BE AWARE SOLAR UNION DOESN'T STAND BY ITS WARRANTY. I had SolarUnion install 2 solar arrays - a 4kW on the main house and 3kW on my detached garage along with a roof replacement. Both of my solar arrays are having issues now. When I contacted solar union to warranty my ABB 4kW central inverter, they said the warranty is only good for 5 years and my system is about 7 years old.
It will cost me 3k to replace the 4kW central inverter. My garage roof and the 3kW solar array are about 5 to 6 years old, I noticed the roof is soft and dark watermarks can be seen on the structural support beam. I did contact SolarUnion and they dispatched their roofer for an inspection. I tried to contact Ivan, Renzo and his roofer for the last couple of days but I got no response. If they don't contact me back, I will have someone else to replace my garage roof and take legal action against them.

SolarUnion contacted me by email and phone after I clicked on some Solar Calculator offer on Next Door. I talked with the initial person and asked for an in-home consultation appointment, since I didn't know the exact construction of my roof and wanted confidence in the accuracy of the solar panel proposal and estimate. It was easy enough to arrange an in-home consultation appointment over email and I received confirmation and reminder emails for the day of my appointment as well as text with the name of who was coming (Dashile Miguele) However, a minute before the arranged in-home appointment time I received a phone call from Dashile saying that he doesn't do in-home appointment these days and wanted to just ask some questions and send me an estimate in a few days.
I explained again that I asked for an expected an in-home appointment. Rather than arrange again for another appointment, I found this unprofessional and called the Solar Union "24/7 Support Line" to complain and get off their list. First, the person who answered said OK and was about to hang up (without taking any info). I had to ask why they didn't ask for my info to get me off their system ("you just asked to be taken off the list").
I gave them my name and phone number, but they had no access to my record with SolarUnion ("we can only schedule appointments"). I also gave them my address, but have low confidence that the will actually follow-up and remove me from their records and not follow-up with me again.

We wanted to install 6kW solar panels and battery backup. SolarUnion wasn't the cheapest bid but the sales rep, Carlos, outlined our various options (panel vendors, battery sizes, etc) in a straightforward manner that I really appreciated. I was able to do my own research and select the best package for us. Our installation was smooth as well, aside from the expected electronic parts shortages and PG&E permit delays.
Our project manager, Itzel, stayed on top of all the moving pieces. Overall, it took us 4 months to get everything set up. The crew itself was actually on-site for less than 3 days during that period, but the permitting, scheduling, inspections and interconnection all take time. Keep that in mind as you plan your solar project. We had a great experience with SolarUnion. Give them a try!

I've just completed the formal PGE processes to begin feeding the electrical grid by the solar system installed by SolarUnion. I must say that the whole process was very satisfactory. I solicited a bid from Solar Union based on a friend's recommendation - SolarUnion installed his solar infrastucture as well. The whole process was amazing from the point of panel/inverter selection, and installation, through working with the local permit process and finally with the integration of the solar panel kwh capture and feed process into the PG&E system. I am very happy with my overall experience.

We hired Solar Union to update and expand our existing Solar Installation. They gave us an initial estimate for the new panels and inverter, which was accurate at the end of the project. In addition, they installed a new inverter on our existing array, so we could manage the entire installation as one system. The cost for that was quite reasonable.
A minor area of improvement would be communication and coordination between the office and the field installers. The main project was completed quickly and efficiently; they were on site when they said they would be and completed the installation very near when they said they would. After the installation was complete, the inspector requested a small change to the installation, nothing major, but it required disconnecting the house from power.
I asked the office to give me advance notice so I could plan for it, but the installers showed up a few days later with no warning. I was working online all day and could not go offline, so I declined. When I talked to the office, they apologized, and the next time, I was informed when the crew would be there and the cut over went fine. Not enough to take off a star. In short, Solar Union was MUCH less expensive than the company that installed our first system, was MUCH more transparent and reliable, and we are very satisfied.

We interviewed several solar companies and went with SU based upon the apparent knowledge base and focus of the sales team. the price was not the lowest bid, but we felt very comfortable with the size of the company and their years of experience. the entire process was highly professional, we felt that the team took a personal interest and helped us with all aspects of the install, then the monitoring portion. We ended up purchasing additional panels a year later, and are in the process of purchasing a backup whole house battery. I recommend solar union very highly.

