Sink, Faucet
Report
Leaky bathroom sinks or drains are not a laughing matter. The last thing you want to see when you are washing your hands or brushing your teeth is water that is supposed to be going down the drain taking a little detour. Leaky pipes or drains can be the start of a big plumbing problem if not fixed quickly. Drain issues don't resolve over time, they only get worse.
Water Heater
Report
Hot water heaters have gone from a luxury item to a necessity in today's American household. We often take hot water for granted, until we run out of it. We use hot water for washing dishes, washing clothes, bathing, and many other things around the house. We naturally assume it will always be available when we need it.

We had an exceptional experience with MItch the Plumber. The company accommodated a next day appointment and sent Bob, who arrived on time, understood our problem and fixed our leaky shower valve. Bob was pleasant and efficient. And the price was reasonable. Overall, this was as good an experience as one can ever expect.we'll use the company the next time we have a plumbing issue.

I had another plumbing company come out to snake a clogged pipe and disconnected my utility sink, said it couldn't be reconnected, and said I likely had a collapsed pipe. They then said it would be 3 weeks until they could fix it. I called Mitch that day and the staff on the phone were extremely helpful not only setting up an appointment days later to have the utility sink fixed (if possible) but also set up an appointment 2 days later to have the sink replaced if it were unable to be fixed (weeks before 2 other companies I talked to).
From there, she mentioned that Mitch couldn't televise down the line and helped coordinate setting up an appointment with another plumber to take care of televising if needed (I set up the appointment, she helped coordinate timing with Mitch). Michael (who was very pleasant, informative, and effective) showed up from Mitch's and was able to repair the utility sink connection in ~15 minutes, where the previous company said it wasn't possible after trying.
He was also very friendly. The third company that came out to TV the pipe ended up able to remove the blockage without any clay/sedement so televising wasn't necessary. I was able to cancel the utility sink replacement and TV, saving ~$600 + the headache of potentially needing to replace a collapsed pipe.

Called this company and a female answered and I told her my problem and she gave me a between 11am-1pm appointment and said the plumber would call before he came. No one called or ever showed up and I called the office and left a voicemail and called one more time and got the voicemail once again and I never heard from them again.

I used them to install a Delta single lever valve for my bathroom tub shower. I previously had a an older style 2-faucet and diverter set for the tub shower. They used a renovation plate which they said would cover any existing imperfections from the old faucet. It did not even though Mike and Alex both said it would. Proper measurements should have been taken beforehand.
There are gaps with the caulking on the plate. The new escutcheon ring didn't fit flush against the wall because it was touching the tile wall. This also could have been pre-measured beforehand since they knew which Delta trim I was going with. Mike's solution was to cut the bottom which now looks like someone bit off the end. Just not the professional experience that I was expecting for the $700 job.
They had set higher expectations. During the install there were 2 leaks down to the basement. Both being Mike's fault. It's disappointing and frustrating to see such a difference in Mike's attitude pre-sales and post job completion. He was more excuse-oriented and defensive on the day of the job.

Called and worked with Meredith who was amazing. She understood the plumbing problem I was describing instantly. This issue was complex to explain but easy to see. The connecting plumbing both to and from the well pressure water tank plumbing was bad overall, and partially leaking. My request was to have the whole linkage replaced. She knew exactly what I was talking about. Meredith dispatched Alex who came out right on time. Meredith kept me updated on the status of the repair technician's arrival trajectory as well. Alex came in and assessed the issue, and left to get the necessary parts, which Meredith explained to me would probably happen. Alex came back and got right to work professionally and efficiently. Alex performed the repair resulting in the most beautiful best case result I could have imagined. He worked like a professional artist, and I couldn't be happier with the result. See before and after below:

Today Alex and Jeremiah came out. They were on time. They looked over the tasks, working very smoothly and professionally. When the work was completed for the day, Alex organized the work to be completed on their next visit. Alex told me to confirm with Meredith so we would all be on the same page. Meredith is the main office, scheduler, person and is amazing. She figures out how long something will take, answers questions and keeps thing running smoothly. Very calm and good sense of humor.

Absolutely the very worst experience I have ever had with a plumber! When he arrived, he must have had a "chip on his shoulder". The job was to install a new Insinkerator hot water dispenser faucet. When he told us the job was done, there was a brand new connector that was not installed. When we questioned him as to why it was not installed, he became combative and told us that it was better to leave in the old connection.
He then installed the new connector and promptly told us that anything purchased from Menards "was junk" and the new faucet was now leaking. He reinstalled the older connector and it was now leaking worse. He said there was nothing else he could do and left. Very unprofessional! It also looks like these plumbers are independent. There is no plumbing business address for "Mitch the Plumber" on Jackson Road in Ann Arbor. I would stay away from them.

