and thin set that holds the coping around our spa is crumbing and when I called they told me it was only a one year warranty which will cover them for their substandard work.
Be careful with this. Also we had them out to add an outdoor kitchen and were never treated with less respect. The salesman looked at the area wrote a number on a piece of paper and left in less than five minutes, not sure if he was having a bad day but he was angry. Never asked what we were looking to do. Unfortunately due to poor craftsmanship and a low quality of service after payment two stars is the best I can give.

Puryear built our pool 11 years ago. It was a phenomenal success and everything they promised. Recently, we had it remodeled. After getting 3 bids, we went with who we knew would get it done well and at a good price. Puryear ultimately delivered, again. And lastly, and based on my most recent use, they made a couple of service calls to repair our electrical equipment.
They not only accurately diagnosed the issues but even stood behind some fall-out items. Their entire service department is beyond first class, as is all the staff I've dealt with. And one insight I gleaned about why they are so successful, the staff loves working for the owners, a truly family owned and operated company. Bravo, Puryear, thanks for being the sort of company I want to deal with for the next decade. - Rob Karov

Puryear has gone above and beyond for us getting our pool equipment updated in a home we bought. They are responsive, professional, and know what they are doing. Their 2 techs Nat and Josh both helped us with major updates and both were awesome! Thanks Puryear for helping us enjoy our pool! Service: General repairs & maintenance

From start to finish, Puryear was great. I started planning for pool creation around March of 2021. Even with the shortage of supplies and high demand for pools, we were able to knock this out within a few months. Very happy with the pool and certainly glad to be able to spend the rest of summer using it. Highly recommend this company as everyone is very friendly and helpful throughout the entire process. I certainly understand how pools work a lot more than I did before going through this journey.

We heard about Puryear Pools from a friend that had previously built a pool with them. Our custom design was a 38 foot play pool with an in-grounded spa (see pics). At each step of the process, the people at Puryear that we interacted with were helpful, friendly, responsive, and professional. Each of the specialized work crews were meticulous with the work they did (especially the tile/coping guy!), and most finished their tasks Exactly to the posted schedule.
In terms of how long things took, work started with the dog, which started June 11, and we were filling the pool with water by August 12. In particular, i would like to just say that our Project Manager/Superintendent, Chris Barnes, was key to the good experience we had. Chris was great about keeping us informed to what was going on at all times, and he was also very responsive to any issues or questions that we had. In conclusion, as someone that was totally new to the pool building process, I would highly recommended Puryear based on my experience.

John came to our house for a remodel bid. Not only was he late, he Was incredibly rude, did not listen to what we wanted and ended the visit by saying "you won't hear back from me, we have deep pockets i don't chase clients" keep your deep pockets, we will take a 50K remodel elsewhere. I wish i could leave zero stars.

EDIT May 2021, pool is getting worse. Aqua bright peeling off in chunks. I had contacted EcoFinish about the product. They say it wasn't prepped correctly. I really wish Puryear would have had a civil sit down talk with me, owner Jason should have came out the second time he was asked instead of ignoring. If a business never asked for the small final payment it's because they know they F'd your pool up!
But when you call text and email how it's falling apart, they won't even be civil and talk about it, instead just call me a thief! I so wish I could have taken them to small claims court, and I would have except it started peeling after my statue of limitations.

Our pool was completed in March of 2021, from the first time we stepped foot into Puryear's office, they have been kind, professional, and listened to our wants and needs. Everyone from our designer, Brandon, to our project manager, Preston, the office staff, Alisa, and the service team have been amazing. They kept us informed and up to date every step of the way.
The quality of work you receive with Puryear Custom Pools is OUTSTANDING! I wouldn't change one thing about them or their process. Highly recommended to many friends and neighbors looking to build. You won't regret it! We absolutely LOVE our new pool! Beautiful, quality work at an affordable price. *****

Do not use, horrible customer service and no communication. Will give you the run around on repairs and then charge you even though repairs were not made. I sent a message direct to the owner, rather than resolve the problem he chose to block my number. Save your time, money and insanity, use any of the other fifty pool companies in the area!

Had an install of new pool equipment today by Dom and Will. I was highly impressed with their knowledge and professionalism. The install was fast, VERY well done, and the guys were lot of fun and full of great advice and information. After purchasing my equipment from Scott and have the install completed by Dom and Will, Puryear has earned my business for life! Thank you for all you do!