I received a quote for a solar system from SolarUnion through EnergySage (which is a great site for comparing solar quotes!). The initial quote was competitive, so I scheduled an on-site visit with Carlos from the sales team. Carlos didn't show up as planned, but instead called, which wasn't a big deal. He then proceeded to send me an updated quote that was 25% higher in cost per watt, and included unnecessary changes to cloud the price change (e.g. an inverter with built-in breaker subpanel that was completely unnecessary for my installation).
When I questioned Carlos about the pricing changes he made up a bunch of excuses and attempted to blame it on my roofing material and other factors that were already part of the information available to SolarUnion when they made their original quote. When I asked to change the quote to include the originally spec'd parts he stopped responding to emails.
I can't speak to the quality of their installation work, but I would definitely avoid this company. The bait-and-switch tactics and otherwise dishonest sales process is very concerning. I've gone through with solar installations on two different homes, and this company is the worst one I have interacted with.

We researched several companies. Solar union was professional early on however. They are not comfortable with ground mounted units. Initial communication was very good however communication declined over the 3 month process. work was supposed to be completed in days however the project lasted over 3 months. I would not use them again for our needs because of the poor communication and follow through.

I received a quote from Solar Union through Energy Sage. When I spoke with Solar Union's representative "Tom" he quoted me a second proposal for a panel system with less panel capacity but which was over 150% more than their initial quote, and almost $2,000 more then their battery quote. Even the price per watt jumped almost by $0.70 per watt with no explanation.
When I asked about this dramatic price difference between Solar Union's first quote through Energy Sage, and his proposal, he told me he didn't know who at His own company prepared the Energy Sage quote and told me to "stop harping" on Solar Union's own quote. When I asked him for a proposal more in line with Solar Union's first quote, or any explanation on the price difference, he was uninterested in my business and hung up. What a waste of time.

I am buying a house and reached out to get the solar panels that are on the roof assessed to see if they need repairs or replacing. SolarUnion sent someone out and they didn't even have a ladder. They spent 0 time looking at the panels and immediately jumped into sale mode to try and convince me to buy their system and have them replace the current one.
I initially ignored the emails from them but then their agent called me and I told him very sternly that I wasn't interested and to not call me again. They have continued to contact me even after I have made it explicitly clear multiple times that I do not want them to contact me. I have filed a complaint with the FCC and I would highly suggest anyone experiencing the same tactics.

Solar Union did a great job for us. I did a lot of research and got multiple bids through Energy Sage. Nearly every company backed off with the complexities of our installation with a flat roof encumbered with multiple exhausts on top of a 3-level townhouse. Not Solar Union that patiently looked at my drawings to make some initial assessments and designs for my review.
The final system design optimized solar production while respecting the construction code. They took care of all permits and inspections with the city and PG&E and were amenable to the HOA demands.

After another period of no news, there were a few weeks of back-and-forth requests being made, including trimming back 3' of hedging near where the new panel would go and the tree next to it. The next week a call the evening before a contractor was scheduled to remove the downspout and flatten the ground, followed a few days later by another contractor visit because "PGE wants a concrete pad".
So at 8am the next morning they were hammer-drilling bolts into the concrete retaining wall to build forms for the concrete next to my bedroom window, and re-routed the downspout they had removed. Followed the next week by another visit because they now needed 4' of bush removal and concrete pad, and another week and finally "PGE signoff" with a promise to schedule the work sometime before the end of the week.
That was last week. I received an invoice (the very first one), but still have no idea if/when anyone is going to finish this job, and with the holidays happening now, will it be done in time to claim tax credits? This has gone on for more than a year now!

At first I didn't even want solar. Than a coworker of mine got solar and went with SolarUnion. So during the whole process I sat in to here everything that would happen and still could not believe it. So after a year of seeing his bill and mine I knew I needed to chance. at the time we were doing a remodel and talk to Randy and told him that I wanted to make the change but wasn't ready to pull the trigger.
Another year went by, the whole time Randy would check in just to see how my wife and kids were doing but never asked if I was ready to make the move and that made me feel awesome not being bugged over and over. When I call Randy and told him we were ready he said let's sit down and see if things will work for you guys. We installed a 11kwh system 24 panels and are so happy.
From Randy to the in-house crew that installed the system and the wonderful ladies in the office that answered all my crazy question. We love the system so much my cousin and best friend ended up going solar also. Great company and special shot out to Randy thanks again bud for everything.

