There are few things in life more frustrating than being uncomfortable in our own living and working environments. Based on that simple premise, Robert Freson established HeatCool in 1956 and sought to bring comfort into our homes and offices. Throughout our history, HeatCool has remained a premier, family-owned and operated heating and cooling company.
We serve residential and light commercial customers with the highest level of reliability. That goes for the quality of the Bryant brand we offer as well as for the quality of service we provide. HeatCool understands that you have no desire for your equipment to fail, either in the thick of freezing winters or sweltering summers.

I used this company to inspect and troubleshoot some noise on a through the wall AC unit. The service technician John was very professional. He contacted me with expected arrival time, and was very respectful of the space. He took his time to examine the AC unit, then he explained in detail of how it worked, and showed me exactly where the problem was, and how he was able to best solve it. Great service and very good experience.

I needed replacement for the AC unit at my apartment. The technician came on time, gave a details description of his findings and options for me to consider. Following that, the work has been scheduled and it was completed at the set time. All the team was very professional. Customer service was very responsive and patient with all my questions. I would not hesitate to do business with them again in the future.

I worked with HeatCool at my business location for the last several years. When my condo also needed AC service I asked the custodial crew and they enthusiastically recommended HeatCool. Turns out they've been working in my building for many years and were familiar with the systems. An added bonus. They explained what was going on and the work to be done, billed promptly. There were no hidden costs. Professional and a delight to work with. We won't go anywhere else!

Not a professional nor reliable company. Our experience was terrible, we called them to install and air conditioner, they charged us more than any competitor, $129 just for an assessment, they did the assessment and after waiting for days with no answer and call them several times for the results of the assessment they provided very poor an vague information, excuses and told us they will call us back, we finally got enough and called them to cancel. Avoid them.

John came to inspect at the furnace, air conditioner, and water heaters. He was beyond knowledgable about everything. He was able to explain the problems and show us what was happening. He was honest and straightforward about everything. The price was more then fair to inspect everything. Theresa set up the appointment easily and was in communication the entire time. I would work with the company again in a second. Highly recommended.

A new GE HVAC unit that HeatCool installed went out after only 7 months. Phoned them; told them it was under warranty, scheduled a service appointment. Didn't show up on the appointed day; but apologized when I called, and re-scheduled for a week later. Again told them it was under warranty and sent warranty documentation to them. A service rep showed up (someone later told me it was the owner), asked me if it was under warranty, then told me I'd need to call GE.
So a week wasted. Luckily GE's service rep was able to come out in a couple of days, diagnosed the problem, ordered parts. When the GE rep came back to install the new parts, they discovered that foamcore from the original installation (done by HeatCool) was still wrapped around an area of the unit. Unbelievable. While, I am a big supporter of locally-owned businesses, the poor initial installation, and HeatCool's subsequent handling of the service calls left me with very mixed feelings about using them again.

Great experience with HeatCool Service! I highly recommend their work and would not hesitate to call on them again in the future for any HVAC needs. They were able to come out on short notice to take care of a furnace/AC issue that came up during a home inspection. John was professional, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to provide a thorough explanation of the issue and possible solutions. Very reasonably priced and excellent service!

I've been a HeatCool customer for 18 years. They've installed space-saving radiators in my kitchen, heating/cooling systems in the attic, hot water heaters, a boiler and chimney liner, and central air conditioning, in addition to doing annual fall/spring servicing of the heating and cooling systems. There's no one I trust more for fair, dependable, knowledgeable service. Thanks John!

When our furnace went out on a Sunday night in February, Northown charged us a $142 house call charge and proceeded to tell us our furnace needed to be replaced at an investment of $6600. We explained we were moving later this year and our house would be a tear down. They said a new furnace was all they could offer. We got a second opinion from HEAT COOL who ordered us a $600 part and gave us 2 space heaters to use in the interim while we waited 24 hours for the part to come in. HEAT COOL are our champs!

