Water heaters are essential plumbing appliances for many homes and properties in the Chula Vista area. As one of the most used appliances, they are prone to developing and exhibiting signs of failure over time. The following are some of the most common problems that can be observed with water heaters.
Keep in mind that water temperature and corrosion can also affect tankless models, which BPI also services and installs. Perhaps the most common problems that we face with regards to water tank heaters are with the temperature. These issues can range from the water being too hot or too cold, or the water tank being inconsistent with its performance.

We were in need of replacing parts on our water heater, we searched multiple places on Yelp and had minimal luck finding someone reasonably priced and available. We were referred to BPI by the water heater manufacturer and gave them a call. I was instantly impressed w their service, they were ready to help us out. We originally scheduled for service from 3-5p and I got a call at about 1p saying they were able to come out even earlier which was great news to me! Jesse and his teammate got the job done quickly and we now have hot water!
I was super impressed w their productivity, professionalism and the helpful information they gave us! We will continue as customers for any maintenance going forward and are so relieved we found them!

Julio was professional on his work, he did all by himself. He changed the main shut off valve that service our house, plus installed natural gas trap, and expansion tank to protect the water heater from pressure. Julio was very efficient, respectful, and friendly. Very professional in his work. Thank you. Services: Shower repair, Plumbing pipe repair

My kiddo - under one - needs a bathtub! The drain clogged. BPI booked with one call, showed up on time and in under an hour they had unclogged the tub. It was a very deep clog. The tech knew how to fix it and tested it multiple times to ensure it truly cleared. Clean and fast. Very friendly! Great job BPI! No gimmicks- they got it done at an affordable price!

We had a water line leak under the house. Al from BPI Plumbing arrived timely. He quickly identified the area of concern and completed repairs within the time estimated. Al was able to further identify opportunities to avoid additional issues and implemented a design change to correct an flaw in how the piping was routed. Five thumbs up for Service, Quality and Price. Thanks BPI!

BPI was hired by First Residential HOA to fix a broken pipe in the Antigua neighborhood of Eastlake in Chula Vista. For the past 7 days they have turned the water off to over 70 families everyday, EVERYDAY they failed to turn the water off or back on at the times they said they would. This lead to NO water in the evenings, throughout the night and in the mornings, even before 7a, No water to shower for work, doctor appointments etc. They even claimed that the pipe was fixed and water was restored only to find out that the poor quality of work caused the pipe to burst again.

A friend recommended BPI when we had a plumbing emergency with our kitchen faucet. They sent out Enrique right away. He was friendly, effective, and communicated our situation clearly. We asked him to come back to fix another non-critical issue. He did a great, efficient job on both projects. We had a second emergency within the same month - this time involving our tenant's water heater! BPI came to our rescue once again. They sent another gentleman, who was equally efficient and friendly with us and our tenants. BPI is our new, favored plumbing resource! Thank you!

I am absolutely Appalled by the lack of integrity from BPI Plumbing in Chula Vista. First of all, they are horrible I returning calls. They manager did not provide a receipt upon payment, when they promised it. I Asked for an itemized receipt because the chargers were much higher than estimated. The installation was not done appropriately. I called on 7/28 to complain about both issues and I was informed that they were coming today from 8 to 10:00 a.m.
This was the soonest appointment, so we waited, and waited. I took the morning off work-and they did not show up or call! Furthermore, I just called 15 minutes ago since I gave them a 20 minute, 3rd chance to come through and there was no answer. I went directly to voicemail. I still never got a recept. Shady enough? I guess the Better Business Bureau is next. Signed Cecilia Cazares, Chula Vista, Ca

Called BPI plumbing on a referral from another plumber. I needed someone that was willing to work on my mobile home that has stupid Quest pipe (gray pipe). My hot water pipe under the kitchen sink cracked on Christmas morning. So, the next day I called BPI and they said they could do it, and said they'd have someone out in an hour. Two hours later I called them back to see where the guy was, and just then he pulled up to my house.
Two guys came in and when my husband explained our problem, the guy says "Oh, we were told it was a WATER HEATER problem". I specifically told the woman on the phone that it was a crack in the GRAY PIPE UNDER OUR SINK. So, the guy said he had to go get parts. The two men left, and were gone for over an hour, then only one man came back. He said he had to "go back to the shop to get the parts", a piece of copper pipe that he connected to the gray pipe. We were charged $148 for parts and labor. Total. Not bad pricing, and we will be most likely use them again, because they work on gray pipe.

