Enhance the beauty and value of your Florida home with a custom designed Challenger Pool. There are almost as many different Challenger pools as there are Challenger customers. Because when we design a pool for your home, we also build it for the way you live. Some of our pools are very simple and open. Others include more elaborate features, such as raised spas or cascading fountains.
Pool Deck
Report
Add a layer of luxury to your outdoor oasis with a gorgeous pool deck from Challenger Pools. While our competitors use mixed concrete for their customer's pool deck areas, we use high quality pavers and/or travertine that lasts much longer. Pavers are durable, easier to maintain and rarely crack or chip, unlike poured concrete.

You are dumping dirt and placing pool equipment without taking the neighbor's consent. We did construct our pool with Patiopools and they were strictly following rules - we had to get prior written approval of our neighbor before the construction began and had to send before and after photos of the neighbor's lawn to ensure the pool construction shovel machines and cranes did not damage the neighbor's lawn and sprinklers. Please ensure you take care of prerequisites before proceeding with construction.

A couple of issues to pay attention to but overall a good company and good rating I worked with Mr. Masher and I have to say he is on top of the game, responsive, quick to deal with issues. Overall, Cody pool staff are good, accommodating and professional. I took a star away in this review because Cody pool has difficulty properly training their new staff- in my case, it led to a huge main drain clogged situation that was a pain to deal with.
This could easily have been prevented with simply common sense training. I still would do business with Cody pool but I suggest you stay heavily involved throughout the process and speak up quick with any concerns. One quick comment on the actual subcontractor they hired called 'Florida Pool Finishers'. Their service guy did a overall half poor job dealing with after-care service. I would ask Cody to use other resurfacing subcontractors for better service.

FYI on our experience with Cody Pools (AKA Challenger Pools). Their remodel division has been a disaster to work with. Countless delays, material shortages, mismatched materials, and EXTREMELY poor workmanship. Zero accountability, project oversight, or professionalism. They apparently cannot afford or retain good subcontractors in the Florida market and have no influence with suppliers. You will not be getting the largest pool builder in the U.S. - just an inept staff they inherited after purchasing Challenger Pools.

Building a custom pool is not cheap, nor is it for the faint of heart! There were a lot of ups and downs in the process, but I am absolutely ecstatic about my new pool. John, in sales, immediately returned my initial inquiry and set a time for an appointment to consult. Other pool companies either never answered inquiries or told me to try back months (!) later. John was able to design a lovely pool that fit both my needs and budget.
The fact that they have a showroom to display finishes and give me a better idea of my final pool was definitely an added bonus. John and the initial project manager came out for a site visit after the initial appointment and we're able to adjust the final design to make it even better than originally planned. The construction phase, initially, was well executed.
Site prep, dig, rebar, gunnite pour all happened quickly in sequence. Unfortunately, the process ground to a halt with little explanation and sat idle for 4 months. The lack of communication made this period exceptionally frustrating. I believe this may have been a result of personnel turbulence. However, Cody Pools solved that personnel issue! Adam took over as project manager. ADAM WAS AMAZING! Outstanding communication! Superb organization! Fantastic experience with him from initial meeting to final inspection.
Your pool project will turn out excellent with Adam in charge. I cannot say enough great things about him. Orlando and Hector in the warranty department were great at start-up, pool school, and salt-water conversion. Answered every question and walked me through everything I needed to know.

Jennifer Ramirez has been a treasure this entire remodel process. Such a professional! A simple resurfacing and tile replacement turned into a major project when our poor older pool had way more repair needed than we thought. We LOVE the travertine surface! Brian Masher near the end of the project has been so helpful - even Fedexing our phone we left in the driveway one day. So many other folks also worked with us on this journey- we would never use anyone else!

DO NOT USE CODY POOLS-first read all reviews on all sites-Google, BBB, yelp, etc. We fell victim to them and now we have the biggest disaster in our backyard for a year. They shot the grade on our pool incorrectly and the patio around our pool came out an 1 to 2 inches shorter than my existing patio. We had marble coping installed, their contractors scratched most of it.
I contracted for a roof off the back of my house, they never checked code or even with the company who was building it. It couldn't be built! So yes, my project is a failure due to Cody Pools.

