Carpet comes in many styles, including plush, Saxony, Berber, textured and frieze. I've decided to look around on Yelp and google for a flooring company in Chicago and came across ElmWood Flooring, my experience with them was good from the start, they came out took about 15-20 mins to review everything and talk with me about my flooring I wanted redone, little did I know my floors were beyond repair and couldn't be sanded, so their professional advice was to replace them.
I felt this was going to turn into a big project and cost me a lot of money, but after finding out they have financing options and I was able to make monthly payments, I decided to move forward and have them do it. After 8 days of work with 2 of them removing my old flooring, I was very impressed with the start to finish, my new flooring looks amazing and I am happy I went with this company. I will be hiring them again when I need other things done at my home, next is my bathroom.

I called to schedule a "free estimate" for work I needed done throughout my home like refinishing floors, painting, tile work etc.to prepare it to put on the market. After paying a $50 fee for the estimate labeled as a travel fee (which initially I was fine with because they would apply it toward the cost of the work) and spending an hour discussing what I wanted, I had to follow-up and chase down the estimate (1st warning sign)!
When I finally received it it was missing much of what we had discussed (2nd sign). When I contacted them to get some clarification on the missing items (several times), the manager John's rebuffed with "we do not feel like your project is a good fit for your company".This was after several of his responses to my inquiries were met with condescending rebuttals.
And after all of this I simply asked for my fee back since I never got a full estimate for the work. I did not sign up for all of this extra stress. I just wanted a good company to do the work I needed in a timely professional manner. Of course my request for my $50 fee refunded was denied. I looked at the reviews before I contacted them and my experience does not match this AT ALL!
I am not sure if my experience is indicative of a racial or gender bias they hold ( for me as a Black woman), and I hope it is not but fear that it is. However, I would I NOT recommend this company to anyone! Especially not members of minoritized communities.

Where to start. Our family had enough of the old original flooring in our home with and all the squeaking it made, we called and had someone from elmwood come out to our home., after they reviewed our issues, we went with the option to replace our flooring with new floors., elmwood flooring gave us a fair price and the warranty was by far the best we found with any flooring installation company out there.
They were on-time, clean and very professional., and with being able to be in and out with a solid week, we thought it would had to take more time, but they gave us a window of 5 to 7 days from start to finish, and we were extremely happy that they got it done in a shorter amount of time, seeing we had to stay by a family member while our home was under construction.
The supervisor called us daily to keep us updated on the progress, we also came to find out that elmwood flooring was not just a flooring company but they also do all types of construction work. So I was happy to find out about this, and we will be calling on them to handle other home projects that we will be needing done., seeing our home is a very old Victorian style house.
Over all I would highly recommend anyone looking for quality to call on this company to have their flooring done. Everything turned out beautifully and new flooring system was installed, sanded and refinished perfectly., cant say anything more besides how much our whole family and friends who stop by all love our new quiet squeak free floors. Thanks to ElmWood Flooring! We Highly Recommend them to all needing work done.

We reached out to this company because we liked what we read online about their products and warranty programs, after having a sales rep out to our home, we hired them to do our painting, bathroom and flooring work., and some other work., but me and my wife were both amazed on how professional and clean they kept our home during the construction phase, after a final inspection of the work we were blow away by the Quality of craftsmanship they did with putting track lighting in our kitchen area around the ceiling., hands down ElmWood Flooring Construction Co. is by far the best at what they do.
We highly recommend Elmwood company to our friends and family, and too you also if you don't want to worry about getting cheap looking work done in your home. Definitely a 5 Star company by far

Hi All.... We called ElmWood Flooring Co. in Illinois and had one of their professional estimators stop by, they reviewed everything we were looking to have done, and were very knowledgeable and gave us great idea's and answered all our questions and then some. Within less than 24 hours, we received their email proposal, terms, and payment options, after deciding to pull the trigger to hire ElmWood and have the work done. ElmWood Installed the flooring, throughout our home, they did a wonderful job with everything., me and my family loved the craftsmanship, all of the workers are professionals that have an eye for details.
This was a great investment and well worth the money we spent., and has brought more value to our home, seeing when we go to sell, we will be able to roll in the cost of the updates, new floors makes our home look that much newer and more modern and valuable. Thanks to ElmWood, we will be calling them back to remodel our Kitchen and update our bathrooms., seeing they do everything construction wise.
We Highly recommend ElmWood, definitely a company you can trust not only to do a great job, but also to be worry free while they are in your home. They all respected our home, and this brought my wife joy, knowing we could trust them within our house.
A+ Thank you ElmWood

I recently called around for a good flooring company I came across these guys. They set up a time and date to have somebody come out gave a lot of good information. I decided to go with ElmWood Flooring to have them do the construction I needed done. The reason I picked this company was their great service warranties. I would highly recommend ElmWood Flooring construction company to anyone that's looking to have their project done right by professionals!

