This six week-long journey ended today with success! Our water heater went off, and Mike came and showed us how to relight the pilot, no charge. That was the harbinger of things to come--2 weeks later it switched off again. Kyle replaced one part, and we all thought that would do it. It didn't. I got very good at relighting the pilot, as this became a daily habit while the folks at PP hunted down the issue.
They replaced the second main part--no luck. Mike came back and puzzled and puzzled. He found the dipstick yesterday, all cracked. They went to Denver to get that part and installed it today. Mike and his assistant sat out in the truck while they waited to see what happened--and it still shut itself off. Amazing patience no $%