Luckily I live in an apartment so I don't have to pay for the work that was preformed, I had a leak on Friday in the ceiling and was on my way out the door for vacation came back on Monday and he had changed the whole pipe but didn't change the 90* and wouldn't you know come Monday there's another leak where he hooked it up at. The manager finally got smart and called bill Howe and within 2 hrs they were in and out.

Ray from BPI plumbing, came to our house at 1:00 am in the morning! We had a blockage that created a real homeowner nightmare. Both bathroom toilets, shower and tub. He explained what he was going to do, gave us a quote and went right to work. Ray was friendly, honest and courteous. I would recommend Ray, he did a great job!

Communication has been very poor. Day 1: went to Lowe's to inquire about a water heater. Spoke on the phone to a Rennai water heater rep who said an installer would contact us within 24 hours to set up an appt. Strike 1: the call was 120 hrs/ 5 days later. Linda/BPI plumbing called, we set up appt for Monday, Dec 19, 11am-1pm. Strike 2: a no show. Linda, however, called to apologize; something about a computer glitch.
Another appt was reset for the next morning, Tue, Dec 20 at 8:15am. I decided to call at 8:30. Linda answers but doesn't introduce herself or name of company but just says, "Hello." I let her know the nature of my call & she then said the plumbers GPS indicates he's on his way. Plumber calls at 9:08 & says he can be here soon. I now have to cancel because I need to get to other appts and to do list for my day (like finding another plumber).
He says his window of service for my appt is 8am-9am. Let's note: he's calling me at 9:08. Strike 3. How am I to trust & rely on this plumber & the business if communication is not there?!? Take note BPI it can only get better; we learn thru our failures. I don't know how the actual manual labor/ craftsmanship is because we never got there so I can't give an opinion on that.

On Tuesday we made an appointment for today to check our water heater. We were given a time slot of 8-9 am so my husband took the morning off from work to be here for the appointment. At 9:01 a female from BPI called and asked to reschedule to 10-11am. After he explained that he stayed home just for this appointment she apologized and the phone disconnected. No one from their office ever called back. We are so disappointed in the lack of professionalism and level of customer service of this company.

They don't guarantee their work and they don't like to deal with warranties and I was an idiot for using them. Service people were nice. We had them come out to repair and clean an tankless water heater was was having troubles igniting that was 1 and a half year old. So we paid them 450 to have them check it out and clean it. They solved the problem.
Unfortunately a few days later we noticed a small leak and a broken/damaged control wire in the same water heater unit. We called and they came out again and wanted another 100 dollars to diagnose the new problem. At that point I called another company and they came out, diagnosed (2 minutes later and free of charge) and repaired it free of charge since the unit was still under warranty.

Steve at BPI plumbing was so helpful and supportive. Just two weeks after close of escrow, I had a plumbing crisis. He understood my position, educated me as the detective work began to reveal cause and effect, was quite obviously knowledgable, and made an otherwise painful situation. dare I say. fun? Thanks, Steve!

My experience with BPI is excellent. I manage some properties and use BPI because of their responsiveness, honesty, reliability, and reasonable rates. A couple of years ago, I got the call that property mangers dread. On Christmas Eve, there was a massive leak in a condo. I called BPI and they sent out a plumber who was able to resolve the issue quickly and he fully explained the issues to my satisfaction. Then, I got the bill and it was VERY fair, especially considering it was Christmas Eve. I can't say enough good things about BPI.

I hired BPI to do a repair to my shower where the problem involved replacing a cartridge that failed. Long story short, I was quoted on the phone for a $99 hourly rate plus the cost of parts. The job ended up costing $225 for 51 minutes of work. I asked the plumber to leave the part so that I could see what was replaced. When I looked up the part on Home Depot, it was $50, so I felt like the repair should have been in the $150 neighborhood.
When I called to question the charge the dispatcher tells me that the $99 fee was for minor services, such as a clogged toilet. What upset me is that I explained the issue over the phone and it clearly wasn't anything similar to a clogged toilet, so why wasn't I quoted the correct fee. What took my feelings to the next level is that the plumber did not give me an itemized receipt showing how he arrived at the total.
He just wrote $225 = total, so there was no way for me to know what the amount was for the services. Full disclosure - I had written a much more animated version of this review and Alex from BPI reached out to me to get more details. I recounted the events for him and he agreed that the language surrounding my situation was a little fuzzy. When this first happened, I was sure that BPI was dishonest and trying to do underhanded things. Now, I know that this was a misunderstanding and that Alex and team stands behind his customers. Alex refunded some of the money I was overcharged when he had no reason to.
He already had my money and other than my obnoxious review, there wasn't anything else that prompted him to reach out. Based on my interaction with Alex, I would give BPI another try, which wasn't how I felt at all before he reached out to me. Alex assured me that this was a training opportunity with his team and that the correct rates would be discussed prior to the work being completed. Thank you, Alex, for restoring my faith in BPI plumbing.

