Joe has been a professional fence builder for over 35 years. He started out working for some of the Fort Smith area fence companies, learning the tricks, honing his skills, and becoming a master of his craft. But being a grunt while the fat cats cashed all the checks got old, and Joe began dreaming of running his own fence company.
Fifteen years ago, he did just that. The Fence Man got in his truck and began building fences on his own part time. Meanwhile, he kept building them for the fat cats part time to keep the bills paid. Starting with little more than his skills and a beat up truck, Joe and his family have turned The Fence Man, LLC into a thriving local company that has worked all over western Arkansas.

I requested a quote from this company for repairs on my privacy fence. They responded very quickly to my quote request, scheduled an appt for the following week. They showed up on time for the quote and were very friendly. After she took a look around she was very upfront that I might be better served by just hiring a handyman. She provided the quote in a timely manner, but she made sure that I knew what would work best for me.
She didn't try to trick me into services I didn't need or to milk my wallet. Very kind, professional, and honest. I am hiring a handyman for my repairs, but if I ever need a new fence or major work I will absolutely be going through this company.

I was very impressed with the work done by the Fence Man Company. They were a few months out when I scheduled and hired them, but stayed in contact with me. They showed up a couple of weeks early, and worked non stop until it was finished. The communication with the builders was good, they were polite and professional, and their work is very solid. I'm really pleased with their work, and will use them again for any more fence work I may need.

Like other customers, we got our fence 4 months later, with no communication from the company. I understand there was a shortage of labor, and, because of the early summer tornado, huge demand. My fence was done to my satisfaction, but the lack of communication was a continual annoyance. As the fence was being built, no one ever called me to let me know when the fencers would be there, in spite of my request that they do so.
I had to call many times. They severed my Cox cable, and did not immediately inform me, leaving me scrambling to find out why (I thought I'd somehow neglected to pay my bill!). Because I didn't know, it took 2 days to get Internet service back. Finally and most seriously, they sent someone out who had Covid (at least, the company told me he'd tested positive, though he later denied it to my face, so I don't know the truth.
The person adamantly refuses vaccination.) I'm not happy with a company that rolls the dice with their customers. (I'm at risk.) The company claims that they do everything they can to follow guidelines, but unless the employees are vaccinated or regularly tested, it's clear they aren't doing everything. Plus, they don't tell you upfront they're sending non-vaccinated people out. If this is important to you, be warned.

The price for the fencing and installation was the only good thing I can say about my experience. If you don't mind paying half up front, waiting for months on end with no communication, these are your people. I had to practically beg to get my fence done after nearly 4 months. I had to call repeatedly with no one initiating communication with me until after I complained about the installation. It's worth the extra money to go with someone else rather than be left hanging for all that time.

They replaced my privacy fence, everything was good however had 2 broken sprinkler heads that I had to dig up and replace, also busted the main water line. Would have been good to let me know this on the front end. Really can't see how the guys didn't know, because the were buried in the dirt right below the surface. Called in to the company and got no reply.

Long story short. questionable ethics, not on time and unprofessional. Keep in mind they didn't get to do the work because they shot themselves in the foot right out of the gate. About 3 weeks ago a weather system came through town and took down a section of my Privacy fence. 4 posts had snapped below ground level at the concrete base. The fence panels were not damaged and were reusable.
This was a pretty simple diy fix except for the fact that the downed section ran right along the utility easement and I did not want to take the hit if I accidentally cut a power, cable or telephone line. After checking reviews on yelp I decided to call in the Fence Man. They didn't have any reviews good or bad but I took a chance. The Fence Man made an appointment to come out and check out the damage and write up an estimate for me.
Their estimator didn't show the first time and I had to call them back and set another appointment. He did show for the 2nd appointment and proceeded to tell ME what I wanted. I explained that I just wanted 4 posts replaced and the existing fence panels reattached. Again, he told me I didn't want to do that. I should replace the entire section, both posts AND panels.
I asked for justification and the estimator/sales person said that using the existing panels would cost more in labor than the price of new panels.uhh really? So I asked for an estimate to do it both ways and he AGAIN said to me. "You don't want to do that" you need new panels. He then gave me a verbal price for that work. Sooo. I told him that once I had an estimate in hand for both options I would make a decision.
He said he would send that to me when he got back to the office. The next day he contacted me and asked when they could start on the work. Told him that I still needed that estimate on a contractual document and what he sent me blew my mind. He texted a photo of a hand written estimate for 4 new posts and 3-8 foot sections of new panel. By this time I had already called Another outfit and they came out that day.
They looked at the fence and said "All you need is 4 new posts. We will remove the panels, dig out the old posts and replace them with new posts and reset the existing panels." I said that's exactly what I want and he gave me a verbal price on the spot with a promise to follow up with a written (signed) estimate. You can read my review of that company on yelp. The Fence man estimate was more than twice the price I eventually paid to have it done my way. In the future I know who I'll call. and it won't be the fence man.