I was shopping around on line for a Flooring construction company that can handle multiple projects., I came across ElmWood Flooring construction company. After reaching out to them they came out and gave me what I considered to be a fair and honest price, for the work I was wanting to be done.after signing a contract with them, they came out on the dates we agreed on, and it only took them five days to complete the work, which they estimated to be around that timeframe, overall I would have to say they are true professionals when it comes to their trade with doing an outstanding job for us and would recommend them to anyone, for anything that they do.

ElmWood Flooring company, their employees, and work is top-notch., I hired ElmWood to fix my flooring and redo my Condo unit with a new kitchen and bathroom redo, and they did an outstanding job with the craftsmanship, not only fixing my flooring but sharing tips on how to take care of them properly. I would highly recommend ElmWood Flooring Construction for anything construction/flooring wise, they were on-time, friendly and cleaned up before during and after they finished., my place was treated as if they were working on their own home. I saw that they took pride in the work and it shows in the end on how things turned out.

This company took forever to return my call for a quote and then was very rude to me on the phone. The guy basically said I lied about leaving a voicemail and then hung up on me. It doesn't look like I can comment on the comment so I'm adding here. not a fake review. I never said it was in 2019. Apparently my review didn't post and when I logged in it was still saved so I released it. If you accused me of lying about leaving a voicemail of course you wouldn't admit I called and that my call was logged.

*Example of an email from them to me is included, * It makes me really sad to have to write this, because I love supporting small businesses. This company has a pattern of threatening lawsuits for bad reviews (as stated in an earlier review, and then stated to me via email), so I'll stick with the facts and write what I can prove. The work consisted of cutting a window hole in a wall, removing old stair railings, removing two curtain rods and replacing them with new ones, and removing two pieces of wall, about a foot each.
In total, I paid just over $7,000. After the work was "finished", I met the painters (different company) at the house. They said that for the most part, the wall was in fine condition to prep and paint, however, the section where they removed pieces of wall still had tape on it, and areas with holes. The painters told me that the wall still had a lot of work that needed to be done, and that I should reach back out to the construction company and make sure they finish it according to my contract.
I emailed them, and that's where things took a sudden turn downward. After emailing them, John from Elmwood emailed me back, saying that the painters I hired were lazy and didn't want to do the work, and that I should read my contract, because they never stated that the wall would be "paint ready". I emailed back that I wasn't expecting it paint ready, only to be in the condition that they left the rest of the walls.
After emailing me back again, and seeming like he was lecturing me on the fact that I didn't know what I was talking about, and calling me a penny pincher in so many words, they acknowledged, based on a photo I had to provide, that was wall was in fact NOT done. I emailed back, asking why they couldn't have admitted that in the first place, instead of sending me a bunch of defensive emails.
They replied back that they don't care how much money I have to spend on projects, and that they turn down millions of dollars because of "difficult" customers. They then stated that after Darren came back to fix the wall, they were "done with me". All because I asked them to complete the work I had already paid them to do. That, I guess, made me a difficult customer. After, my painters said that Darren completed the job with "quick dry mud", and according to them it was done poorly, and they had to re-do it, costing an additional $350.
I never brought this up with Elmwood, because I feared they would fight me on it, and the stress wasn't worth it. Fast forward to the day we moved in. I went to hang the curtains in our master bedroom, on the newly installed rod by Elmwood. Keep in mind, Elmwood told me the size of rod to buy, and I confirmed the type of rod in an email. When I tried to hang the curtains, I realized that the brackets were in the wrong location, making it so that there was over a foot of uncovered window on either side.
I emailed them, with a photo, and said that since they expressed that they were "done with me", it makes sense for them to refund the $170 I paid to have it installed, so that I can have it re-done. They emailed back and said that the painter must have moved the bracket, and that it voided the warranty, and that they could send someone to fix it, but that they would charge me again.
I looped my painter directly into the conversation, and the painter replied to Elmwood, saying that they didn't touch the brackets. It would have made no sense for the painters to move the brackets, path the holes in the wall, re-install them incorrectly, and then continue painting. I asked if they had proof that the painters moved it, and Steve replied saying "how would I have proof of that?" and then called me pathetic for suggesting that Darren lied. Then, said "John will reach out next week". John never reached out.
With no protection on the windows, I hired someone else to fix the curtain rod, and they did so with ease, and no issues whatsoever. I then decided to file a complaint with the BBB, because I couldn't stomach working directly with Elmwood anymore. We went back and fourth for a bit, and Elmwood continued to change their defense. First, the painters moved it. Then, they said they couldn't install it correctly because of a metal lining around my window, and third, that they couldn't install it properly because they didn't know in advance what kind of rod I was going to hang.
I have proof that all of that is incorrect - in writing, but after a certain mount of back and fourth, the BBB closes the case, acknowledging that the business did not satisfy the customer. I emailed Elmwood directly one more time, and asked them to do the right thing. They said, that I gave them no opportunity to fix it, and that it would have cost $145 to do so according to my contract.
I paid $170 to hang the rod, and it would have been $145 to have them fix it (as they told me later). They then said that if I left a review, I'd be hearing from their attorney.