I want to Thank Larry Trainor at Cody Pools, N. Tampa location! Larry walked us through every step of our pool wants and needs and always recommended with honesty suggestions about designs for final outcome of our pool! He always returned my call no matter how long it was that our pool was complete. If I had any questions he would follow up with me or refer me to appropriate person.
Our pool is as built through pandemic but builders did their very best to get pool done. I highly recommend Cody Pools! This is the second time we have had a pool done by their company!

Signed contract and made deposit in July 2021. Plans submitted in October and rejected. New plans created and still not submitted as of this post (3/23/2022). Communication is non existent and I dont even have a permit. It should not take 5 months to redo drawings. Considering legal action as they are earning interest on my deposit and I have been paying for a pool for 8 months with not even a permit complete. Covid or supply chain issues cannot explain away the complete lack of communication or progress.

If I could give zero stars I would. Unbelievably incompetent! Pool construction began May 2021, completed November 2021 but we are now in March 2022 and we still do not have a passed safety inspection nor a final inspection. What does this mean? My home owners insurance does not cover my pool yet, we cannot move forward with any additional work like screen lighting until we get the final inspection.
The safety inspection should have been scheduled BEFORE plaster. Instead, it was scheduled for several days after plaster and it failed the safety inspection due to misunderstandings by the inspector of how the pool alarm functioned. It took Cody Pools until February 2022 to reschedule the safety inspection. It failed AGAIN because the pool was already filled (Cody Pools incorrectly assumed they would pass and simply be fined) The building permit has since expired which Cody Pools is trying to get reinstated and we now have to DRAIN THE POOL in order to pass safety inspection.
We have had a myriad of other issues - paver installation had to be corrected multiple times, we still do not have functioning water features, our screen did not initially pass inspection due to missing fasteners. Unless you have an extreme amount of patience and tons of time to devote to managing them, stay away! Note: Read the reviews, all the bad reviews on Google are responded to with a copy and paste response about customer satisfaction being their #1 priority. well I can assure you that is not my experience.
I am an extremely dissatisfied customer and I still struggle to get timely responses and resolution to this ongoing issue. For additional info see BBB: https://www.bbb.org/us/fl/tampa/profile/pool-contractors/cody-pools-0653-12948/customer-reviews I have an open case with BBB where their responses to the open complaint are either inaccurate or non existent. I had my pool remodeled by Cody Pools and had an excellent experience. I was extremely happy with all the team members that worked on my project. Jay, Brian and Robert were great throughout the process keeping me informed and updated. They were quick to respond with any questions and very pleasant to work with. They started my remodel mid-January and finished end of February.
The sub-contractors that did the work did a great job as well. I couldn't be happier with my new pool and decking! I highly recommend Cody Pools to anyone looking for quality work and an overall good experience!

The best part of this was dealing with John Lalley the sales person but that was about it. I guess he did one hell of a job because after that, communication has been non-existent. The superintendent does it respond when questions are asked. Well maybe once a month. No updates unless you ask and when you ask.crickets for weeks. We signed in March 2021 and it's been a year and we have a shell. Waiting for pavers and was told there are shortage of truck drivers.
Fair enough but asked about if there are any shortage in aluminum and no answer. My guess is that the pavers will arrive in a few weeks and will sit for months and a few more months for the cage and plaster. We will see but very disappointed with the lack of customer service and lack of response and updates. Really hoping this doesn't turn into another Olympus pool situation. I know there are delay and I'm fine with that but updates and communication is all I'm asking for. Especially when I'm dropping $110k for a pool.

The company is a total scam. Do not let their 5-star reviews fool you. It is a sales tactic to get fake 5-star reviews at contract signing. Post contract signing, you can kiss customer service goodbye. You will be treated like a nuisance, the pool will take over a year to complete, you will be kept in the dark on all aspects of the job, and no solid dates will be given.
And don't expect to get ahold of anybody when things get delayed. Brett and Vincent will not return your calls. Wait, they will if you email and call for weeks on end. I hope my review helps at least 1 other customer steer clear of this terrible company.

