CDC Pool remodelling was born in 1990 when Roger and Chris teamed up to solve a problem they saw in the Arizona pool market. When Roger and Chris started CDC Pools, pool remodeling was an afterthought for pool contractors that focused on new pool construction and their handful of large developer customers.
We have more superintendents in the field than contractors twice our size. Why? Again, the nature of remodeling (this is major construction, unearthing decades-old construction often reveals shortcuts). AND our owners' commitment to quality. We're not perfect, but we do our best to put experienced crews we control on the job and put experienced and committed superintendents on each job.

An important part of our business is re-surfacing pools for resorts, municipalities, HOAs, universities, etc. One reason some of the largest, most demanding companies trust us is our experience. Plain and simple, very few remodeling contractors have done more commercial jobs than we have. And we'd bet NOBODY has done more complex jobs than we have.

Our pool plaster isn't just plaster. A high percentage of the surface is quartz, not plaster, which makes it more durable and long-lasting that just plaster. We're happy to quote you our plaster surface, but real estate professionals will tell you that a new plaster surface does not add to the value of your home. Pebble does.

We were getting our pool refurbished. Do not use this company. The only thing they are quick about is collecting money. Tried to get an accurate work schedule so we could make sure the dog was away. They were unable to. We are nearing 7 weeks of what should have been a 4 week project and we are still waiting for electrical and the pebbletec install.
The real shame is that we told them we wanted it done before our guests arrive and they didn't even come close to listening to that. The techs appear to do a good job but plumbing was done wrong and they finally came to fix it yesterday. I'm not sure if they can even finish the job. They have been continuously being dishonest with us. There lots of pool contractors in the area. Pick someone else.

The lack of communication was the worst. They initially told us it would take 5 to 6 weeks, maybe more to do the job. No explanation of what to expect throughout the 6 weeks. Once they put us on the schedule, they sent out the crew to chip the pool, without notifying us. A crew was outside waiting for us to get up. From there, the only time they sent someone out was when we called for status. They worked on the job for 8 days (half days) total. 5 of those days were on the 6TH week of the project. Communicate with your customers throughout the project!

I had the pool resurfaced and a heat pump installed. I love all of it and the quality of the work makes me confident it will last a long, long time. Cassie was great in helping me figure out what I wanted. It was all planned out well and done on time. Danny was the super on the job and went above and beyond every step of the way. If you want to learn how to take care of a pool, he is your guy. I highly recommend.

My wife and I just had our pool resurfaced and and just wanted to say how happy we are with the work. Nanette was our superintendent, she was great, she stopped often to check status of our work, answering our calls and texts, and kept us in the loop about phasing of the work and when crews would be on-site. As for the crews they were very professional, efficient and knew their jobs. And when day was over everything was cleaned up and you would never know they had been there. Again thank you CDC pools and to Cassie ours sales rep for a great job.

We worked directly with Cassie at CDC pools. From the very beginning she was very easy to work with in ensuring all our questions and concerns were answered and she was always on top of getting back to us right away if we had a question. Company was able to complete our pool remodel on time during a requested time frame and they communicated every process until the project was completed. I would recommend CDC. Great service all around and ask for Cassie she will take very good care of you.

I signed a contract with CDC pools in April to remodel my 16 year old pool. (remove white plaster and replace it with pebble tech & replace tile). The price was very competitive. I was STUNNED at how smoothly the process went. My pool was drained on June 7, chip out a couple of days later, new tile the next day and clean out shortly thereafter, then acid wash and next day (as I remember) was PEBBLE TECH!
The whole process from draining the water & chemicals back in the pool on 7/6 - 29 days! ALL of the people who were involved with this project were fabulous to work with- from Jerry Herzog, sales; Adam Rossetti, Supervisor; Vicki Gurule, Billing plus all of the office staff, all of the men working at the site enduring very hot days; Jesse who was here without haste to acid clean a few spots on steps. There was always someone available to answer questions during the entire process. I would give them ALL - a 5 STAR + rating! Jeri Link

My project is ongoing but I thought I'd post anyway. The travertine is done and the workmanship was so good and the result even better than I imagined. This is seriously hard labor and Daniel's crew were spectacular craftsmen. They were also super nice people. I've read some of the negative posts. Yes, it's taking longer to get done.
But those posts are missing what's going on in the world right now. Staffing and supplies are just not what we are accustomed to in AZ. In my own business I'm just asking people to be kind to workers who show up and work hard every day. Every industry is impacted. I also remind myself why I chose CDC Pools. In business for 30+ years, longtime good reputation and highly recommended by friends. They'll get it done right! Lastly, check out some photos. It's raining a ton and check how sweet that drainage is working!