Fabulous from start to finish! Backed-up bathroom sink. Bc of pandemic, Tried unsuccessfully a few ways of fixing it myself. Called, and first amazing thing, a human being answered! Second, it was actually Mitch himself. Third, they scheduled someone to come to the house around noon the next day, today. Fourth, He arrived precisely at 12 o'clock noon!
Within 15 minutes he had not only fixed it, but had shown me how to handle it in the future. Very reasonable rate, within those 15 minutes he had cleaned up, I had paid and he had gone. Absolutely recommend this excellent and local family business!

Reading the reviews here, it seems that people are saying that Mitch The Plumber does great work but there are problems with communication. That was our experience. The two plumbers who did the work were amazing, working really hard and efficiently with no chitchat and perfect results, at a cost that didn't seem out of line. That's why they get five stars from me.
However the original phone call got a little garbled and the plumber who first arrived hadn't been given complete information (he had been told one job when there were two). He called for help, so it all got done. My strong suggestion is --- don't rely on a phone call if you talk to Mitch himself (I think the answering service is okay). Follow up with a complete and specific email. I think you'll be pleased.

Can't recommend. I called with 3 problems. 1. Tub spout needs replaced. 2. Bathroom sink faucet handle needs repaired (water won't shut off). 3. An entire bathroom has very low water pressure. The good notes first. They called back immediately on Friday afternoon and got me on the schedule for the following Monday. Very quick. Plumber showed up on time, but he did not seem to appreciate pleasantries.
But ok, that's fine, just fix my plumbing and we'll be good. 1. Showed him the tub spout, he looked at it for 5 seconds and said "I can't do that, I'm 70 years old, semi-retired, and have had several operations on my hand and shoulder." OK, let's look at number 2. 2. Showed him the bathroom faucet handle. He said "what kind of faucet is that?" (It's a standard bathroom sink faucet from a big box store, nothing exotic here, Delta or Moen or something undoubtedly). Looked at it for a moment and declared he doesn't have the parts for it and can't tell what brand it is but it probably came from Lowe's or Home Depot.
At this point I realized he wouldn't possibly be up for tackling an entire bathroom with no water pressure so we mutually agreed I should look to have my very basic plumbing needs met elsewhere. If you need something very simple done quickly, they *might* be able to help you. But when they opt out of a standard tub spout and bathroom faucet repair, it's hard to say what they *would* be up for. I'm not crazy about leaving bad reviews but I just had to warn you on this one.

I called Friday afternoon about 3:45 during a snowstorm and spoke directly to Mitch about a leak under the kitchen sink from a pipe break. He said he could have someone come out within an hour. True to his word, someone (Bob) appeared within an hour and quickly repaired the pipe, also going over what needed to be done there re: replacing pipes and installing new disposal. I also asked about a basement problem with the laundry sink and got the answers I needed. The price was reasonable, they did a good job. Great service when we needed it!

Timely installation at a fair price. I wanted a new water heater. They came by the next day and took care of it quickly and for less than the two other quotes I got. They replaced my water main valve quickly, and when a small leak came up, they responded within the hour. Mitch is highly available and gets issues resolved quickly. Sometimes not actively responsive (e.g., you might call and they'll get your message, but never respond to you unless they're ready to schedule something), particularly if you call the office number. Great service overall, highly recommended.

Had Mitch and his crew in earlier this week and they did great work for a reasonable price. First crew member showed up and assessed what he would need and his co-worker was waiting for his call to quickly get the material and head over. I've gotten screwed before by one-man crews charging me an hourly rate for them to go to Home Depot shopping for what they would need. Mitch was also able to give input on what else could get fixed with the plumbing and gave me a quote but was not high-pressure on needing to get it done, which is always appreciated.

Called Mitch this morning in regard to a toilet that was leaking and was told someone would be out to our home around 3:00 pm today (8/31/15). It's after 11:00 pm and not only did no one show up at our home, we didn't even deserve a phone call to say they couldn't make it today. I also called and left a message at approximately 4:45 pm to no avail.
This is not the first time we've called Mitch, he's always come out promptly, however, after this experience, it will be the last! I guess he's yet to learn your company is only as good as your reputation. My advice to anyone needing a plumber, call someone else.

This company was fantastic! They were prompt, courteous, always answered my concerns and phone calls and seemed to be fairly priced. My issues included some water in my basement and Mitch made a special trip to come out to explain the situation to the claims adjuster which made the whole process smooth and easy. I also got some great recommendations from the plumbers for the other work that needed to be done. I will definitely call Mitch the next time I have a plumbing issue and highly recommend him to you!