We chose SolarUnion after getting quotes via EnergySage from 3 installers. SolarUnion wasn't the cheapest, but they had a great warranty and a knowledgeable team. We wanted a ground mounted array, that would require 250ft of trenching in our sloped backyard. The job was supposed to take 3 days, but once they started digging it was clear 3 days wouldn't be enough: the slope was too steep for the trencher to work, and there were too many roots.
The crew worked for 5 days with pick and axe, carefully digging the trench to avoid hurting our trees. Top notch job. The rest of the install seemed super easy, but that's because the crew knew what they were doing. We are very happy with our array

SolarUnion installed our solar panels back in 2019. I'm copying this review from the one I left on Yelp for convenience, but I'm happy to say that two years later we've still experienced no problems. SolarUnion was great to work with! Karissa was fantastic and clearly described the process, benefits, and performance expectations without any hard sell. SolarUnion was comparable in price (a little cheaper) than other quotes we received, but we were really sold on the customer service.
The energy consultant they sent out (Mark?) was also friendly and answered all of my questions. Once I approved the drawings, the permit only took a couple weeks and then the entire installation was done in a single day! I couldn't believe how quickly everything was completed. I left for work without solar and came home to ten fully installed panels without ever seeing a worker!
We've had the panels for about 9 months and everything is great. We had really big storms shortly after the installation and am happy to report no signs of leaks. I haven't compared the energy generated against SolarUnion's minimum guarantee (something it's competitors wouldn't explicitly state), but I'm generating more than I'm using and am happy with that. I recommend SolarUnion to anyone looking for a no-pressure, friendly, fast solar installation!

We had a great experience working with SolarUnion. After receiving multiple bids, we thought SolarUnion's was the most competitive and comprehensive. They took care of the permitting process which, though not fast, I was glad I didn't have to do. The install took a single day - the guys were incredibly efficient. The app that pairs with the panels offers more information than you could ever want. We've had to do no maintenance and received a refund from PG&E for producing more than we used. I definitely recommend them.

Update: I called the inspector and was told they don't know why 3 separate permits were pulled if changes were made. The appointments for green tag and final sign off was schedule on two separate permits. 2 of 3 permits had open status until I called the inspector to have it cleared up. After we got the updated permits and submitted to pge then I got pto.
I had to answer questions to pge even during the service upgrade. Taking measurements and tell them how the install would be. To be honest, if I didn't step in, the timeframe for pge would have been longer. You may think your doing your best, but I can tell you that it was not up to the standard. It maybe out of your hands, but your PM did not follow up with pge on a timely manner.
Every time I got a hold of pge rep I was able to get a update and address issues. Your approach of waiting for pge is the reason things took so long. However, went we signed the contract for solaredge, the draws come back with different equipment then what was on the contract. I had to tell you that it was wrong before Itzel changed it. Im not going to sit here and tell people how great it was, when it was not.
This review is what happened to me and a opinion as a customer who paid with my hard earned cash for a service I thought was not up to standard of diamond certified. And no matter what you say or try to justify would change my mind or this review. One of the worst experience I had ever had. In from San Francisco and it took 9 months from signing to completion.
During site visit and engineering, I ask if I need a service upgrade, they told me no. During signing they told me system will be installed in a month. Schedule constructions and the day before construction I called to confirm to only be told panels didn't arrive and will take months to come. Delayed for over 2 months waiting for panels. When it does arrive and installed. Was told I need a service upgrade that I didn't need in the beginning and a additional 3.5k for the upgrade.
Their excuse was we assumed you had 220 volt service and I only had 120 volt service and some how site visit and engineering miss that complete. Very shade business practice if you ask me to quote one price and tell you you don't need additional work and when they already installed the solar panels, the tell you they need more money because they thought I didn't need it. Upgrade took over 3 months to be complete.
If they told me in the beginning they could of upgraded the service panel as the solar panel was delayed. But no, horrible customer service and misleading the whole time. If I can start over I would not use them. Project manager Itzel was horrible to work with. I had to do all the leg work with PG&E. Scheduling takes 2-3 weeks. Why can't you just look at the calendar and just say we are booked up to 3 weeks.
Never give a straight answer. The drawings had multiple mistakes and they even sent me another properties drawings. Not sure how they are diamond certified. One of the biggest mistakes of my life hiring them. Avoid them if possible.