My name is Leo, I've been searching around and came across several companies to replace all the floors in my house. I had interview and receive proposals and quotes from multiple companies and asked all the questions I thought of. Out of the several companies I had contacted, one company stood out from the others. ElmWood's Flooring was able to answer all my questions, told me what I was looking for and wanted to hear, they offered me a 50 year warranty on my floors and had the best price on the flooring price., They also were not too expensive and were not the lowest either, but definitely money well spent, They were in the middle. Elmwood flooring also provided me a construction window time frame that worked around my schedule. Elmwood flooring employees were all professionals and took pride in their work from what I saw., They also put me as a customer first and were able to work around the need of mine. I highly recommend Elmwood Flooring to anyone who needs to replace their floors. Mine turned out beautifully done.

ElmWood Flooring was a terrific find (thanks, fellow Yelpers). My hardwood floor was water damaged. ElmWood did a great job fixing the floor. In addition, I really appreciated the responsiveness and great communication from the company. I've worked with several contractors where that wasn't the case, and it can be very frustrating. I highly recommend ElmWood for your floor needs.

I just bought my first Condo in Chicago, and I was looking for a good contractor, I came across Elmwood and other companies via Google. I had called several companies and of the three estimates I was provided, Elmwood Flooring gave me the most accurate estimates proposal and at a fair price. The professional that came out were very helpful and told me step by step on how the process would be carried out.
In addition they answered any and all questions that I had as well, and truly know everything there is to know about flooring and construction work. Thank you Elmwood. Great company. Great workers. Overall, I would most definitely rate the services that I received five out of five stars. and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a great flooring company.

I was very impressed with the quality of services that ElmWood Flooring provided to my friends. All of their employees conduct themselves quite professionally and were very attentive to detail. I would like to recommend to anyone that wants their floors to look GREAT to consider a call to ElmWood Flooring. I must also mention that they travel to all the surrounding areas around Chicago and the suburbs. Their initial hands down consultation will blow you away.

I really don't like writing negative reviews, but I really have no choice. I would like to add that Darren from Elmwood sent an email threatening a "slander"lawsuit against me based on my last review so I will just state agreed upon facts and and my thoughts and feelings about the proceedings. I contracted Elmwood Flooring to repair my 100 year old floor in my bar and install a hardwood floor.
I requested due to time and expense a full replacement of the existing material would not be possible, but I did want the soft spots in the floor fixed. I also had him sand stain and lacquer the bar. Days before the install, I was contacted about a better laminate floor that would cost a little more. I agreed and we signed new contract for this material.
The floor was installed and other work was performed. I was happy with the initial results and wrote a positive recommendation upon completion, but the floor quickly started to wear and get holes due to the fact that the soft spots and holes were not repaired, just floored over. When I contacted the company, Darren came out to look at the floor and emailed me a reply that he could repair the holes in the new floor, but there would be a charge because the damage was "caused by customers and employees that didn't know how to care for the floor" and not covered in the "warranty." When I initially contacted Elmwood, I stated that I wanted a commercial grade floor, meaning a floor that stands up to heavy foot traffic.
After a month the floor looked like it had seen better days. I asked for soft spots to be repaired, they were not. He claims that he installed support beams in my floor, but he actually installed 2 floor jacks to brace the floor where it was sagging. I could have done that, I wanted the support beams fixed. It was suggested in the email that I received from Elmwood that I should raise my review to 2-3 stars, he felt that since he did do a good job sanding and moving the bar, it warranted at least that.
I disagree. The overall experience soured me on their company and I feel the 1 star was earned based on what appears is a lack of knowledge about the products the deal with and unwillingness to stand behind them. The floor was installed in October 2013 and I am having it replaced in August of 2015, with hardwood for $4,000 less than Elmwood charged for the flooring installation and materials portion of the job. That's less than 2 years.
During the process with the new company, the installer stated that it would have been easy and inexpensive for an underlayment to be placed over the existing tile layers to repair the soft spots and level the floor, before the new floor was installed.

