C & J Fencing

We contracted with C&J Fencing along with another neighbor for a shared fence. The contract stated that they would set the fence posts in 3 foot-deep concrete-filled holes. Unfortunately we were not present at the time the work was done. As time passed the fence began to lean. It began to lean so severely that we called C&J and told them what was happening.

We began to investigate and found that the only concrete related to the posts was about a 3 inch ring around the top. So the posts were just set in 3 feet of dirt, not concrete. Without coming out to look at the fence, they said they would repair it by replacing the posts for $100 each for a total of $1,000. We, of course, had to hire someone else to repair the fence. I would never recommend C&J Fencing to anyone.

Critical: Professionalism I tried to call and schedule an estimate with a person that I could not understand and when asked about the recent rash of bad reviews on google, basically hung up on me. Very sad as I used this company 15 years or so ago to replace a fence and this is the current state of trying to do business with them.

I do not recommend this business. They recently replaced a shared fence on a property line with a neighbor. First, they cut two substantial branches on a tree (on my property) with cuts that were over six feet from the fence line without asking to do so or receiving prior permission. When I asked the crew supervisor why that happened and why didn't he ask permission, he said he didn't know they did it.

The branches were on the ground and easily seen. Second, on the same day after the work was completed and I saw what happened, I contacted them by email with pictures about the problem and asked them to contact me immediately. No response. I left two voice mail messages with their head of "quality" (Tammie) over the next two days. No response. I then left a voice mail message with the owner, Chris.

Still no response. Their lack of interest in responding is very disappointing. You can go to the Better Business Bureau website and see a complaint made that is very similar. That complaint is not from me.

We hired C & J Fencing to reconstruct our retaining wall 5 years ago. They did a fantastic job so we rehired them to replace our fence. As promised they put quality at the forefront and did a rock solid job. Rodney and his crew were extremely professional and communicative throughout the entire process. Another job well done!

C&J Fencing did work at my property few years ago and I was satisfied with their work back then. They did additional work at my property few days ago and the gate that they recently installed was not as agreed on with their representative when he gave me the quote. The gate was supposed to have a metal frame similar to the gate that they installed on the other side of my house few years ago.

On the day of the quote, C&J representative saw the old gate and confirmed that the new gate will have a metal frame. I called them during installation to tell them that the gate is being assembled without a metal frame and is not acceptable and it should have a metal frame similar to the one they installed few years ago. They asked me to allow the installation to continue, pay the invoice and that they will send someone later on to replace the gate.

I paid the invoice with their promise that someone is going to come back and fix the gate. They have not sent anyone to replace the gate and their field representative is not even responding to my email and phone calls.

I am a return customer since C&J fencing did m brother's house in Hercules that we are happy about their work. I have C&J fencing done my house in Pinole last week and ah again we are happy about the work. t the crew was on time, responsible for cleaning all up after, and most import importantly the work. They made one side fence higher to cover up my storage window and the other side by using the same locker. Materials are redwood that made my house looks bright and shine. Ha Highly recommend C&J and will hire them again for another project.

Sadly, after a rush 3-day demo-install of my good neighbor fence with retaining wall, the crew broke a water valve and a HOA sprinkler valve. The HOA sprinkler valve was left to the customer (me) to pay, with C&J reminding the customer, the devil is in the details of the contract! C&J did a sloppy throw and go cement job left to an unskilled helper.

The cement damage is dry-done! My slate patio will have to be cut into to repair-cap the broken sprinkler valve. I took pictures along the way and responsibly, paid cash with no corrective action.

After about 7 years, a few of my fence posts became loose and dislodged from concrete. Clearly the posts anchors failed. Not knowing what to expect, I contacted C & J and sent photos through their website. I received a response within the hour, and had an appointment scheduled to have them repaired under warranty with NO HASSLES WHAT SO EVER! Everything is all fixed. This is an excellent example of outstanding customer service & standing behind your workmanship promise. Thank you C&J!

I totally don't know why this company had bad reviews. C&J just completed all four sides of my yard (not small, three day job) and I really think they did a great job. They had the lowest estimate and my neighbor (shared fence) recommended them due to previous fencing work; therefore, I decided to give them a try and it was great. For the money, at least for me, it won't go wrong.

We had the misfortune of having them build our fences several years ago, so we are stuck with them. We needed to have some posts replaced and there were 2 sides that needed to be taken care of. We called to set up an appointment to have them replaced. My neighbor and I coordinated so we can both have the repairs done on the same day. Well, they came and only took care of one side of fence and didn't schedule the other side as I had requested.

One of the post that they replaced was really full of the chemical treatment coming out of the wood. They said it is normal and just need sanding. I don't know about it, but I don't like the looks of it. Then worst was that when I went to the office to find out what had happened I was received by a very unfriendly person who started making faces at me and twisting her lips.