Solar Union has been great to work with! It started with a free estimate and meeting that was super informative. They turned out to be the lower bid so we went with them and, three years later, have no regrets (and much lower utility bills)! I haven't needed any service yet but if I have any experiences to add down the line, I will. I highly recommend solar panels to anyone looking for an investment that will pay for itself and then more.

There are lots of solar providers in our area. I did several hours of research to determine which companies I felt were best for me. After soliciting bids and talking to representatives I choose SolarUnion and could not be more satisfied. They offer excellent service, competitive pricing, knowledgable advice, quick customer service and really walked me through it step by step.
They acknowledged any delay and explained exactly what and when to expect. All permits, inspections, and any other bureaucratic paperwork was handled flawlessly. I followed several of their suggestions including one to upgrade my very old gas heater to a heat pump, which runs on 220v, and we had cooling for the first time ever and now heat. Family is thrilled.

I put solar panels on my home in San Francisco in 2018. Karissa Gallo was the agent I worked with. The whole process was smooth and relatively easy (The inspector had to come out twice but not a big deal). I have since sold my home and not only did I recouped my money on the solar, It actually increased the value by a very high percentage. Karissa was and is (I have called her about the other two homes I would like to have solar put in ) always available for any questions I have.
I referred her to two of my neighbors and they also got solar and are very happy about it. I love that solar is a win-win situation. It lowers the cost of electricity as well as helps the environment. As long as I keep getting the great service I am getting from Solar Union (Karissa & Diane) I will never go anywhere else. RH

We chose SolarUnion after requesting many estimates and, even beyond being a very competitive estimate, a few things set them apart. - SolarUnion also offered a 25 year production guarantee. This gave peace of mind of a guaranteed financial benefit in addition to the environmental benefits. - They were aware of and qualified us for two extra tax credits through GoSolarSF that other installers didn't factor in. - They also have been very responsive and helpful through the whole process, answering HOA questions, adjusting plans and timelines, and just easy to work with. I cannot recommend SolarUnion highly enough.

We chose SolarUnion in 2017/18 because the sales person charmed my husband who had resisted the idea of personal solar panels for several years. And as we looked into the product, we became convinced that the product being sold by Solar Union was top notch, with excellent technical services quaranteed. The entire installation process went smoothly. During the ensuing 3 years I needed technical assistance once and the problem was solved instantly. I recommend Solar Unionwithout reservation! I bought my San Francisco solar system from Solar Union in 2018. Karissa has been a perfect go to person. I have inquired on other properties I have to get additional solar systems and she has always replied right away. I was so happy, I referred three of my neighbors and they love their system as well. I have not bought a second system yet, but I do you plan on in the near future.

So my system is finally fully operational, all 14 panels.knock on wood! Honestly, I don't think I've been given the full truth, but I do believe several coincidental hardware AND software failures were involved. Hey, some small percentage of all machines are defective, I get that. But the manufacturer (Solar Edge) customer service was lousy, and Solar Union made many more screw-ups beyond installing hardware that didn't work (see my first review).
I give them credit for sticking with the system until it was working (although this seems a very low bar for getting credit); I think I'm being generous in this final review.

I'd say overall, I had a 5 star experience getting my solar panels installed with SolarUnion. Despite COVID delays and SF city inspection back and forth, I think they were generally organized and I knew what was going on the in project. And my solar panels have been working flawlessly for several months without issue and should pay themselves off in the expected timeframe.
I started the process about 9 months ago, with an intro conversation with Ivan, no pressure, but it was easily scheduled and he explained the solar panel system choices their company has made. There is still a fair amount of complexity in which system you choose. After moving forward and putting money down, I started working with a project manager who did a great job of being the point of contact and explaining things through the install. I'd say my only issue was once we had settled on a design (the placement of the panels on my roof), I had a small preference around spacing the panels out on the roof.
When the install crew showed up, they made last minute changes and installed the panels differently as 1 large block. This later caused issues with the city inspection, since the design didn't match what was installed. I got over the design difference and overall this seemed like the only mismatch. After the panels were installed, it took a few months for the inspection, getting PG&E to hook me up, and getting my rebates settled, but it was all pretty smooth in retrospect.