* Update 2/20/22: Cody Pools completed our pool about 2 weeks ago. We can't be happier! The final result is definitely better than what we expected. Biggest Shout Out to Steve Fultineer, our assigned project Manager. He went above and beyond and we are very pleased with his level of professionalism. now is time for us to enjoy this beautiful investment. April 2021: First, my husband and I are super happy with the amazing costumer service provided by Steve Geiger. Steve meet us at the design center.he listed to what we wanted and how we imagined our new pool.
He created a 3D model of the concept and made adjustments to fit our needs and most of all our Budget. I love how transparent Steve was explaining the whole building process from Permits to final inspection and how upfront he was with the current project's timelines due COVID. But that is not all.the next day after reviewing our initial design we change our minds about few things.
I texted Steve and he not only responded right away he also made the changes we wanted, schedule a Zoom meeting on the spot so he can show us the new 3D concept and after we approved he sent a change order for us to sign digitally and DONE!. I am beyond excited to keep working with Steve and see our dream pool completed. Thank you Challenger Pools & Steve Geiger!

To all of you out there that are going to build a pool and are happy with your design like I was, and have hired this company for the job, please be ready for the delays, the people "sick" with covid, and if you make any changes just be on top of it so you can get the job done right, and if you are not calling for information, be ready for the lack of communication. It's been 28 weeks since construction started and we are still waiting on the pavers to be done ( we've been half way done for more than a month now ) because we still need a pallet of pavers and they have to be made.
We are also waiting for pre plaster and plaster. If you have any questions and want to talk to an actual customer feel free to call me at (813)464-1565 and hopefully help you avoid any issues.

Run from this company. 30 day pool remodel turned into 6 months. They work 2-3 hours. Leave for a week. No managment at all in the field or in the office! Spent $50,000 dollars with them only to have my pool drained in the end. They never asked me about if your pool was leaking or would I like a leak company to come out to check. I would have gladly paid for a leak Doctor. The repair job to my pool looks like a child did it. Horrible pool company. Run.

It has been a long process. First of all I must say, during 2020 a lot of pool companies struggled or went out of business. All construction companies had major issues to overcome. In spite of all the issues Cody Pools stuck in there and overcame the challenges. Eric Hill was our superintendent. He is a bulldog, don't let the soft exterior fool you.
He cares very much for the customer and is fighting behind the scenes. I could tell. He didn't give up. We had major permitting and timing issues with the county that Cody Pools didn't do a ton of business with, as the county was going through their many issues. Eric navigated the issues and worked through them. John Lalley was the sales guy who did the best presentation of 6 pool companies from Hillsborough, Manatee, and Pinellas County.
Three others never called back. Check with the BBB, you'll see they may have had some issues, but they addressed them professionally, and they did a great job with us! All construction companies will have some issues. What matters is how they overcome those issues. As a 21-yr veteran in the US Army, I was happy to know they support the veteran and active duty community. I'm glad I didn't go with a smaller pool company or a less reputable company.
All of those are now defunct or realigning their business model to overcome a challenging economy at the time. My saltwater pool was done exactly how John Lalley proposed from the pavers, plumbing, pool, spa, Pebble Tech, heater, to the pool enclosure. The only minor issue was communication that the construction industry was going through. I understand.
I get it. However, Cody Pools, made it through, I'm glad they did, and I'm sure they will still be the #1 Pool Company nationwide. If I had to build another pool, I would not hesitate to still choose Cody Pools.

Horrible. I would give zero stars if I could. Unless you are interested in having a huge concrete hole in your backyard for months on end and slats of pavers in your driveway for weeks, choose literally any other pool company. This has been the most disappointing and frustrating process; I don't even want a pool anymore.

Our pool was completed 2 weeks ago. Steve Geiger was great with the design process. I will say there were quite a few delays in construction and issues with subcontractors leaving trash in the yard and not showing up when we were told, but our project manager Todd Borsodi got it done and was great to work with. The end result is a beautiful pool. We would like to thank Steve and Todd for their continued communication throughout the construction process. Several people told us we were in good hands with Steve and Todd and that proved to be true.

We got our pool constructed by Cody pools and we are really happy with it. I had taken quotes from 5 different pool companies but no one could match what Cody pools were offering. We were fortunate to have John Lalley as our sales manager. He looked at the pictures of our plot and gave us such good recommendations. The pool looks absolutely gorgeous and we are really thankful to him for it.
I would also like to appreciate our project manager Todd Borsodi who was always responsive and got our pool finished nicely. Even though the pool got delayed due to COVID, the end result turned out just amazing. Would definitely recommend them.