I called BPI plumbing and set up an appointment with a quoted rate of $95 per hour. The plumber came and worked on a blockage in the drain of my kitchen sink for over two hours. They attempted to snake the drain but failed. He recommended use of a camera which had a flat rate of $250. I went ahead with the camera but they were unable to get an image due to murky water in the pipe.
After 30 minutes of work, the plumber quoted me another $1,500 to rip up my floor, jackhammer through the concrete foundation, and repair the pipe under the house. At this point, I paid $195 for the unsuccessful snake and $250 for the unsuccessful camera work and was now looking at another $1,500 plus the massive inconvenience of having my floor torn up.
I decided a second opinion was needed. I contacted another plumber who came to the house for $75 per hour. He worked on the drain line for 4.5 hours and was able to clear the line with a snake. He also ran the camera through the now clear drain and was able to see that the pipes were in good condition. The other plumber fixed the problem in a single trip without the need to tear up my floors.
I understand that different plumbers have different skills and abilities, but I will not return to BPI Plumbing after this experience. I recommend shopping elsewhere. A good plumber who knows how to snake a line can save you a lot of money.

Bottom Line. The plumber Ray was nice and knowledgeable, the job was done right. Pricing was unfair and overpriced. I called before the work started to discuss my dissatisfaction with the overpriced estimate. Irene was not only unsympathetic, but unwilling to let me speak with anyone else in the company. After about 6 requests to speak with the estimator, then a supervisor and eventually the owner, I was put through to the owner Brian's voice mail. (so I was told) I left a message.
I have yet to receive a return call. They let me down. Full Story. I own a condo in a 300+ unit complex. and the 'go-to' plumber for the association is this company. The home owner's association said I have to use them since BPI knows how to do an official 'water-down' (turn off the water to half of the complex). This is provided for once a month by the Homeowners Assoc. for maintenance and repairs.
I had a simple problem to fix. Replace a leaky copper 'T' that connected my shower valve to the water supply. I called and was told that they would charge me $280 to sweat solder this Copper 'T' that was installed improperly and it was dripping. No the price did not include fixing the gypsum wallboard. Just to solder a new 'T' in.
I had previously opened the wall and diagnosed the leak. The 'T' was exposed and easily accessible about 4' from the ground. They told me that they weren't charging me for the 'water-down'. The BPI 'estimator' said that it will be $280 for just the labor to change the 'T'. I said "To replace a copper "T"?" He said it could be less depending on ho long it takes.
He said that I would only be charged for the time the plumber was in my unit, "Time and Materials" since the condo association was responsible for the cost of the water-down. I asked their estimator what the hourly rate was. He said $90. Three hours to sweat solder a 'T'? Wow. The plumber came and did not bring a 1/2" copper 'T' with him!
I even told the company that this is what was needed and they did an estimate based on this! Really! After waiting for his colleague to bring him a 1/2" Copper 'T', the plumber replaced the 'T' and charged me $280. He did not work for 3 hours in my unit on this repair. The plumber said that it was a flat rate. Since I was repeatedly unsuccessful in reaching any decision maker in the company to discuss the matter, I paid him.
This was Monday during the middle of the day. Not exactly Sunday night. They had me bent over a barrel and took complete advantage of me. If I had any choice, I would not have used this company. I recommend that if you have a choice, look elsewhere for a plumber. By the way, Brian, If you ever want to call and discuss this, I am eager to find out why you or no representative with decision making power has ever called me back to discuss my dissatisfaction; and the apparently untrue claim by your company that I am not paying for your plumber to shut the water.

Very disappointed. They didn't even clear my main drain by snaking twice, still charged me and then told me I would need to spend $2000 to get it cleared as I have no access port. I called another company who charged less and managed to clear it, but not before another few days of no working toilets in the house as we were trying to come up with two grand! So pleased I didn't shell out the $2K.