Loved the way they respected the COVID threat. They wore masks and where very professional in the way they handled this tough situation. After reviewing two other solar companies, I chose them based on their high Yelp rating and because every single person I talked was genuinely interested in me and in my project. The equipment they installed is rated as the best on the Market and the components were engineered to give the best performance over the life of the Solar Panels.
I can watch my solar production from an app. My solar production is also reported back to Solar Union for them to use in evaluating the production. The warranty was also a great selling point. If you are shopping solar companies make sure you compare warranty info We passed our county inspection with no issues to be resolved. That was a big relief. Great company. Loved working with them.

Going solar was something I wanted but didn't know if I can afford this project for a duplex property such as mine located in the outer sunset. I met with a few solar installers in the Bay Area and Solar Union was the only company that helps you qualify for rebates offered by San Francisco, in addition to financing options. I was able to replace the roof with a company Solar Union recommended. The whole project (roofing then solar installation) took 1 week and there were only minor findings (grounding) and resolved quickly. Thank you Solar Union team!

Solar Union was a pleasure to work with and I highly recommend them for your solar project. I am meticulous about researching all of my options and found that Solar Union provided a very competitive quote combined with great service and I appreciated that they are a local company that is very responsive. They are extremely professional and the whole process from proposal to install to rebates was smooth.

I had my previous Solar Panel System replaced by Solar Union and they really handled it well. I had decided to have a new roof put on before the panels were put in and Solar Union worked with the roofer. It all worked out wonderfully and the whole system is up and running to my expectations. Quite happy!

Great experience with Solar Union with planning, installation and follow up so far. We've had the system for close to a year now, and it has produced as promised. Worked with Itzel on installation and Erica assisted with the municipality rebate. They reviewed past energy usage, discussed plans for potential electric vehicle in the future, and recommended panel coverage to meet our needs. No electric vehicle, yet, but the extra capacity has helped with increased household use during COVID.

Well, they dropped off the face of the planet. Did something happen to this company? Their rep Karissa was very on top of it and responsive in her emails, then they sent someone out to take drone shots of our house and we were told we'd hear back in a few days. nada. I've emailed her several times asking what's going on, and if they're still interested in our project - no response.
What gives SolarUnion? Even if Karissa is no longer with your company, SOMEONE should have reached out to us. I'm happy to update this review if/when reasonable to do so.

I am very pleased with SolarUnion. After being courted by numerous Solar companies, I finally decided with SolarUnion for the following reasons: 1) They have a local office. 2) They didn't overwhelm me with phone call after phone call. 3) They were patient with me when I had to wait off on the project. 4) Their sales rep Karissa G. was very thorough and explained everything in layman terms, because buying solar is like buying insurance, not easy and definitely confusing. 5) my house has a flat roof, many Solar companies avoid working on these types of roofs, the fact that SolarUnion was one out of two companies that could do the work was a plus in my book.
And lastly, when I couldn't reach Karissa, the office manager and owner both reached out to me personally which is a very nice touch. Their prices were reasonable, the work was clean and the installers were very patient with my over crowded garage. The only issue I had was with the inspection, through no fault of SolarUnion or their installers.
The city inspectors had so many pre-requisites to finally consider the job as complete. After a few tweaks to the system, the city finally approved it! I finally went live soon there after. After the approval both the office manager and sales rep emailed and called to congratulate me on the approval. That was an extra added touch, although my friends would say of course they did that, after you spent money, that's the least they could do.
No one has to do any of that, and I have never had an installer or contractor ever call after the work was completed to just follow up in that fashion. So it was really nice that they asked. Overall I would definitely recommend SolarUnion if you are looking to install Solar on your property. I wished I did it sooner!