Terrible experience. I should have read these reviews prior, but I selected them because they were on the Good Contractors List. The good news is now I also know not to trust that list. Highlights from my pool remodel: Most expensive quote out of 4. Pool chemistry is super important for the first few weeks. I only knew this because another company made a big deal of it. Contractor John didn't address it at all.
When I asked him what the plan for after maintenance was he said that he would balance the chemicals for a few weeks. I have video of him walking into my backyard and dumping a gallon of startup in, then leaving within a minute. He did this once. Didn't check chemicals or address the "heavy scaling" that was going on at the moment. I have proof of that as well.
In a nutshell, after seeing that, I could tell that he just didn't care about taking care of my investment. When they didn't have acceptable coping (John admitted that it was "the bottom of the barrel") that we had agreed to, I went to stone yards that John provided to choose my own. When I chose silver mist coping he said that it was more expensive than the other color and would cost 500 more.
I said okay. The next day I thought how weird that he knew exactly how much more it would cost for my pool. So I called the stone yard and they told me it was the exact same price as the first material that I had already paid for. When I called John on his lie he folded pretty quickly. So unethical. I have text messages about that. It's horrible to feel like you are being tricked out of money and hard to trust anyone's intentions after they do this. Last, the worst is that there are plaster issues with my pool, big, visible problems.
I was complaining about them for over a month with no one addressing them. When I finally called the office to complain, after much back and forth, they offered to acid wash my pool. Acid washing is stripping the top layer off of your plaster. Obviously I don't want that to happen to my new plaster, especially not to correct a problem that they caused.
Even with providing much independent proof that this damages the plaster, their only response is that I should trust what they want to do because they are experts. Well, if they are experts then why didn't they get it right the first time? I think it's understandable that I don't trust them after the behavior that I've seen. Their warranty will be up before their "fix" causes me problems. Looong story short, they are refusing to do anything except for that, and the "Good Contractors" won't make them do anything but that. If you want to pay the most, for a pool with problems, then you can get a quote from them. I would look elsewhere.

We are very satisfied with the quality and construction of our pool but would not use them again because of lack of communication, responsiveness, planning and taking responsibility. Examples: I notified project manager a week ahead of our out of state trip in case we needed to make any decisions or plans only to be notified while I was gone that we needed to decide where to pour the pad for the pump and move the fence which had to be redone when we returned home; the electrician moved three circuits in our breaker box and did not tell us they had done so or label the breakers; two days after the electrical work our dryer didn't work so we called a repairman (which is how we found out about the moving of the circuits) and Puryear would not take any responsibility - would not cover an $82 service call even though I spent almost $60,000 on a pool; after completion of the pool, I sent a 14 page letter (very polite 2 page letter plus copies of text messages, etc) to the owner to which I received NO response. We obviously had several issues!

After reviewing and researching several companies, we chose Puryear to build an in ground pool at our newly purchased home. Although pricing and quality were the main factors in who we chose, ultimately it was the relational comfort that Puryear gave us that made our decision. From the start our experience was great. Derek (our salesperson) was professional and knowledgeable in helping us design our pool. Mickey (our contractor) kept us informed on each step of the building process.
He answered our many questions and followed up to validate we were happy with the result at each step of the process. Jefferson (our service agent) trained us on how to maintain our pool. Knowing that this was our first pool, he took extra time setting our expectations and confirming we understood. The experience from beginning to end went better than we could have ever expected. We would and do recommend Puryear Custom Pools to anyone who is looking to build a pool.

We decided to build a pool early in the year. We are first time pool owners so the decision was not taken lightly. We did our research and asked around for referrals. I reviewed Puryear's website and I like the fact that 1) they give you ballpark price ranges and 2) they give you an overview of the process. One of our friends also recommended Puryear.
We decided to have a consultation. Derek, our representative, was the best! He was very accommodating and explained all of the options. He designed a pool that maximized our yard and incorporated the features we wanted. We received a computer generated drawing of the pool from all angles. Derek provide documentation for the HOA approval and bank financing processes.
We were pleasantly surprised with the cost estimate. We called Other pool companies and they were more expensive. When construction started we were nervous, but our construction manager, Guy, kept us informed every day. Anytime we had a question, Guy responded promptly. The workmanship is beautiful. The crews did a phenomenal job. We could not be more pleased with the product and the overall experience.

Three items needed to be replaced in my Puryear pool at the same time. The pump, the heater and a control panel. They were Jandy equipment and had three year guaranteed. The pool was three 1/2 years old. Puryear pools refused to help me in this matter citing the equipment missed the warranty by 6 months. This was three items not one! It came to just under $5,000!
I am very unhappy with Puryear pools for installing equipment that didn't last long. The company kept blaming Jandy. Well, who bought their inferior equipment in the first place? Be prepared for a big bill after 3 1/2 years if you use Puryear Pools. Gaye Anderson

Puryear built our pool and has performed all the services since. They are dependable, professional, and provide great service. We are first time pool owners so have had lots of questions along the way including panicked texts late at night! John has always answered us quickly and provided us the information we needed. Always great communication and easy to do business with. I would highly recommend Puryear for all your pool needs!

Puryear completed our custom pool in mid-August and we truly cannot be happier! A huge thank you to Michele Drake for designing exactly what we wanted and another huge thank you to Charlie, our project manager, for making it come to life in our tiny backyard. From the dig to the pool school our questions were answered, our wishes were respected and the advice we received along the way was perfect.
There was no lack of communication between us and the Puryear folks. We literally are so happy with our pool and new backyard. Thank you so much to Puryear for building the outdoor oasis that we dreamed of!