Communication: Make sure you are prepared to stay on top of them. Communication is terrible. They talk up their communication, even have a printout talking how important it is. They will then proceed to leave you in the lurch and leave you to wonder what is happening next. We just wanted some time estimates and this was too much for them. They kept telling us it takes three weeks, until that passed and then wouldn't communicate further.
They wouldn't even tell us when they arrived and would walk in the back yard unannounced, dogs barking at them and all. Our foreman and salesman both were put out when we would attempt contact once a week to get a status. Chip Out: The chip out went rather smoothly. They did, however, chip a tile and this was reported many times to the foreman.
The tiles is still un-repaired. We had some "hollow" areas in the pool and was quoted a reasonable amount by their inspector and then the foreman. The salesman comes back with numbers 4 times the amount estimated by the two other people. They wanted almost $5k to flash 2" of concrete over the bottom of the pool. We opted for a cheaper fix and they came in with less than a bag of concrete and literally just dropped in on the bad spot.
I complained that I could have done this same job for the cost of a bag of concrete and they stated that their $1400 fix was reasonable for this type of work. They had no clue what was actually completed as they had hired a third party to complete this. We complained and they knocked $600 off this and tried to make us feel like this was a good deal. Install: Day of was smooth and done quicker then I thought.
They mostly cleaned up but left blue splatters from the pebble-tech finish on our paver patio. They created some sort of mixer on the side of our house and there were blue splatters on our windows and stucco which had to be cleaned by hand. They also left a mess in our rocks on the side of the house. I had to chip out some hardened finish from our gravel and I will have to do touch up paint on our block wall and there is something that splattered that isn't washing off with a scrub brush.
Be prepared to clean up after them. Finish: The finish looks great, they installed new drains and pump inlets which look great. There was a small fracture in the finish that we noticed and reported to the foreman and this has gone un-repaired. The pool finish is wavy in sections, but doesn't detract from the overall finish. Fill: We were told that we needed to make sure that after the pool was filled that we needed our pool tech to come out as soon as possible to balance the chemicals, we paid for a special service off hours for this to be done.
Several days later a representative from CDC knocked on our door and said he was there to balance the chemicals. We advised him that this was already done and he was surprised that our foreman/salesman didn't advise that CDC would be doing this. Bottom Line: Stay away from CDC Pools. The finished product looks good, apart from the chipped tile and crack in their new finish, but the hassle and headaches to stay on top of them is to much.
We wished we would have paid more for a company that can manage their resources effectively to complete the project in a timely manner. I believe they are way over their heads with the amount of work they have in the pipeline. Also, be prepared to clean up after their installers and possibly replace some stained pavers and touch up some paint. No-one has reached out to us to resolve our issues.

I don't check Yelp very often and I just noticed the response I received from CDC. Are you kidding me? I explained two concerns in my complaint below: that I didn't get the upgraded color and that seven months goes by and CDC then tries to get more money from me. Look at the company response below. These are words to try and justify things or try to make the company seem like they were in the right or something.
They didn't address my two points. I told them I didn't even get the upgrade and their response to me is that I was billed for the upgrade. Wow. They didn't even try to explain why seven months goes by before they try to get more money. How can that even happen? This is like a political response or something. Playing with words to make things seem OK. Pathetic.

