SR Remodeling specializes in remodeling residential homes, and carries that same level of craftsmanship and attention to detail into our Commercial renovations. Our light-commercial work involves mostly build-outs versus ground-up, all new construction. We are typically more cost-effective than the big construction contractors, and the finish is better.
Perhaps you've noticed the substandard carpentry in some restaurants when dining out? We are used to doing fine work in peoples' homes and we carry that philosophy into our commercial remodeling jobs. Most big contractors run so many workers through the project that the finished product lacks that fine finish and attention to details that S&R remodeling jobs have.

Decks built from treated materials are the least expensive. They can be painted or stained to your liking, as long as you first let them weather for one year. Depending on how you paint or stain your deck, the right color can make the finish look amazing. Treated decking shrinks after install so we install the boards tightly.

This company has provided the upmost remarkable service. My husband and I needed our kitchen re-done and we had a previous contractor commit, who bailed last minute. This team swooped in and gave us a great quote and was honest about how much it would cost and also that it may not be quick due to materials being hard to obtain. That said, they prioritized our project and completed it with no issues. Overall, we are very happy with the work!

I met with owner Scott on June 4 to get an estimate for a kitchen remodel. He was friendly and I enjoyed the meeting. But that's where the good experience ended. It is now Aug 3 and I still don't have an estimate. After multiple calls and emails at the beginning of July trying to get an update, I finally got a call back and was told he was very busy and please can he have another week. Sure. No problem.but It's been weeks since then and not one more contact. This is not how professional conduct business.

We called asking for an estimate told them where we were located and it was not an issue. They sent a nice brochure and everything was good. The first sign of trouble was a reschedule not a big deal but it pushed us back a week. Then as we waited for them to show up they didn't show. I called the estimator picked up and asked if I received his email, which I hadn't, and then told me we were out of their area of service.
This is where you read the first line again and realize the issue. They didn't call to tell us and we didn't receive the email. This interaction leaves me with the feeling that they don't pay attention. A lot of this is forgivable but not forgettable and because of this interaction, I would not recommend them to anyone.

S & R Remodeling remodeled our basement. The work completed was good. I'll say that first. No complaint about what was done. However, the work took forever. I sat around waiting for someone to show up numerous days and nobody came. They were at our house a total of 12 days and it took 4 months. The job was also delayed awhile because our initial check was misplaced.
The other thing to keep in mind before you hire them is that there is no attention to detail. You have to direct them along the whole time. Nothing in the bid for staining wood or finishing things up nicely. He underestimated most things in the bid. Lastly, the owner, Scott Nyland, was totally rude to me. He apparently didn't know my first name and referred to me as "the missus".
That really burned me. When I was upset for sitting around waiting for his workers day after day, he ended up not wanting to talk to me and would only talk to my husband. Scott's work is fine, but I have no idea how his business continues to run. Poorly run. He didn't send the last bill out until I reminded him that he hadn't sent it to us.
Then of course when the payment didn't get there as fast as he wanted it, he was very good about asking for it. He promised he would make up to us his faults and delays, but he offered nothing.

We had a very poor experience with S&R when we had them do work throughout our house over a year ago (upstairs and downstairs bathroom, kitchen, painting, new deck on our balcony). We were so frustrated, that I wanted to take time to cool off before writing a review, in order to be objective. They started the work 3 months after the time we'd agreed to.
It was obvious that we were pushed aside, before and during the work for projects Scott deemed more important. We would get no notice that workers were going to show up, much less the area they'd be working in, causing us to scramble and shift things around each time. One fun experience was that they wanted to disconnect our upstairs toilet, before connecting the downstairs toilet, which would've left us with no bathrooms, and my husband works from home.
This went against our specific agreement. When they redid our deck, they failed to drill holes before driving in the screws, cracking the wood on more than half the rails. The person who tiled our bathroom was clearly a beginner, the grout lines are wildly uneven, the tiles are not level, and 2 tiles near the border had fallen out within a month. Scott had so little idea of what was going on in our house that he had things done in the wrong order, and then blamed us.
This resulted in damage to a light fixture, and instead of trying to rectify the situation, he rudely asked "what do you want me to do about it." One morning I woke up to hear, "where are we supposed to put up this wall?" It was supposed to be a doorway, and I shudder to think what would've happened if we had not been present. Their painting was so poor it looks like a diy-ers first effort.
They had also promised to fill in nail holes, which was not done, and when we asked them to fix it, they patched but didn't paint over the patching. so now we have that over the paint. We actually really liked a lot of the workers, who were nice guys- it just seemed like they were set up to fail- poor instructions, little training and all the wrong tools.
From what we heard from them, Scott was also weeks behind in paying them. We stopped S&R before the work was completed, and instead used Genesis Painting (5 starts) and brought someone else in for the tiling, and we were very glad we did. They charged us twice for some materials, so look over your bill carefully, and have any changes made in writing.

We had two different jobs done on our house by Scott and the boys at S&R. A complete bathroom remodel ripped down to the studs. They are incredibly professional and the craftsmanship was top notch! We also had a new roof put on the house. They replaced plywood where it was rotted and had an ant problem exterminated. No cutting corners with this company, they let us know everything! Everything was done in a timely fashion and were in contact the whole time. I would highly recommend this company!

I manage the building for the company I work for, Family Service Madison. It is important to me to have someone I trust to call when we have a building issues or we are having improvements made. Being a non profit, we are very careful with our money. S & R Remodeling has good prices and they are always helpful with ideas. I appreciate the professionalism and the communication. Julie

Scott and his crew did a GREAT job for us remodeling an unfinished lower level. This included adding in a kitchenette. He was dependable, his price was great and his people did excellent work. We trusted him completely and he came through completely. If we had questions, he was quick to respond and the few surprises that came up (and that is not uncommon in remodeling situations), we easily negotiated solutions. He was a very easy going pleasant person to work with.

If there is one thing I learned while starting a new business, it's the importance of quality vendors and the relationships you build with those vendors. Being new to the construction process, I needed a contractor that could help me wade through the waters of uncertainty. S&R Remodeling did just that!

I had S&R Remodeling help me with several projects. They installed a new roof and painted the entire interior of my home. Each job was done after 2 days and no mess was left behind. No nails in my yard or paint specs on my carpet. I felt very comfortable with each of the staff, they were very knowledgeable and friendly.

We had an excellent experience with SR Remodeling last fall when we had a small guesthouse remodeled. This included, drywall, floors, complete bathroom, and kitchen area. Scott was always available, and kept us up to date on all aspects of the project. The SR team did an excellent job and they were a pleasure to have working for us. They always cleaned up completely and were very knowledgeable and professional.
We are very happy with the job they did and plan to work with them again in the future. You can count on Scott being honest and straightforward. I can't recommend them highly enough!

When thinking about remodeling our kitchen, we really wanted a contractor who would get in and get the job done. We are a family of four with two children and living without a kitchen was a bit daunting. Our project required a total removal of cabinets, appliances and flooring in addition to painting and re-carpeting our family room.

I have operated housing and fitness businesses in downtown Madison for more than 20 years. During that time we have completed nearly 50 housing renovation projects along with the construction of two fitness centers and two restaurants. During this period of time we have looked to Scott Nyland and S&R Remodeling on numerous occassions.