STAY AWAY FROM THEM! The secretary is very nice. But that is it. I have 2 wall units. Both needed to be cleaned, and one was leaking. I wasn't there when the technician, Bob, WHO IS ALSO THE OWNER (!) arrived. I instructed him to CALL ME from the unit to give me a diagnosis + quote to fix the leak. But he called me AFTER he had already left, so he didn't fix the leak!
When I went to the unit, I saw that he had cleaned my filthy filters IN MY KITCHEN SINK! He left a big clot of filth right next to the sink, and the drain was filled with more black filth and even bird feathers! HE TOTALLY CLOGGED MY SINK, and when I called to speak to him, he screamed at me before I could even get a word in. He admitted to cleaning the filters in the sink(!) but screamed at me that I he "loves these scapegoat phone calls, and he didn't clog anything, he didn't shove rags down the drain." He HUNG UP ON ME when I tried to speak. I will be filing a report with the BBB. ***STAY AWAY FROM THEM!****

I have gone to Heat Cool Service four times in the last ten years trying to service my window a/c's. Own several properties. Each time I paid $40-50 diagnostic fee and everytime they have told me it was unfixable, and I just left it there. The last time about two weeks ago I had a wall unit that was only 13 months old and out of warranty. Again I paid the fee, again they told me it was unfixable.
This time I said this is wrong and I called ABT, although it was $199 not only did they fix it but ran better than new. Heat and Cool is a rip off, and I will not go back. I think they should refund my money since the unit was fixable.

I am very excited to have my new Bryant central air conditioner. The workers who installed it were polite and efficient. During this very hot and humid spell I experienced water leaking about a week after installation. Joe R. came out right away. It turned out to be something amiss with my air handler instead.

My apartment needed some MAJOR work done and this company was outstanding in every way. John Freson, who runs his team of courteous and professional contractors, is extremely thorough. He explained every process clearly so that even a layman like myself could understand not only the work being done, but the costs attached. I was so impressed by his honesty and meticulousness that I went through him to get additional work (plumbing, wallpapering, etc.) done as he has a wide variety of contractors to do various jobs. Heat Cool gets my highest recommendation!

Way too pricey. They charged me over $1300 to replace a crappy wall unit and they charge $109 for the service call. I asked them to remove the service charge since I was already getting ripped-off and they cut $50 off. I told them that most places give free estimates and they wouldn't budge. Needless to say, not going to use them again and this review is what they get for being stubborn. Oh yeah, they charge 3% extra for using a credit card.

I gave Heat Cool a 5 star review last year and I am going to give them another one now. I had a window/wall unit that need replacing. I measured the window and unfortunately it was about 3/4 of an inch too narrow for a GE unit with a 25 inch sleave. The old unit was an LG. I check with Heat-Cool. They didn't carry LG, so I ordered one from Abt. Abt delivered the unit but said they could not install it because the unit was not in a sleave; the exterior was the actual chassis (!). Nightmare.
So it looked the like the thing was permanently mounted by the company that installed the new windows. Called the window company; nothing but delays and delays. So I called Heat-Cool. They were out in 3 days and as it turns out, the unit DID have a sleave. Abt is usually pretty good but when the going gets tough, you need some one who is an expert at what they do, and that would be John Jaime at Heat-Cool.

I've lived in my home a long time and seem to have experienced about every sort of disaster or problem you can imagine. When one of my air conditioners blew up at the start of the summer, I hung my head and thought "here I go again". As a bit of background, my air conditioner/heater units fit into the wall, can be hard to find, and seem to die in a mass protest (I have more of these puppies than you will believe).
The loss of one is a problem, an unexpected expense that could get worse if others go kamikaze, like usual. Knowing this, I asked an engineer from my building who he would recommend I use for help. Heat Cool was his answer. I am so glad I called. The thorough and conscientious service started with my initial call. I wanted to make a change in my setup.
We discussed a couple of possible scenarios which lead to distinctly different price points. THIS concern for accuracy in explanation is something I appreciate. I DO want to know if my bill could vary widely or if I may need a different type of service or additional electrical work. The absolute last thing I want is a surprise in the form of a higher bill.
My service and installation date was quick, there was no need for a long wait. My technicians were fast, knowledgeable and kept clean work areas. They wore shoe covers while in my home, vacuumed areas where there was debris, and made sure to dispose of all packaging and old parts. Heat Cool was all around a relief to work with! I have recommended them to neighbors and will use them when another of units needs service or bites the dust!