I had two experience with them so far. Once about 5 years ago, a guy came over to fix my sewer line, which was done well. But he said he had to get some part, and let the house, and charged me for his driving time. I had a bitter taste at that time. Then, I called them recently for water pressure tank replacement, and they promised to call on Monday to come out, but never communicated back to me.
It seems that there are quality gaps in different plummers working for Mitch. And it seems that they are either quite busy, or have a lot of turn over in that follow-up communication is weak. Therefore, it is difficult for me to recommend them for emergent plumbing issues due to their communication issues, and for non-emergent work, it is a bit of risk to have a better plumber to come out.

Another Ann Arbor plumber referred Mitch and his business. Our business called once and left a voicemail (in fairness, it was on New Year's day--- fully expected to leave a voicemail). On Friday, we called back again, and spoke to a person. This person promised to have a plumbing "technician" call us from the road and schedule an appointment to service our business' bathrooms.
Never received a call back. Nothing. We had to call and give the business to another plumber in town, who not only called us back, but scheduled an appointment and showed up promptly. Seems a shame that this business could not just call and say they were too busy to take our work.

Mitch is a busy guy and may be tough to get a hold of, but I have nothing but great things to say. He came out free of charge on *two* separate occasions to inspect a water heater at my rental property in Ann Arbor, and he was able to work with my renters to install a new hot water heater AND install a new faucet that was leaky. I didn't have to purchase the faucet in advance - he took care of everything for me and charged me a fair price. He was very respectful over the phone and with my renters - they actually told me that he was awesome! Grateful to have someone like Mitch looking over my home.

This review is for Mitch's call back policy. It's poor! I wish I could review his work, but I never got the chance! After leaving a detailed message during the work day about my non-emergency plumbing issue, I failed to receive a call back. I'm not sure if my problem was too small/ too big/not worth his time, but the least any contractor can do is return a call and say that they are too busy. Everybody wants to use the"small local guy", but if they don't do the simple things like returning messages, I'll just move on to the larger corporate companies!

Greatly exceeded my expectations! I spoke to Mitch a few weeks back since I suspected that I'd have to replace my 26 year old water heater sooner than later. We discussed my options and he estimated that it would cost between $750 and $900, depending on what option I selected. The water heater broke last Thursday night (way sooner than I had hoped!) and i was going away for the weekend, so I called Mitch back on Friday morning, expecting to wait until the following week for a replacement and at a higher cost than the original estimate. Mitch was not available, but Gary, another staff plumber, took my call.
He arranged to have his assistant come immediately to begin removing the old unit while he retrieved a new water heater. The new unit was installed within an two heaters. In addition, Gary replaced a feed valve that clearly needed to be replaced and customized the vent in my poorly designed utility room. Total cost was $835, much less than I had feared. I highly recommend Mitch the Plumber.

Needed to replace our battery operated backup pump system (which died some months ago) and after googling around, found their information. call them up, asked them how much the water based back-up system would cost, got the estimate and made the schedule. The plumbers came out, started working on the back-up and they noticed the old sump pump wasn't working properly, so had them replace the primary as well. unfortunately, on the water back-up system they were missing a part, so for this visit, they replaced my primary, they came back five days later and installed the back-up system. during the whole time, they were very professional, informed me of all the things they were doing and showed me how the new system worked. Now, I don't have to worry when it rains. I used to go downstairs whenever it rained, but no more!

We recently called Mitch the Plumber to discuss diagnosing and repairing a sump pump that was refusing to shut off. Talked to Mitch himself and he was very clear about the possible causes and options and on the range of cost - from $75 for a simple visit and fix to $375 for a new pump with installation and necessary parts. On top of this a $25 off Yelp discount was offered. Scheduling was flexible and they came out the next day to take a look, which we appreciated.
The technician that came out (not Mitch) was knowledgeable and through in his examination of the pump and informing us of our options. As another reviewer noted, he did use coarse language, which I found to be both unnecessary and unprofessional. In the end, we decided it was time for a new pump, which was installed the same day. The only issue was the invoice.
It did not include any details and the write up stated "Install new Sump Pump and Check Valve. $375. Including Yelp Coupon -$25. Total $375". I was not home at the time and my wife paid the full $375 amount. Perhaps there was some misunderstanding, as the technician who did the work was not the person I scheduled and approve the costs with. The good news is that when I spoke to Mitch a few days later, he agreed to the understanding we had and we received a check for the $25 in the mail within a few days. Overall, a good experience for the prompt and knowledgeable service, but I would have preferred not to go back and forth to get the cost to be what was previously agreed. At least the error was corrected quickly and without disagreements.