Terrible. Delay after delay after delay- They want all the money up front and then delay everything, CDC neglected to reserve our three month prior selected tile choice with the distributor (the last 600 linear feet sold out two days before they started tile. So, we ended up with ugly tiles cause everything was sold out- great planning CDC)- wrong colors, plumbing issues, more delays. Sunshine and smiles by the salesperson, then sharp disappointment.
Use another builder/ re-surfacing company. You'll have zero leverage with CDC and your stress level will end you up in a hospital. Also, had a neighborhood friend that used to be in the pool business- He informed me CDC is known for shoddy work, and for being extremely overpriced. He told me "You could have gotten better work done for $1,500-$2,000 less". Great!
Now I found this out. Look at other reviews- there's obviously a consensus here. Not many happy customers. That same former pool builder told me "Look for the in-between company". He explained, don't go with the biggest in town (CDC) and don't go with some small start-up. The big guys have tremendous overhead with hundreds of jobs going at once, multiple crews/ equipment etc.
They pass these expenses on to the client and usually end up rushing jobs that result in mistakes and poor quality. In another way, the small start-up invariably makes mistakes and incurs delays, not for lack of trying to build a happy customer base, but for simple lack of experience etc. Go for the established, small-medium sized contractor with decent reviews.
I wish I had this advice before CDC robbed me. CDC is an appropriate name though (Center for Disease Control(Cause).they gave me a stress disorder and a nervous breakdown. ***UPDATE 06/21/2021: After finally getting our pool surfaced. It was lumpy, wavy and extremely rough. It has literally ripped open the feet of over twenty people that have been in the pool!
Like a tank of Piranhas! We have gone through two boxes of bandaids. Our steps are as uneven as Himalayan Trucking Road. They left a temporary water tank at my curb for two weeks (getting me into trouble with my HOA) and left their concrete filled slurry box in my backyard for three weeks after the pool was filled! The plumber dropped a PVC glue applicator down a pipe- he did not fess up and it ended up going into the 'clock' for the in-floor cleaning!
It kept the cleaning on one zone for over a week, piling up debris! I finally had to remedy the problem myself after the discovery. It cost $500 for another unit. The plumber also installed two gate valves backwards that I had to re-install. They sent out a polish tech (I use the term 'tech' very loosely) he spent over two hours buffing the steps (when the steps are a very temporary foot placement) instead of worrying about the insanely rough pool floor that is responsible for cutting everyone's feet open!
After he finished polishing pointlessly in an exercise of futility, I notice that he has burnished to black all the $600 upgraded one inch rainbow metallic step and bench tiles! He permanently destroyed (grinded off the metallic patina) over 50 tiles- making the pool steps and baja benches look as if they were Thirty years old! Heard back after posting this: Guaranteeing replacement of damaged tiles and polishing the flooring of the pool. We'll see.

6/22/2021 After posting this review- I called CDC management and explained how upset my wife and I are with the job. They are sending out a polish tech to finish the flooring and putting into writing a guaranteed replacement of damaged tiles in the Fall (when it cools and they can effectively drain the pool) I almost deleted the original review, instead I'm leaving it and adding a star.
In the end, the experience I described here was exactly what happened. Also, the warranty rep. just explained that they are only replacing the damaged tiles and not addressing the wavy like biscuit gravy poorly trowelled stairs and adjacent corners. A much better job could have been done.

@Justin, i guess it is a matter of "he said, she said" at this point. I was in fact told it would take about 3 wks and the project would be completed around beginning of May. Regardless, all of this could have been tempered with better communication not only up front but throughout the entire project timeline. That was the most frustrating part for me was not knowing when crews would show up and me having to follow up every step of the way. What is done is done. Time to move on.

CDC Pools just completed our remodel and we are thrilled with the outcome! Cassie Selle was our initial contact. She was very accommodating, as well as friendly and knowledgeable. Sergio Leyva was the Superintendent and directed the entire project. The work crews were always punctual and very polite! Both Cassie and Sergio were quick with responding to our many questions throughout the process and the crews are true professionals.
To no fault of theirs, we had to delay progress while other work was being done. They understood, did not rush us, and worked around our schedule. We did our research and so glad we chose CDC. There are many pool companies out there, but CDC truly cares. The final product is superior to others I've seen and the workmanship is impeccable. We could not be happier and highly recommend CDC Pools for your pool remodel needs.

I'm writing this review in real time and will add to it and make adjustments as progression happens. We contracted CDC for a full pool and patio remodel in late December. The way their contract reads you essentially pay them 90% of the money before 25% of the work is done. We were not comfortable with this and negotiated a little better terms.
They still require 50% upfront. Cassie was helpful and patient during the sales process. Our walk thru was scheduled for Tuesday, 2/9/21 and happened on schedule. The project was to start on Thursday, 2/11. Kevin told me during the walk-thru that they were running a couple days behind so it would either be Thursday or Friday but that scheduling would be in touch each step along the way to notify us of what is happening. Thursday and Friday came and went with no word or crew. Saturday, 2/13, with no notice the crew shows up and demos the pool. Ok, would have been nice to know they were coming, but let's get this party started. Demo was done quickly and they cleaned up 97% of the rocks and debris so we were happy with that. Now, 10 days later, we haven't heard from or seen anyone.
No progress, no communication. We paid them $16,600 60 days ago and this is what we have to show for it so far. Since they came recommended from our pool guy and a friend, we sure hope it gets better. We will be updating review along the way, but getting concerned. Update: Friday, 2/26/21 we received an email that they will be coming to complete the tile around the top of the pool on Monday, 3/1/21. Progress? We will see.