I would avoid this pool company At all costs. We signed our contract in may of 2020 they just finished the project. It's subpar work, pavers are poorly done, communication was non existent I cannot even count the number of times I have called with no response, the yard was left trashed ( not just the dig area). It's as if they were so pleased to have so much room they just tore up the ENTIRE yard.
We had to replace our sprinkler line which was ripped out even though it wasn't near the actual dig and about 5 inches from our home, two panels of our fence were destroyed and took several weeks to be replaced, no footers we're used for our deck or pavers as it wasn't part of the build ( which BTW was never mentioned to us) we have weeds growing up through our pavers as they don't seal them. again avoid this company I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

I signed a contract back in October of 2020 and was told that they would start construction around April/May of 2021. One the "dig" was started, we would be looking at a 12-15 week turnaround time. I was extremely excited once I received a call and an appointment to start mid February. I will honestly tell out that was the ONLY good thing that has actually came from this company.
We are now going into October of 2021 and I am still dealing with this incompetent company. I have kept every text from my project manager Ron and willing to share with anyone that asks. I have a never ending list of missed appointments and extremely poor communication. Some of the contractors do great work when they finally show up and others are a hot mess.
The plumbers have probably been the worst followed by the pavers. The plumbers have been out multiple times now and every time they leave it's something else. This leads to more schedule appointments that are always missed. As for the pavers, at first I thought all was good but as I have been out on the deck I have noticed pavers that are not level and some are just not secured.
Also if you do use them please be ready for a complete mess of a yard as they leave material and trash everywhere. I have spent hours cleaning up the trash and just relocating the just to one spot as they couldn't. If I could do it all over again I would not use them. Do yourself a favor and find another company that had managed COVID better and can keep reliable contractors.

A couple things - firstly, I notice that many (if not the majority?) of recent positive reviews are of the sales process, not mid-pool construction or after delivery. Wondering if people are being given incentives to leave 5 star reviews after the contract signing. Secondly, the project managers need to go to PM training (PMP or even something less intensive).
Communication is poor to say the least. Communication is Project Management 101. If I am told that gunite will be done next week and for some reason the crew is delayed I expect some communication, even if it's brief, to let me know that there is a delay. Honestly, that would keep me happy. At least I would be informed. At the moment I am in the dark most of the time.
I get no proactive communication and often my questions or requests for an update go unanswered. When we are given updates on schedule they appear to be unrealistic. I am not in the pool building business but even I can tell that they are unrealistic. Another project management 101 lesson - do not over promise and under deliver! Thirdly, be prepared for your yard to be a complete mess during construction.
I understand that it's a construction site and there will be dirt everywhere, but I am referring to trash being left behind. When we had Elsa come through I had to go out and collect trash and construction debri lying all over the place to ensure they didn't become projectiles. I expected more. Building a pool is not cheap. If I spend $100k+ on a car you can bet that I will get superb customer service. It's not the case here.

Do not use this company! We signed contract in March 2021. There has been little to no communication from project manager. We have seen our project manager once since the second week in June. Trash left all over property from workers. Multiple issues not addressed since job begun. Project was supposed to be completed in 12-14 weeks once dig began, that timeframe has since passed and we are a long ways from a finished pool.
Once the large second deposit was made.work came to a screeching halt. Drainage problem on the side of the house due to too much fill being left, neighbors yard has been flooded since construction began yet still has not been addressed. Very disappointed In the entire process!

My husband and I decided to contract with Cody Pools and the experience thus far has been amazing! Larry Triana is our Sales Rep and from the first meeting at our home to discuss the process, and our meeting at the showroom to design our pool we have been very pleased. Larry is responsive, pleasant and direct. He is knowledgeable and took time to guide us and advise on the products we should choose.
He allowed us to ask questions when "I" didn't fully understand. He didn't tell us what we wanted to hear and instead tried to be as transparent as he could be. We are looking forward to working with him during our pool building process. If you are thinking of building a pool and you are uncertain please call Larry Triana. He will ease you mind and dispel any doubts you may have.
He thoroughly explained the timeline, what to expect and how he remains fully engaged even after the Project manager takes over. You will not be disappointed. We will update the review as we move through the process Larry, Brad and I are so excited to work with you and the Cody team. Thank you!