When I asked her what she was doing, she asked me too leave the premises and turned her back and walked away without taking care of the situation. I then, was going to call for a police stand-by so we can resolve my issue. This was very unprofessional and very rude. Finally, as was about to dial a nice lady came out and talked to me and set up an appointment to fix the problem.

I don't know how it will turn out, but for now someone will come to fix the posts. PLEASE AVOID USING THIS COMPANY. DON'T EVEN SCHEDULE; SAVE YOURSELF THE AGGRAVATION. NO ONE IN THE OFFICE SEEMED TO BE IN CHARGE.

I had the fence in my backyard replaced by C&J Fencing in early January. The new fence is beautiful and the workmanship seemed excellent. They were also reasonably and competitively priced. Since it was Winter, I did not need to water the plants in my backyard until recently and a couple of weeks ago I set my automatic drip system to water twice a week.

I noticed all along the new back fence nothing was getting watered. I had my husband check it last weekend and he patched leaks in the drip line in several places. Still had problems. After a lot of muddy digging, he found the problem. The main drip line hose had been cut in two by the fence post C&J installed! I took pictures and went to C&J yesterday.

I showed the receptionist and she was going to have someone in authority (a manager or supervisor) call me to discuss. I have yet to receive a phone call. This is very poor customer service. If you have work done by C&J, I suggest you make sure your automatic sprinkler system and/or automatic lights work after their work is done! Don't let them leave before checking it, or check right afterward. Wish I had thought to do so back in January.

I am honestly shocked that this company does not have five stars all the way around. We had a bigger job that had two of our neighbors attached to, and C & J did such a great job informing all of the parties and guiding us through the process. From Ryan coming out to discuss the estimate and answering all of our questions (super kind and very knowledgeable) to discussing billing, scheduling, etc with Crystel, Debbie, and Tammy.

Their communication, professionalism, and care was and is top notch. Their crew was timely, respectful of our neighbors, and our property. We are thoroughly impressed with their work as well. I will have to post pics when I can. But if you would like to see, please message me in the meantime. Have nothing but incredible praise for this company.

Very knowledgeable and experienced. The crew arrived on time and finished as they had said. They replaced 100 feet of fence in 5 hours. I have used c&j fencinfg for 3 different fences. They look great and they stand behind there work. my first fence from C$ J is over 20 years old it still looks good and the gates work fine. Ted

The fence looks fine, but they did $1300 in damage to our solar and irrigation system. They did the same damage to my next door neighbor's system. He withheld payment, and they fixed it for him. I paid them, in good faith reliance on their promise to fix it for me. Months later, they won't fix it or return my calls.

C & J fencing install a fence for me about eight years ago. I have some issues with it contacted them they requested photographs which I sent back to then they then requested additional photographs which I had sent they never responded to me. So much for a good customer service. Suggest not to use them

We were very pleased with the responsiveness and quality of work that C&J fencing performed for us. Rodney was very helpful and knowledgeable when planning our project, provided timely quotes, and assisted as needed during construction of the fence to make sure we got what we needed. The crew did excellent work and the new retaining wall, fence, and gate look fantastic! Highly recommended.

They were tough to deal with and their time-frames we're all over the place. The first gate they built was really poor quality and after some convincing they agreed to replace it and make it right. The new fence is 100x better and we are happy with it. Service: Wood fence installation

Exteremly disappointed at the fence they made for us. They simply lie! On the first day Ryan came to give an estimate, he said they can build the fence to match another part, and after installation they are totally different and they now give different excuses. Worst customer service ever. They only lie so they can get the job. NOT RECOMMENDED.

We don't normally write reviews but the more we think about this incident, we have decided to write this. Our neighbors hired C & J Fencing to do a privacy fence, which was started a couple weeks back and finished on August 19th. Keep in mind, they were hired by our neighbors not us! Even though the neighbors were home, c & j fencing managed to blocked our driveway.

Our kids grandma is here through out the day and needs to come and go. Grandma had to ask them to move multiple times. My neighbor across the street texted to let me know that c & j fencing was using our water to mix their concrete and also wash their tools in our front yard. Not sure why, considering the property that c & j was working for has access to water near the fence they were putting up.

What gave c & j fencing the right to wash their tools and use of our water we do not know. My neighbor stop them from using our water and cleaning their tools. Which brings up an interesting additional charge they have on their website if one does not provide them with power or WATER! It states " an additional charge of $125.00 will be added to your final bill if we arrive for the installation and we were not notified that the power and water are not available." Later that day my wife came home from work and talked to my neighbor across the street about what had happened and they both noticed nails in our driveway.

I decided to call c & j fencing on Friday August 20th at 8am, I asked to speak to a manager or supervisor and spoke to Kim, I explained what had happened and she apologized and that she would take it up with Crystal and Ryan who were in charge of that crew. Kim also mentioned that the crew " did not use much water." Regardless of how much water was used they were hired by my neighbor not me!