The good news.the quality of work is great, when the workers are here. Hence the 1 Star. The bad news and why I would not recommend using them. We signed a contract to remodel our pool in late February with a start date of April 27th and this would be a 3 to 4 week job. Demo old pool surface, old pool deck, install new pool deck, new pool surface.
A week before the 27th they called to say they are a week behind and will start May 3. They sub out the jobs and the crews that show up are good but communication between Tim in sales and Sergio the project lead are poor. Two weeks ago we asked for an update on when our pool surfacing would be completed. This is the last step, a day to install the pebble tec pool surface and a day to acid wash and fill the pool.
We were told they are behind due to COVID and material delays. On Monday, May 24th I asked if we were going to have it installed this week as we were planning a Memorial Day BBQ Pool party. Tim said no and why would you plan a pool party with a project not completed?. I said because we are in the 4th week not counting the 1 week delayed start. He commented that everyone is calling in and complaining about the delays and there is nothing he can do about it.
I asked for them to keep me posted if its not getting done this week then when next week. Today is June 1 and I still have no update. I texted Tim last Wed for an update, and both him and Sergio today. Nothing. Is this the end of the world? No, However, when small children and dogs are around you would think that they at least would have put plastic or some type of barricade up knowing that there expected service date would be later. Falling into a 6 foot hole is a safety hazard for any project. CDC needs to stop with excuses and stop over promising.

We worked with CDC Pools and have been very pleased! Not only are we happy with our finished pool project, but they have been beyond professional from start to finish. During the bidding and contract process, Jerry was patient and responsive to all of my questions (I had plenty throughout the process). Sergio was our contract manager and was in communication with me pretty much daily throughout the entire project - start to finish.
For those looking to resurface, their outdoor show-space allows you to see the different surface samples/colors in water. This way you really get a feel of what it will look like in the natural sunlight. Tile samples can also be shown with the outdoor surface samples to give you a realistic visual of the look you want in your design. We recommend CDC Pools for pool Remodeling/resurfacing - we are glad we found them!

Words cannot express how satisfied and happy we are with CDC Pools. Our 10+ year old pool was in need of a makeover. After making the call to CDC pools, Cassie was quick to respond to set up an appointment and provide information about the company and our options for our "pool makeover". With several options provided to us, and with the help of Cassie, we had our "pool makeover" set! Cassie explained the process and provided a timeframe for completion. CDC Pools and Cassie were always quick to respond when we had questions.

Used them for a pool remodel. Definitely not inexpensive. The show room was a little cramped and it was difficult to visualize the color options. Tim was nice and seemed knowledgeable. The company was not effective at communicating. I called them about an issue a few weeks after the remodel was finished. They said they fixed it but never did. Definitely felt like I needed to babysit them on a couple of occasions. Average at best.

Worst company I've ever had to deal with. Built a new pool and used them for tile work. All the grout cracked in 2 weeks, they do nothing but give you the run around and lie. Do yourself a favor and never never never use this company! I've had to open a case with the BBB and Attorney General's office.

The only leverage consumers have when they feel slighted from a business is reviews and karma. Thank God! The business does not respond to request for warranty service which leads to frustration and eventually the consumer wants fairness. Reviews are the tool. Businesses influence consumers via the website, promotions, etc. However, the truth lies with the customer. Regardless.
What the customer views is their truth. I urge all consumers to use customer reviews to find the truth. My truth about CDC pools is they don't care after the sale. 3 weeks of constant emails, phone calls and virtually nothing in return. They are busy and warranty work is not important. My hope is the $100 of costs they would have paid to repair their work will costs much more. Hopefully thousands.
They think they have leverage but good ol karma and customer reviews will prevail. As a consumer of their services, I highly recommend you look elsewhere. BTW. We are buying a new house and will need a pool. I guess they already have lost thousands. Yay!
