Deck Staining
Report
When applying the Deck Stain, begin with a thin coat, slowly applying over the surface of two to three boards and then move on to the next section. A good rule of thumb is two thin coats is better than one. Using two thin coats ensures that the surface is completely soaking up the product and will provide a lasting effect.

AWFUL service at this location in West U. I waited over 30 minutes to have my paint samples. Guy was so rude and kept finding every excuse not to process my invoice. I will never go back to this place. Store was completely empty which is the irony. I would understand if the place was packed with customers. Entire staff is rune, does not care about customers and prefers to answer endless phone calls rather than serving customers.

I am trying to organize a residential project in Houston from NYC and needed to order paint over the phone to be picked up by a contractor. I spoke with Michael who was the epitome of a professional and a gentleman. He helped me create the order and made helpful suggestions along the way recommending qualities etc. that would be more effective and save money where possible. Could not have had a better experience.

The wallpaper appointment was amazing. She got me do excited at wallpaper possibilities. Great selection. She worked to pull so many great options. Make an appointment for best practice. Also, its low stress sales, meaning no pressure. Paint experience also was low stress and pressure. Nice selection. Got great advice. Prices reasonable.

Just had a similar experience to the previous reviewer. Went to look at wallpaper and was asked by the woman in the wallpaper area if we had an appointment. When we replied apologetically that we did not, she rolled her eyes, signed loudly and walked away. I understand that she is busy, but all she has to say is, "I'd love to help you. Let's make an appointment to meet soon so I can give you my attention." I would have been happy to come back if she hadn't been so rude. Instead, I drove a mile down the road and ordered elsewhere.
This review does not pertain to the paint section employees--they seemed friendly and helpful and I would buy paint from there. I suggest posting a sign on the door that says "Wallpaper by appointment only" to avoid these situations in the future.

As a professional wallpaper installer, I have been sending my clients to Dorota for more than 15 years. My clients love her! She truly knows what's in all the selection books, she is intuitive as to the client's taste, and she can quickly zero in on the best books for them to look through. I tell my clients to call ahead and tell Dorota what they are looking for, and when they get to the store, she will have a stack of books waiting for them, with specific pages marked.
This saves them from sloshing through 50 books of flowers and butterflies, if what they want is texture or a geometric. She will even let them take books home, or order samples for them, so they can see their selections in their home setting. Dorota's prices on most papers are below retail. And she can get European papers, and even those "designer" papers that are "exclusive to the trade." So if my clients see something on HOUZZ or Pintrest that is seductively beautiful but not available to individual homeowners, Dorota can probably get it for them. Interior designers know this and shop with her, too.
She knows the wallpaper lingo re double and single rolls, Euro and American rolls, bolts, square feet, by-the-yard, pattern repeat, drop match, measuring for murals, etc., so customers don't end up buying too much or too little paper. And she doesn't sell papers that are poor or dubious quailty. (Did I mention I hate paper-backed vinyls?
Do a Search on my blog (below). And if a particular pattern or manufacturer has history of defects or problems, she keeps track of that. I also like that she knows all the vendors, so she learns of new patterns or products, and can get help if there is a problem. And, if there is a problem (goods damaged in shipping, defects, I-thought-I-wanted-pink-elephants-but-now-I-want-purple-pansies-so-can-this-wallpaper-be-returned?), she will take care of all that with no hassles for the customer.
And she checks every order to be sure it's the correct pattern, right color, all the same run, etc. That's a benefit of buying local. :) Dorota is also a color consultant, and has a Master's Degree in Fine Arts (from Warsaw - how cool is that?!), so my clients can get their wall paint coordinated with their wallpaper, drapes, bedding, etc. Tip: Best to make an appointment.
A phone call is best, because she can be swamped by e-mails. Julie Young The Wallpaper Lady (713) 528-5614 P.O. Southwest Paint is awesome. The service is fast and professional and all of the employees are friendly. On several occasions over the course of our renovation they patiently answered all of our questions, no matter how absurd. When we had problems picking a color, they listened to our description and helped us chose exactly what we were looking for (after letting us borrow their huge color fans).
They even "upsold" us to Aura paint for that color to ensure that it came out the way we wanted, and then discounted the price to match the Regal we used everywhere else. I have nothing but good things to say about this paint store, and I will gladly come back in the future.