If I could give this company 0 stars, I absolutely would. We recently bought a home with a pool that was built by Puryear, so we decided to use them for our maintenance. What a mistake. From the beginning, we have been given the run around. John came out for our initial meeting and told us that our heater and salt cell were not working that he would have someone come out to diagnose the problem.
He also explained to us that someone would come by once a week for pool maintenance, and we would be getting a quarterly cleaning of the filter. Well, after we were charged for the quarterly filter cleaning, we inquired about the shape of the filter and wanted to see exactly what was done. After multiple calls and multiple promises to email us the documentation, we STILL have not received a single thing.
We also asked for documentation for the "diagnosis" that they did (really doubt anyone even came out to do it), and have yet to receive anything about that either. But don't worry, they made sure to charge us for it. This company has the absolute worst customer service and communication that I have ever seen.

This pool company seemed so legit when we got going then the miscommunication between the people in the office and the people on the ground. Think they all need to take some kind of communication course. After our pool had some issues after completion we still have yet to here back if they even finished or did the work we asked. So our issue we asked to be taken care of we didn't know, we still don't know.
We signed up for the pool maintenance too and what a headache! The miscommunication is still happening, who the heck is in charge over there?! We are in the market for a new pool maintenance services.

Puryear built the pool that came with the house that I bought. I've used them for weekly/quarterly maintenance for about 6 months now. It's great to know that everything is taken care of and I know that they've been here because they leave a card documenting the chemical levels and what was done. Recently, I had a problem with the spa/pool heater (not working and leaking water).
I discovered it after-hours (of course) but called and left a message. John called me first thing the next morning and had someone on their way right then. By the time I got home from work that evening, everything was fixed! Excellent service-- I couldn't be happier!

We worked with John, we really liked his honesty and he provided great advice. Our job took 3 months (Mid Dec - Mid Mar) to complete which included some delays due to rain and cold weather. We had work completed on our existing pool - Plaster upgraded with Quartz/Pebble Finish, changed our pool pebble deck with a smooth overlay, waterfall work, extended patio, and added a gas fire pit.
Total job $25K. John and his team did a nice job on our remodel. John responded when contacted. Appreciated John's vision on our fire pit, it turned out much nicer than we expected. Our patio overlay spray turned out great - hoping the color does cool the deck as mentioned. With our upgrade we paid the money to set up our existing equipment to be operated by App - best thing ever.
I can now turn on my hot tub, filter, cleaner, all from my app. Didn't go all the way with being able to turn on my fire pit with my app though. John took before and after pictures with the company drone and later shared with me - which was super cool! With that said, one thing consistent throughout the process was the lack of communication. Having to initiate the communication to determine when tasks were scheduled to happen then follow up after each item completed in the process was annoying.
Perhaps a list of instructions upon the job completion could be left at the job site or perhaps emailed to the owner. In addition, sign off by the project lead indicating the work was inspected and they signed off on the work. I felt as if when we brought up concerns on items it was the first John was hearing of it which was concerning, that was my perception anyways.
When re-filling the pool the work crew turned on the water and left it running - thank goodness we weren't out of town, had a late meeting, etc; Just came home and water was running. We complained of the darker ring in the middle of our pool by the drain a couple times after the replaster, not resolved - I mean what can you do now? We had some re-work on the waterfall as the water didn't cascade as I would expect, took a couple visits but got resolved.
When the one guy came to spray the deck, he taped up all the outside windows, back door, the day before. Okay - I have dogs and they use the backyard - it was just an inconvenience that I didn't know about until it happened. After the deck was sprayed - again - how long can we not walk on it? Any special instructions? Nothing. Again inconvenient. Listen, I'm enjoying our backyard improvements - just improve the information exchange with the customer. A timeline, expectations, sign off etc; the customer shouldn't chase the information.

This is my 3 home and my 3rd pool I've built. This company is the absolute worse company I've ever dealt with. They do not honor their warranty work. They will no return telephone calls or emails. Ive even went to their office but that was filled with false promises. I hope someone reads this and think again about hiring them. Trying going else where. If you choose them. Good luck. You'll need it

My pool lights were not working so I called Puryear. The nice person who answered the phone transferred me to the service dept. I explained to the woman who answered my light problem. She suggested before we come out maybe one of the techs could help me over the phone. Short while later a tech called and had me find and reset the light plug. All fixed, thank you!

Alex with Puryear Pools is fantastic to work with! He is very detailed and worked extremely hard at meeting our budget for our pool. He was very thorough and assisted in our choices for designing our pool. We received several pool estimates and it was because of Alex that we went with Puryear. Thanks. Alexander's

As soon as the contract was signed and the first one-third payment was made working with Puryear Custom Pools has been nothing but a struggle to get this company to do what is in the contract. They currently have 90% of our money and have threatened to place the project on hold because we expressed dissatisfaction with workmanship product being used.

I'm normally not one to leave reviews on here but with the costs involved with most projects I felt the need to inform others before they consider doing business with Puryear. I called them for a pool and pergula build the lady stated that it would be around 1 week before someone could come out to the house this was pretty much standard across the board.