Also Kim was not on the job site so for her to say that her crew did not use much water is unprofessional. Kim asked for my name and address and phone number. I figured it would be to further discuss the incident and or compensating us for using our water. To date no one has reached out to us. If your looking for a company that will respect yours and your neighbors property I would recommend looking elsewhere.

FYI-I received an email from their customer service representative yesterday stating C&J Fencing will not install fencing near pool equipment/pools in order to avoid any liability. WTF? A Bay Area fencing contractor who won't work around pools?

Another great job here in San Leandro. This is the 2nd time I've used C&J Fencing. they have now done all three fenced sides of my property! A good bid, excellent communication with the office staff, and a great job on-site from start to finish by their crew. All hard to find these days.

Beware! They pick lowest point of our lot to put up 6' fence. It ended up being about 5' from most standing ground from our yard since I can easily see over the fence and I'm 5'5". The "privacy fence" is not private at all. The job supervisor was rude, yelling at me the whole time.

Awful awful atrocious person came to my property. Deadpanned stared at me and had me so upset I am shaking. I came running here because he didn't call ahead to tell me he was here. He didn't say one word to me except counter everything I said and then walked off my property saying he's not a good fit for me. Absolutely right. I would never ever give my hard earned money to a jerk like that.

He deserves to be fired. He was angry he had to wait bc he said we do t call before we get here. I'm running to make it and this guy was the worst estimator or service provider I've ever met. He was disgusting And I called in tears bc I thought maybe the office would have compassion and Debbie hung up on me. She also hung up on me while I was explaining how indignant he made me feel. I just literally can't believe that an owner can have workers like this and just not care.

I tried calling them to get a quote. Their pone system s complicated. Meaning you won't reach a person. Talked to the front desk basically she can't give any information. Don't understand why they can't just give a straight forward quote. It's not that hard? Quit.

It was our second time using C and J Fencing for our back yard fences that we share with 5 neighbors. The office folks were professional and responsive. Rodney who came out for our estimate was wonderful to work with for the second time. The team came out and was on time. We had some fixes we needed and the office folks were once again responsive and helpful.

The guys they had come out (Raoul and Arnoldo) were so great and they addressed all our fixes quickly. So quickly that I didn't get a chance to thank them! Thank you to you both for a wonderful job!

Do not use them. They leave junk behind, damage your plants, leave fencing hanging dangerously, work is fair at best and horrible customer service. I emailed them the pictures of the damage, mess and unacceptable work and they didn't bother to even give me a call. I know they got the email because they said it would be forwarded to the right person. Apparently based upon so many bad reviews, they just do not care. Except they did call for the payment. No call, unprofessional.

Workmanship is abysmal. Standard of quality is an absolute joke. After 2 call backs for a bad installation on a very simple fence, and 4 months later, I'm still left with a 2.5 gap at my gate. Their solution now is to hide it with a fence board rather than fix it properly. Additionally, my 4 year old fence from the same company is falling apart due to incorrect/inadequate staples and nails.

As a local licensed general contractor with experience in the industry and a clear understanding of quality and craftsmanship, I would never recommend this company to any of my clients. EVER! Save yourself from this place.

We had our fences done by C&J years ago. We have noticed a lean from one of the posts. CJ responded in a timely manner. They came and fixed the leaning post and didn't even charge us ( I didn't expect that). I thought this was outstanding customer service. Thank you C&J

Then there is http://candjprojects.com/ with 866 #. http://candjprojects.com/ claims they have 400 reviews & are 5 stars on Yelp, Google, Houzz & Angie's List! LAIRS! Just yelp 243 reviews 2.5 stars. Scrolll down to bottom of this yelp page "Not Recommended Reviews" 56 of them & almost all of those are 1 star! RUN AWAY & RUN FAST & FAR

Excellent job at a good price! We got a quote with two different neighbors, and also a quote for the gates in the front which was solely our responsibility. I forgot to add that in the signed invoice, but only realized it last minute when the guys were here to start the job. I am so grateful to Crystel for accommodating me and and making the gate happen while the guys were here. I really appreciate that as she and Rodney made it happen with their busy schedule.

Run a mile from this company. The work is sub-par at best and the company follow up is terrible. The finish work on the fence itself is amateurish, they did not line it up with the other fences and the crew left litter and nails all over the ground. We recently used them to replace the fence between us and our neighbors. I pointed out to the crew leader that we had Sprinkler lines and landscaping lighting lines - he said they would move them before digging.

Since getting the fence replaced, I have had to pay another contractor to repair two landscape lighting lines AND the control wires to the sprinkler system this has cost me an extra $600. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY FOR ANY WORK.

