After Superstorm Sandy hit the East Coast, I read an article about a company using mobile solar generators to provide portable, off-grid power to storm victims. This inspired me to think about designing my own solar generator for off-grid power here in the Pacific Northwest. I knew from my experience as a solar design consultant at Sunergy Systems in Seattle that-despite what it might seem-solar power works here.
I began to think of all the needs it could fill: disaster relief, festivals, weddings, athletic events, construction sites, educational facilities, agricultural applications. It's a quiet, sleek, clean alternative to loud, fuel-guzzling generators and a great way to avoid the hassle and expense of tying into the electrical grid.
