I find it interesting, first of all, that most of the positive reviews are many years old. While Clausen electric is a good company, and they do good work, they are extremely overpriced. Not only that, but they give a bid for the work, and then the actual paperwork, once you agree to have the work done, is much more expensive than what was verbally quoted. Also, they overestimate how many hours a job will take, and then charge you for the hours that were estimated, not the actual hours that were used to complete the job. I am done using this company, and have found another company, equally reputable, who are less expensive and work with more integrity

Chris came to my house in a timely manner, was EXTREMELY professional & fixed my electrical issue. He also checked several other items that I didn't even know could cause a problem in future, just to make sure everything was in order. I'd highly recommend Clausen Electric and will definitely use them moving forward should the need arise.

I really like Mark Clausen. He personally did work for me 20+ years ago at my home in Los Gatos. That's why I called him to bring my kitchen up to code in my current home. The electrician that did the work really knew his stuff. It was tough work due to limited access in my kitchen (old house, tight spaces, bad roof line). My brother-in-law assisted for more than a half a day, including moving the dishwasher out of his way, and the electrician told me he would never have finished without my brother-in-law's help.
At day's end - and because he was trying to be helpful - the electrician moved the dishwasher back without using a moving blanket under it (as my brother-in-law did when he moved it out). Unfortunately, the electrician gouged my hardwood floor in the process. I also discovered after he left that I had no power in certain areas of my house, and that he had not clearly labeled the electrical panel (actually, what he wrote was indistinguishable).
I called Clausen Electric when I discovered all this (about 6:00 pm that evening), but they were closed. They did send the same electrician back the next day to fix the power problem and label the panel correctly. I informed Clausen Electric about the gouged floor, but they have been unresponsive about that - and they cashed my check. Overall, it was not the experience I expected, but the electrical work is now up to code.

Clausen Electric is excellent! Their expertise, professionalism, and the just-plain-niceness of their staff is second to none! I have had them out numerous times over the years at two different residences -- doing everything from installations to service -- and the work and entire process has been flawless each time. Every single electrician they've sent over the years has been superb.
I called Clausen this morning due to an urgent problem with a fixture (that the previous owner had installed) and they sent Chris out right away. Chris was very knowledgeable, professional, helpful, and super-nice, as well -- and he did a great job fixing the situation. I highly recommend Clausen Electric -- they are the only company I will ever call!

Had Clausen do some work for me so called them a second time when I needed emergency work done to fix an electrical short sparking with flames inside my home. And, they never called me back. Thought ignoring an existing customer is bad service. Of course now I'm a former customer who won't be using them again.

From bid, to scheduling to the work done, it all went without a hitch. My first job with them was adding new can lights and upgrading the old ones as well as adding new switches and fixture. It took longer than expected due to some special dimmer switch considerations with the particular fluorescent fixture I purchased. This was all done about a year ago.
More recently I had them do similar work, but with LED cans in another room and also added two new 50A circuits. I've been pleased with the working relationship I've built with the guys doing the work. They're friendly, prompt and knowledgeable.

They installed recessed ceiling lights in four rooms of our house, with all the wiring etc., plus they told me about CREE LED upgrade kits for existing incandescent recessed lights (cans). The LED lights are fantastic, and they did a perfect job of installing the upgrades and all our new lights. Friendly as well. I'll be using them some more.

WOW - want to feel like you're not important? want poor communication across both phone and email? want to get stood up at the last minute? Well then, fellow Yelper, Clausen Electrician is your place! Such a bad experience all round. I initially found Clausen because of their listing on a home automation website and wanted to book their smarthome guru, Ron - who now only exists in legend.
I was told that he was booked for the next 3 months and the nearest opening was in November. OK - great, he's the only game in town, so I'll wait for him. November it is. So, fast-forward past the three-month wait, and my approaching appointment. I had started a new job a few weeks before Ron was scheduled to come, so I called Clausen 10 days before to reschedule this appointment.
Their scheduler (Allison) whom I've exclusively dealt with, pushed me back another three weeks to Ron's next supposed day of availability. No problem. The week before this rescheduled appointment, I called her to confirm our rescheduled appointment, and to ask for an email address to which I could send a project plan to them for preparation. Yep - here's your lip service with the appointment being on the books, and she'll look for the email!
The Friday before the Tuesday appointment, I again called Clausen, to see if they've received my email and passed it onto Ron (cue Allison on the phone checking their AOL address while to find it buried, still unread and certainly not forwarded). Then, today, the day before my appointment, I get an email from Clausen cancelling my appointment because Ron was booked on a larger job.
This is the same large scale job that he's been booked on for months, and they could have easily seen this conflict coming. Even after I re-booked them with at the beginning of the month, they couldn't conceive that there would be a conflict for my next date - nor did they give me a heads-up until the day before, and sent an impersonal email (the first they've ever sent) to brush me off.
I responded negatively to this cancellation, as I waited 3-months for their specialist, only to get blown off by email the day before and promised another false availability date in another month. Allison tries to cover her tracks after reading my negative reaction to the initial cancellation, by saying she now moved some things around for a replacement to be available, and am expected to take at full-cost (which were substantial).
Reading some of the other reviews, some of the staff is better than others - so I'll not take the second (or third) stringers. No thanks. Find someone else. I hope Ron finds another electrical contractor to work for, as he sounds like a valuable resource trapped in an inept environment.

Not the cheapest but still one of the best electrical companies I found. They did work in my kitchen and bathroom. They know exactly what they are doing and never start giving you excuses as to why the job will cost more than the original estimate. Some of the staff is better than others, but you can depend on the quality of work for a fair price.
The word "economical" does not exist for electrical contractors. I use Clausen Electric for all my electrical needs, but just to keep them honest I always get two additional quotes anyway. October 2017 Update: I have attempted to schedule a couple of jobs at my rental and my house within the last couple of months and the first time I was told that they were booked out 3 months for estimates and this last time I called I was told that they are booked out till the end of the year and they are NOT scheduling any appointments for the rest of the year.
If you need electrical work done any time soon, this is definitely not the place to go to. I would say DON"T BOTHER TO EVEN CALL THEM because they are booked 3 months out and even then they will NOT schedule you an appointment. Go elsewhere.

These guys ROCK! I had them upgrade my electrical throughout my house. They replaced the bus, all of the breakers, the entire panel, the rotten power cable from the main line to the house, adding lighting my garage and removed and brought up to code all of the poor work the previous owner of my house did to it. These guys are PROS and did everything in one day.
Not only have I had ZERO problems since they did the work back in '04 or '05, but I also have more "juice" for new upgrades. My dad is a former building inspector and he told me it was some of the best work he's seen in years. These cats will get my business for anything else I need done in the future.