I was surprised by the ratings and had to post this- I normally don't provide reviews but this was needed. Rodney from C&J came out and was great, understood what we needed and helped avoid an issue down the road. He was on time for all their commitments and respected our COVID concerns, great overall experience and great work. Really enjoyed my experience and had them back to complete more work. I have worked with the team over the past several years on different projects and always had a great experience.

The 4 x 4 's are rotting because they used cheap lumber and they didn't use enough concrete. My fence is only a few years old and I need the replace the 4 x4's, lots of work. I remember Sean telling me that the fence will last as long as I live in my home. Not true.

Fence looks decent, but workers are careless. When removing the old fence, they let it drop on top of my shrub breaking a few branches. While digging out the old post, they also damaged my drip line, but didn't notice it until my water bill went up and plants started dying. Price is reasonable, but you get what you pay for. Called to complain, but they didn't seem to care saying it's not our responsibility if damages occurs. Take your money elsewhere and find a company that cares about quality and customer satisfaction.

So now, a year + later, the crappy lumber that they used is warping to the point the the side yard gate (which they rebuilt twice) does not hold the latch because the main post twisted away from opposing piece. So this is now a security risk! God if I can help this company go bankrupt, let's get a move on.

We just had our fence replaced by C&J and I have to say the entire experience was amazing! Rodney, the estimator, was knowledgeable and professional. The guys showed up on time and were very courteous and tidy through the entire project. The fence and gates look great! I'm super happy we went with them. Great product and great pricing.

I would not recommend C & J Fencing. TL;DR: came in for a fence replacement job, left a messy looking work on a section of the fence, refused to do anything about it and then used that messy work as bait to come back for more money and finish the job. Left behind construction mess in my backyard in the process. This job was done in 2017. They came in to replace a long section of my fence which included some warranty work on a smaller section of it needing some stabilization repair (from their past work).

The section getting stabilization repair is very visible and I suppose they thought of giving it some creative decoration. The warranty section ended up with a zebra pattern look, with old fence boards and new boards alternating (see picture). When I spoke to the contractor, he said they ran out of new boards and had to get creative and use some of the old boards they were replacing.

I asked if they could, at least, reshuffle the boards and move the old boards to a section not too visible or restore how it looked like before they touched it, they said it was too late. I called their office, not at all helpful and refused to fix their mess. I was told this section was a warranty repair, only needing a post replaced/stabilized, however, their contractors damaged the fence while working on it and replaced some of the boards AND that I should be happy that they didn't charge me for the new boards installed.

I asked if they could restore it to the way it looked like before the damage they caused, this was refused as well. To fix their mess, they charged me full price for replacing the old boards with new ones including additional charges of applying sealant. They have a minimum fee to come onsite for a job, and this work was treated as a new job. They also left behind construction mess in my backyard after all this was done.

Another successful project with C&J! Shared an install with my neighbor, and added a couple of sections with gates at the front of our property. Worked with Ryan again - for the cost estimate - and he's a real pro. I requested the crew leader that installed my back fence in March 2019 - and they accommodated. Crew was on-time and did a great job. That's customer service! Highly recommend C&J.

Had an estimate done by Ryan! He's Very professional and made several suggestions for the fence we were doing. Pricing is great and if there is an issue it's taken care of in a timely manner. I highly suggest them and referred several people to them! Would use them again in The future!

Project for new fence took over 4 months to complete. They had to visit property multiple times, quality control was worst ever seen. They left tags on ends of boards showing, sharp nails sticking out, post for gate not square and even had some boards that split after first week. Would not recommend this shop. Frustrating to have to be around each time for a project that should have been done correctly the first week.

I want to express my highest praise to C & J Fencing for the professionalism of the firm and high quality of their crew on completing a fence replacement for my neighbor and me today. I am stunned by the 1 Star ratings and comments I see to the right of my entry. Those reviews are also in stark contrast with the 17 reviews that have been posted on our Next Door Neighborhood website, nearly all of them praising the company and its work.

They competed for our business on the basis of their satisfied customer base and competitive pricing and did not try to denigrate their competition, in fact even praising one competitor. Their crew has been equally diligent in building the straightest and sturdiest 110 feet of fence I have ever seen and have gone about their work focused on doing it with high quality.

From the first call it was nothing but a pleasure to work with you and your company thank you so much.

There are no words to express how shocked I am with the rudeness and disregard that I have received from Jessica and apparently the ownership of C&J! I run my own business and work with a lot of entrepreneurs and business owners and could never recommend this company and Jessica should be fired or reassigned to not be customer facing, she is rude and disrespectful!

There are no words to express my gratitude and awe for the superb customer service and installation of my two new fences. I called multiple companies to get quotes on replacing my old, falling apart wood fences with wrought iron fences.

Huge gap between new fence and new gate. Industry standard we were told? Really? By what standard should a golden retriever be able to get out because there's not enough fence to gate in order for the latch to work?