I used ElmWood flooring to remodel the floors in my condo just this last year. The condo was in a great location, but was a "fixer upper". The flooring was old and appeared to have water damage, as well as in a state of general disrepair. I was referred to ElmWood Flooring by a friend and was not at all disappointed. I told the staff there that I preferred hardwood floors, and that my condo association had specific requirements the types of materials and measurements that were needed.
As I am not in construction or carpentry, I had no idea what my condo association was actually talking about. The staff at ElmWood Flooring however, did. Not only were they able to meet the specifications required by my condo board, but they were quick, easy, inexpensive, and still went above and beyond any and all of my expectations. They used excellent materials, terrific craftsmanship, and were able to work out a reasonable rate with me.
There staff were all curious, kind, and professional, and answered any and all concerns that I had. Given that this was my first condo, I had quite a number of questions, and ElmWood Flooring helped guid me through the process and what I would need to do and address, from start to finish. I am thankful to my friend who referred me to ElmWood Flooring, and especially appreciative to ElmWood Flooring themselves. I have since recommended ElmWood Flooring to several other friends, all of whom have had the same great results.

Elmwood flooring was one of 3 different company's that we called on, and the estimate we received from elmwood was fair, so we decided to hire them for our home repair project based on their written warranty and professionalism. They were helpful on time and very professional when it came to dealing with us, even though we were not home during the work when it was done, we felt very comfortable with handing our key to our home to the supervising manager and when returning back to see the final work that was done, my wife and I were very pleased with the way our floors turned out. I would highly recommend using this company for your project and I would hire again if we ever need work done in our home in the future. Johnny W.

I recently moved from the suburbs back to the city and into a wonderful place. I was referred to ElmWood Flooring by a co-worker to do some repair at my new place. I wasn't sure of what to expect but after a free consultation and affordable quote that was given to me, I was already interested. I can't stress enough about how happy I was to have went with ElmWood Flooring to do my repairs.
The floor in my new place looks great and brand new. It only took two days because some of the wood needed to be replaced. The entire project was very affordable and the service was top class and professional, I'm very satisfied.

My family and I just bought a new home in the suburbs west of Chicago, IL and the floors in the home needed to be redone, I came across the Elmwood Flooring company and like the fact that they had very professional people working for them, the fact that I got new floors without having to have the old floors replaced saved us thousands of dollars! We were very pleased with the work done at our new home and would highly recommend this flooring company for any project you may have that you want done by professionals that care about their customers. Thank you ElmWood - 'We love our floors'! Al D.

In my search for a company that could focus on replacing 10 year old carpet in a small bedroom of an 800sq ft condo, I wanted to give the work to a local owned business. In addition to this work, there was other work that needed to be done. ElmWood came out, measured and we discussed what additional work they could do in addition to the carpet. I was very excited.
A quote then came back for a smidge over $2,000 for just the bedroom carpet and padding. Yes, $2k. Outrageous. I have carpeted a house for that. I received a second quote through a competitor which was less than half that and ElmWood seemed annoyed. They indicated they could not go below $1,200k, I said ok and would still like to move forward. They then asked me to forward the second quote to them which I did.
During this time I had a phone conversation as I was perplexed that they were not responding via email after I advised that the price was too high. I asked if they did not want the business as the job was too small and they did not have much to say. They indicated they would send me a contract to sign and of course I received nothing. I sent one follow-up email (replied to already existing chain of emails), no response. Sent a second one no response.
This is over the course of one month. Then when I sent an angry email stating how shocked I was at the lack of any customer service and I got a response right away. Not a good one, but finally a response. Bottom line, too expensive and not dependable. I also believe based on where I lived they up charged me. So sad as I really like to give my business to local business owners and not big box stores.

I have used ElmWood Flooring some years back. My auntie's garage was not exactly falling apart, the structure was sound but aesthetics, not so much. ElmWood Flooring came out to see us on the weekend and took care of the hardwood siding for us. Easy, cheap, fast and effective. We had hardwood flooring in most of the house, which the ElmWood Flooring guys wanted to refurbish but we did not have money at the time - money was tight, a s it was middle of recession - 2008 or 2009, I can't be sure at the moment.
We politely declined, and the guys didn't push the subject. Instead, they gave us some free advice on how to care for the wood floors in the house (house is in the residential neighborhood part of Portage Park area of Chicago and as the rest of the houses around is closed to 100 years now) to prevent further damage and refresh the look of the floors. AS a matter of fact, they had a bottle of a very good cleaning agent, so they gave it to us for free and got a good tip in exchange.
I didn't get the chance to work with them afterwards but the little job they did for us was very satisfactory, so I have no complaints. I looked up their website and see they are still around, so good for them!

If you need wood flooring services in Chicago, IL and suburbs around, I definitely recommend Darren and ElmWood Flooring - it is the nicest flooring contractor I ever met! I actually used him not for hardwood floors but for removing my old disgusting carpeting - he and his team did it real quick, cleaned up after themselves and fixed a shingle on my garage while they were at it - great deal, great service, great flooring company! Thumbs up from me!
