Refinishing
Report
Refinishing is a great way to restore an old or extremely worn hardwood floor. It removes most stains and damage, and gives dull or discolored floors new life. If your floor has been subject to years of heavy foot traffic or you've fallen behind the recommended recoating schedule, refinishing is the most cost effective way to have a lackluster floor looking its very best.

Report
Installing hardwood on your stairs not only looks elegant, but also lasts much longer than carpet. I had 2 bedrooms to replace hardwood floors, our entire living area to resurface, and a spot to level in a small hallway. Kevin finally came out to my house to quote me after making it pretty hard to get a hold of him and schedule that visit. He left his card but no estimate after taking measurements and discussing the job, saying he had to look up the pricing on my flooring. Fine.
Well that was over a month ago. He never responded with any sort of follow up. I would call for the estimate and he would say he still has to find and quote the flooring. Fine. But he doesn't ever communicate after this and I'm left waiting in radio silence. I've moved on as it seems he doesn't want to help with my job. Fantastic way to do business (sarcasm).
Not sure how they're so popular if this is how they treat customers. If you don't want the job just say so instead of just never doing what you say you're going to do. Horrible look for this business. Zero communication, zero follow through, couldn't even get a quote. Seemed disinterested.

We just had our hardwood floors done by Carter's and we are really happy with the results. We had some significant repairs done and it all blended in beautifully with the rest of the floor. The workers are very friendly and polite. We highly recommend this company, we had another quote which was less but we chose to have years of experience and paid a little more.it was the right decision.

This one is a little tough. Kevin's prices were fair, but he left me to do my own transitions. They didn't leave a big enough expansion gap so I had to cut my own. Now it looks like some of the wood is separating. Also, found some pieces that should have been replaced. Don't expect the best customer service from Kevin, not the most pleasant guy.

I have used Carter Wood Floor company twice, each time they did an excellent job. First time they restored the original wood floors in my 1924 Spanish Colonial kitchen which turned out beautiful. This time they are restoring the vintage Red Oak in Living, dining and hallway. Well they did it again, it looks so beautiful I want to do the rest of my house. I highly recommend Carter's "they are the Best".

Editing my review. Floors are great but I'm upset how I got swindled with only a $175 discount when the workers ruined my vintage glass doors. I learned now that these doors are expensive. Just learn that the most basic doors with no glass cost $700.00 Carter is making no effort to make things right after he knowingly took advantage of my lack of knowledge on how much these doors really cost to replace.

Called on Thursday, talked to Kevin, a gentleman named Bill came out that day, gave me a very reasonable quote, in writing, which included the $ amount, it would be for each addition coat of varnish? They came on Monday, and started the job! I was called each morning, or told the day before, when they would be coming back. By Thursday, 3rd coat was put on, everything was cleaned up and my front room, dining room, and hall are free of carpet, and the difference between night and day! House built in 1957 and the floors turned out AMAZING! Pictures speak for themselves!

Do not listen to the reviews that negate these amazing professionals. I have had multiple jobs for the hardwood floor angela that comprise Carter Wood Floors and each time I have been utterly thrilled with the magic they do on my floors! I have a 1947 traditional midcentury ranch, and I'm super particular with the color I like my floors to be.
I hired them to install hardwood floors in my kitchen, laundry room, and powder room - which had previously been linoleum - to match my original hardwood floors that are throughout the rest of my house. The result is gorgeous. Everyone tried to warn me that I was being foolhardy to install wood, which can warp, in my kitchen. but I knew that the warmth and richness of the hardwood kitchen floors would be well worth the irritation of a little warping and I was right;)!
It looks gorgeous. We then recently added on an en-suite bathroom to my son's bedroom and needed to cut in a new wood threshold leading into the new bathroom, in addition to replacing new boards in the walk-in closet, and all the new pieces are beautifully and seamlessly incorporated into our existing 1947 hardwood floors. And then the stain color!
Beyond gorgeous! They had no easy task of matching exactly the existing hallway wood stain color, so in order to do that, I had Genaro (the color specialist) mix up a custom blend of stains to match the floors throughout the house. It's perfection. He showed me four little patches of different mixtures for me to choose which custom color blend matched the rest of the house the best and he and I decided on one.
Then we chose a super-clean and elegant-looking super-matte finishing varnish that is so gorgeous that I am now dying to sand, stain, and varnish the rest of the house with that same super-matte varnish! This color is warm and traditional and so elegant. I also had them stain the window-seat in my son's bedroom to match the floors exactly. I will include some photos. I'm so grateful to all of the artists within Carter Wood Floors who work so hard at their craft to create gorgeous floors with pride of workmanship.
You only need to have a little patience sometimes with getting ahold of Kevin, the owner, because when they're busy, they're busy. but they're so good that I'm willing to wait a little. We are now hiring them again to install hardwood floors in our new family room and I will add those photos when it's done.