I live in a 2nd floor rehab condo in Chicago. This month I had HEATCOOL come out to do annual water heater cleaning and since my water heater is already 10 years old, I decided to replace it to prevent any water heater leak in the near future. The two foremen from HEATCOOL are very professional. They are like magicians.

Can not speak highly enough of Heat Cool Services after having my new furnace installed this past winter. John was most professional in giving me a detailed estimate which I compared with three other companies in the area and ended up choosing them because of the fair pricing and top quality products they use.

I asked Heat Cool to check my window unit last year. They wore watery shoes into my condo, checked my heater and declared they could not find any problems with it. The heater blows mostly cold air, so clearly it was not working. I had it checked by another company this year, and they immediately identified the problem and fixed it.

If I could give them no stars, I would. They are quick to get someone out, but each time they have come out (twice now) they have screwed up. The first time, they messed up my furnace's fan and now it reverberates. They also informed me (just like all the other companies) that I needed a $500 part replaced. I said I would wait for it to die. When I called again in February because my heat wouldn't stay on, they told me they thought I needed that $500 part replaced.
This is without actually coming out to diagnose anything. They came out and of course it was the part (really?). How would i know the difference anyway? I tried to tell the repair guy about the reverberation issue that started as a result of their last service call, but he was too busy packing up. They charged me almost $600 and the same problem cropped up a month later.
When I called to let them know my problem, I was told the supervisor was on vacation for the rest of the month. I asked for the next manager up and got put into a no name voicemail and never got a call back. Great customer service. I don't even want to call them again because I don't want deal with their lousy customer service and sub-par technician skills.
If you like being ripped off, give them a try! I'm going back to another company. They aren't in the neighborhood, but at least they know what they are doing and don't make me feel like I'm being ripped off.

Our heat stopped working this morning, so we needed to get somebody out today preferably to fix it. The last company we worked with (AllTemp, great company too!) was all booked till Friday, so they recommended HeatCool. HeatCool was able to get somebody over at noon. John was extremely polite and friendly from the minute he stepped in our door and put on his little plastic booties over his shoes.
He explained everything in detail (which I love), including showing me the exact 2 parts that were broken and needed to be replaced, and explaining what each part did in relation to the overall process of how the furnace and HVAC system works. There was no sneaky sales technique or upselling or swindling. John was honest, friendly, and showed me how to do a bunch of stuff on my own as a homeowner. I highly recommend HeatCool (ask for John!) and will definitely be calling them in the future.

My furnace was acting up yesterday and I panicked. I was not happy with last company who serviced the unit. So I did some research and Heat Cool was mentioned by a couple people as being honest and affordable - 2 traits hard to find! I called to make an appointment. The lady explained it was $118 to come out and do a diagnostic, but since I was a new customer, there was a $40 off coupon available on their site.
A few hours later John came out. He was quick to diagnose a couple things that were going on. Luckily it was nothing major just a little cleaning and adjusting. But I really liked the fact he was thorough and he explained everything he did and why he was doing it. He also pointed out a couple things I could do, to help maintain the unit. I was very pleased, he charged a very fair price, and I will use them again.

So we did get a response from HeatCool and I'm bumping them up to 2 stars solely for making an attempt to impress us with decent customer service. Seems like Bob is the only one who half-knows what's going on over there. Apparently, the fact that a recalled unit appeared in my apt. was a misunderstanding -- the installer who brought it in was unaware that this was a unit on recall.
They also assured us a tech from GE is at HeatCool right now making the necessary repairs to other defective units. As far as a solution, I could either 1)wait a week for GE to send a tech to fix the unit or 2)wait a week for HeatCool to replace my unit. Yeah. Thanks. I get it, mistakes are made. And I'm not sure other installers would have handled this any better.
But the bottom line is, HeatCool had heard about this recall back in April and wasn't able to prevent a related mistake in July. Now I know quality control is a joke to both GE and its distributors. It's disappointing that you can only get something done right by being skeptical and second-guessing everything you're told.