He thoroughly explained the timeline, what to expect and how he remains fully engaged even after the Project manager takes over. You will not be disappointed. We will update the review as we move through the process Larry, Brad and I are so excited to work with you and the Cody team. Thank you!

I signed a contract with Glen from Challenger Pools (Cody pools) in June 2020. Work didn't start until 28th Oct 2020. The dig and rebar part of the job went smooth. All down hill after that. The mess left after the gunite was sprayed was appalling. The 5 pallets of pavers for the deck just sat for over 2 months on the lawn. A 12 week job took took 5 1/2 months.
Once the shell of the pool was poured the sub contractors would use the drain to relieve themselves. the shell once dried starting cracking in spots around pool light and between the two columns. The project manager Andy was non existent most of the time during the construction phase. The brand new gutters leaked at a seem and took 3 repeat attempts from the screen company to fix, hurricane straps were installed incorrectly pinched up against the travertine. Mounting screws for the hurricane straps pulled out from the wall 2 days after installation. Repeated attempts to fix these issues took weeks to rectify.
The project manager's boss Brett came out April 5th 2021 to look at the leak issues we were having losing about 2 inches of water a week. Claimed it was a Infinity edge tile leak so had the tile guys back out on April 12th which did nothing for the crack in the shell. Of course the 12 thousand gallons of water had to be pumped out of the pool to do this.
The stucco job on the retaining wall had cracks on the exterior i48 hours after it was done. Was promised to have the stucco wall redone and that has yet to happen. I checked with the county permitting and multiple open permits still exist with no sign off. This company has been paid in FULL effective 3/8/21. My experience with this pool company has been a real CHALLENGE to say the least. I could go on with a lot more issues i have had dealing with this pool company but folks you get the picture.

Awful experience. Signed contract on July 18, 2020 and today is April 1, 2021 and still not "complete". Have had plumbing issues, leak issues, electrical issues. Left my house/doors/windows a mess without pressuring washing or cleaning. I regret using Challenger/Cody Pools and wish I would have used another company. Poor communication and awful subcontractors that they hire to do the work.

At first impression dealing with Jay is what won them my business. He was prompt to respond and informative. We decided to get our pool deck redone w/ pavers and some other work costing close to 10k. The downside to the experience were the contractors they had do the work. Each contractor did the bare minimum to get the job done, cutting corners whenever possible and had to be called back numerous times to get their work completed properly (Not perfect just properly).
The supervisor (who's job it is to monitor the quality of the work) was seen at most once on the job without us summoning him to have the contractors come out to repair something they didn't do correctly. Overall experience wasn't a good one and I feel as though I was overcharged and got ripped off for what I paid for. If you're getting paver work done, choose another company.

John, Brett, and Mark came by for the site survey. Process was straight forward and very, very informative. They walked me thru my design, small changes and hurdles, my responsibilities and theirs. They put me at ease with the process. I think during this time the best part was that we all got to meet, putting names with faces. It also was a good time to understand and discuss realistic timelines, which they defined and explained throughly. Very happy we made the choice to go with challenger pools. Thank you gentlemen.

It has been like pulling teeth during the entire construction of our pool (which is still not complete). Emails and phone calls going unanswered, no one showing up for over 2 weeks (minus one person showing up to work for an hour on a footer). The few times we've been able to get ahold of someone, they have no idea what's going on the with the inspections (we were told everything up to this point has passed inspection, yet the scheduler told us something in the inspection failed).
I have never been so frustrated with a service in my life. The most upsetting thing is the lack of communication. This was supposed to be a fun and exciting process, as this was our dream pool and all it's done is cause anger and resentment. Gulf Stream pools put our neighbors pool in and it took them 7 weeks. We are in week 8 and no sign that it will be finished in the 8 week timeline we were given by our sales associate (although the contract says 8-10, we were told with assurance that it wouldn't take longer than 8.
Our other neighbor is using Challenger and she's so frustrated she wants to cancel her contact. What started out as a dream pool has turned into a nightmare. * 2 year Update: The rest of our coping is now falling off. We don't have kids or wild parties, this is nothing that we've done. The lack of craftsmanship when putting these in is absolutely ridiculous.
If it were possible to "return" a pool, I would do it in a heartbeat. A muddy hole in the ground would be better than the cheap and frankly dangerous work they did on this pool.