After being turned down by 3 flooring companies ( can't refinish our floors because the engineered wood is too thin ) Carter came to our rescue and what they where able to do was amazing. Gone are the scratches, stains and wear and tear. What we have now is a 18 yr old floor that looks brand new! The wood grain is now radiant and the floor shines

My floor should be finished tomorrow but I'm on Yelp today so thought I'd give an early review! So far the floor looks amazing, better than expected. They worked so quickly and were the best price we found (we got 2 other quotes). My parents used them like 15 years ago and they were happy back then too. Seems like the people who work there are experts. Very happy we went with them to have our floor heater patched!

My husband and I are extremely pleased with Carter Wood Flooring. Kevin gave me an estimate after two companies told me that they could not refinish our floors bc they were too thin. Kevin was honest and transparent, and gave me a detailed understanding of our floors. There were boards that had screw holes in them, and he worked with us to keep as many boards as possible rather than try to replace everything.
We wanted to keep the OG floors while making it as functional as possible, which Kevin and his staff did a great job of. Kevin is extremely skilled at his profession. All in all my husband and I are very pleased with the refinished floors!

So satisfied of the quality of work of Kevin and his men in replacing the floors in my spare room. I also commend that his men showed up on time. Start time was 8 am and the guys were already waiting outside my house at 7:45 am. I just admire people who value the essence of time. And the quality of work - excellent. Pls. hire them.

Kevin Carter is a hot head who doesn't keep his promises. He did a floor for me in Mission Viejo, Left several bad spots, I made the mistake and paid him in full. he will not return my phone calls. I'm hoping he comes around but its been a month now. My client is very sad. I am going to have to hire someone to come in and clean up his mess. I would look for another contractor. This guy is as dishonest as they come.

Things APPEARED promising-- Owner gave me the requested quote and I chose him and his business, Carter Wood Floors, as they'd been in business for so long, even though I had a lesser quote with another also-experienced floor refinisher. In other words, I hired THIS owner, THIS company. Coordinated with Kevin AND my tenants [they had to be gone from the house for five days during the work].
All systems go, or so it seemed. I show up for the job on the appointed day, as does some guy who doesn't appear to even work for Carter Wood Floors! What tipped me off was his truck, and when I queried the fellow, he admitted that he knows Kevin and used to work with him decades ago and wasn't supposed to tell me. I immediately called Kevin because I had purposely hired HIS company and didn't appreciate his sub-contracting my job out--bringing in some guy he used to work with back in the day. Kevin told me I could send him away--but that all his other guys were on other jobs.
Believe me, I wanted to, but as my tenants had gone on a five-day trip JUST to get the floors redone, I was stuck and had to proceed. In the end, the floor was not adequately finished--not adequately protected. Kevin started telling me I had to pay for more layers of finish, then, adding to the cost of the job--which I did. However, these additional coats made no difference and there were still spaces between my wood parquet that weren't sealed enough with the finish.
He proceeds to tell me that in HIS house he'd done 9 or more coats or some such thing! And that I could "just" have them recoated when these tenants left in a year or two--at my expense, of course. I had my floors for 40 years prior with a tremendous finish--and this guy's telling me to get them finished again every other year? To make matters worse, I stupidly paid him the agreed to amount-- with his promise to make sure the floors were finished properly--any gaps filled in.
He came in, took a glance, said they'd be "fine, " and called me "ridiculous" in front of my tenants and husband, and left. Here we are, one year later, and my tenant just called me out to see how the wood is splintering, even with special care. Not enough of a protective coating.

I reach out to Carter Wood Floors to give me an estimate to repair two small areas of water damage. They came and quoted $900 for the work as we already have the flooring required to do the repair. This seemed fair so I said I'd like to go ahead and schedule the work to be done. I have called and texted over 5 times, each time being told they'll look at the schedule and call me back. If you can't be bothered with such a small job (which I totally understand) do me the curtesy of just saying so. Absolutely terrible customer service!

I am enclosing our check in the amount of $782.00 as full payment of the balance due for the refinishing of the wood floors in our Living Room and Dining Room/Family Room. The floors look great, and we appreciate not only your company's work, but also your courteous and professional staff. We definitely will call you again for future work.

Carter refinished our original floors in a 1918 craftsman home (not all the floors were that old, but some were). They did a pretty good job, the floors look good. They are good are replacing boards that are badly damaged but you won't get the same grain structure. We had several holes from old outlets that were repaired, you can tell the spots, but that's to be expected.
We also had two floor heater vents from the old furnace that were each about 5 sq ft that had to be re-floored. One they covered just fine, the other they didn't lay the sub-floor plywood at the right height and thus the area dips a bit. It's noticeable, even though the coloring and finish look good (and as mentioned before, the grain and color wasn't exactly the same but it was good enough for us. Carter Wood Floors is relative inexpensive all things considered (not cheap though), so I'm happy with the outcome.
