Philpaint was originally founded in 1986 by Brian Phillips under the name Phillips Exterior Cleaning. At the time Brian supplemented his income as a free-lance writer by performing pressure washing, gutter cleaning, and window washing services. The business was operated on a part-time basis out of a spare bedroom in his apartment.