This company is complete garbage.please, please read deep into reviews. The good ones on their web site are mostly fabrication. 1.9 on angies list. Subcontractor shumks. had a problem with so called rauel, aka "jason" with no green card actually threw buckets of crap water on My new truck. We had one little dispute and like a coward, damaged my property!
All they did was send someone with major incompetence telling me it was pressure washing overspray. Complete lye. Sent 2 18 year old girls to "detail" it and it was laughable. Still have cement water stuck to it. Hate the pool and all the employees there. RUN, RUN, RUN!

Update(4/14/20): I added some pictures, but they really don't do it justice. Had pool school yesterday, and Hector couldn't have made it any clearer. My wife and I feel like we have a good grasp of how to maintain it. I look forward to many years of fun and entertaining. Another shout out to Andy, our PM, for getting things done right the first time. Challenger Pools has Andy to thank for meeting and exceeding our expectations. Can't give it 5 stars, because no business is perfect. Update(4/8/20): I'm happy to announce that are pool is done, and it is awesome.
Just turned the pumps on today. Waterfall, bubbler and lights look very nice. Unless you sit back and watch the process you can't fully understand the amount of work that goes into it. It got ugly at times, but the finished product is what matters. Big thanks to Andy our PM for moving this along. Most important thing I learned from all this, is to make sure you have reasonable expectations. Can't wait to get in it. Pictures will follow. Update(3/16/20): Well after we worked out some issues, I will say things are moving along nicely.
We are in the home stretch. Andy, our project manager has been doing a good job communicating the status of remaining work to be done. I believe the main problem with Challenger Pools is that they are building to many pools. They don't have the resources to build the pools they sell. There inlies the problem. I think once they figure that out the better their reviews will be, and the happier their customers will be.
I can't say anything regarding quality yet, because I haven't been in it yet. Visually, things look good. Stay tuned for further developments. Original Post(2/26/20: I would not recommend this company. Terrible project management skills. They do not keep you informed on status.

9 months later, and things are still not right. It takes a minimum of five phone calls to get anything from them. They sent the plasterer back out to look at the sun shelf. They picked up my teak patio furniture up and put it in the pool to see if it was level, didn't see an issue with the rocking, stated that it wasn't their fault, b/c the bubblers were installed to high. Then, they informed me that the only way to fix it would be to empty the pool (again), jack hammer everything out, re-pour it, then replaster it.
They were rude and abrasive. The contractor was there working on the auto fill at the time, and said that wasn't right, they'd get someone else. I've heard nothing since. I am stuck with that shelf. The auto fill was installed post-build b/c they forgot it, and was done incorrectly. It was piped wrong. They claimed it was repaired twice, and finally "fixed" it last week.
Last night, I turned it on. This morning, I woke up to my pool being 2" below the water line, the top has blown off my filter, water is spraying everywhere, and Challenger Pools? They're not answering their phones. Bottom line? I'm $20k in out of pocket expenses to fix shoddy work. They will not pay for their errors, and quite frankly, since they get final payment before the plaster, they don't care. Do yourself a favor, steer clear of this nightmare.

In June, my wife and I spoke with Jay on having our pool remodeled after deciding to convert to a salt system. Jay gave us some suggestions on things we needed to do in order to get the most out of what we were paying for. After speaking with him we had our cage re-screened, several trees pruned back and trash trees removed.

Mostly everyone out there can make your pool dreams come true, whatever those may be. However, not everyone out there will truly focus on your satisfaction and customer service. I have worked with Jay and the rest of the team from day 1. Any questions or issues i thought i had were always taken care of first and foremost. The team is incredibly nice and sharp at what they do.

Mr. Reader, We have recently had to have our swimming pool equipment relocated to the back of the pool due to county regulations. Mr. Messler was given the assignment and what could have been a nightmare of an experience, has turned out to be a wonderful experience because of Brian. He has been great. He is friendly, efficient, responsible, and does a fabulous job.

Challenger installed our pool in May or June 1994. I actually still have the job #40505. How about that? We have enjoyed this pool all these years and now the grandchildren are (not that we're saying we're old.) Since Challenger did such a great job back then I felt I should ask Challenger first for an estimate for resurfacing the pool.
