Stains
Report
Wood floor stains are a way to make your wood have the color or tint you need to match you house. Typically, the best wood to stain is red oak or white oak. These hardwoods give a great canvas to get the best uniform looking stain. However, A-MAX is able to stain any hardwood - no matter if refinishing or installing.

Hardwood needs love between hardwood flooring refinishes. Since we use high PH cleaner mixed with mechanical scrubbers and high powered vacuums, you get a very clean floor. Once the floor is super clean, we then buff the floor and get any small scratches out of the floor. We then add a fresh new coat of wood flooring finish.

I would have given these guys five stars because of the outstanding work Eli did on my kitchen/dining floor (it looks like new), but I had to downgrade them for the mess they left behind. Not from sanding (it's a wonderful dustless system), but from the cigarette butts they left in my driveway that weren't there the day before and from the blue painter's tape they left along the edges of the floor.
While the tape is a thoughtful addition (it protects the carpet from the sealant), they should have removed the tape before they dried the sealant. In my house, they could have done this because all the edges of the floor are accessible by carpeted areas. I thought I could remove the tape by pulling on it, but the edges were sealed to both the floor and the carpet.
I called to complain, but Eli couldn't come out for at least five days. I was anxious to get my kitchen back (it's expensive these days to eat out), so, after the required three days, I took an Exacto knife and had to scrape the blue bits from the edges of the floor and out of the carpet. It took this 71-year-old woman 2 1/2 hours on hands and knees to get out all the tape. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have taken that amount of time to finish the job.
So be sure to have them remove the tape before they leave. I emailed Tyson again and told him not to have Eli come out again, that I had taken care of the issue. I never got a response (a "thank you" would have been nice.). P.S. Just discovered another oversight. When we put the vent back in the floor, it doesn't want to sit flush. A bunch of floor sealant was allowed to run down into vent cavity and fill up the edges. My husband is now scraping out the excess with a chisel, so the vent will lie flush.

We used A-Max for a maintenance finish on our hardwood floor. The floor was about 6 years old, and the finish was looking a little worn. Tyson provided a competitive quote and was great to work with. Richard did an amazing job cleaning, buffing, and recoating the floor. He took extra time to fix a loose board and fill in some cracks with epoxy. The floor looks beautiful now. I would use A-max again.

We had water damage in our kitchen that necessitated removal of a large portion. A-Max came in and matched to our current flooring perfectly. They also replaced some water damaged flooring in the bathroom from years ago. Once replaced, they cleanly and quickly sanded down over 1100 ft^2 including a full wooden staircase. The natural water-based polyurethane gave such a nice clean look to the floors.
Everyone who sees them can't believe how amazing they look A-Max completed the job in ~4 days. The dust was much less than I expected. They were also more reasonable in price compared to 2 other quotes we received. The next time we get our floors refinished, we'll definitely be using A-Max again!

We had A-Max refinish our red oak original hardwood floors (not done since house built probably). Put off due to kids & large dogs. They sanded old varnish & stain off, sealed & applied a water-based topcoat. We have large wood baseboards that they were very careful around (didn't want to remove in fear they would break) and sanded around the spindles of stairs (so we wouldn't have to remove).
We had a few dark spots that they were able to get out and were able to sand down the warped boards (from previous water leaks). The dust & fumes were at a minimum. They had us check work before applying topcoats, to make sure we were happy & if we had questions. We are happy with the work and the end result.

Amaxx floor finishing came yesterday to fix the floor they had refinished a week ago. They sanded down the rough spots, re-did the transition pieces that were marred, smoothed the edges out, and put on the final coat that was left off. It now looks more like I expected the first time. When we called Tyson to complain about the work last week, he initially disagreed with us.
He said the roughness was within industry standards, the sanding swirls were normal, the damage to the transition pieces weren't that bad, we were too picky. you get the idea. When he realized that the final coat wasn't put on because Todd decided it wouldn't matter (?!?), Tyson began to agree with our complaints. (Or maybe it was because he snagged his sock on the rough edge?) Yes, they mostly fixed it, so they are capable.
On the positive side, the dustless process left very little mess, the odor was not bad, and they arrived on time. The final product is much better--though you can still easily see some sanding swirls and places where the final coat is streaked/ uneven/ thin. We also believe they used a matte finish instead of a satin this time, but I doubt they would be honest with me if I complained so I will just live with it.
I do appreciate them fixing it, but the initial poor work and the denials make it hard to recommend them. SO, if you want a crew that does it right the first time and won't lie to you, pick someone else.

A-Max recently installed cherry wood (in place of carpeting) to match our existing cherry wood floors. Eli, our floor specialist, also refinished the existing wood. He beautifully integrated the new floor with the old flooring and made the old cherry wood look completely brand new. There were deep gouges that I didn't think would ever disappear but he pulled it off.
His attention to detail was excellent and his communication was top notch. Everyone we worked with at the company was very friendly and informative. We are extremely happy with the outcome and would definitely recommend this company.

We moved into a new home with hardwood floors. The previous owners had a dog and were super tough on these floors. They were covered in scratches, staining and water damage throughout. A-Max came in and refinished the floors and did a water based finish. Our floors look brand new! Couldn't be happier. We would recommend A-Max to anyone who is looking to have their floors refinished.

Eli from Amax was exceptionally professional and talented. I have used Eli from Amax for two different homes in a year. The one house was hardwood floor instant. The second home they put vinyl floors thru the entire house. Would use them always for flooring Services: Sanding, Staining, Floor fitting

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. This company treated us like family from the free estimate all the way til when everything was done. They listened, they were considerate, fast, and efficient. Everything from the scheduling to the quote was flawless and exactly as they said it would go. We had glossy orange-ish hardwood floors that had been seriously messed up by some cats from the previous owners.
Once they came in the floors looked brand NEW! They took out out the orange tones and put down a matte finish and our floors couldn't be prettier. This is prettier than any floor I've ever seen and it's in my HOUSE! We love these guys. They were able to deliver the most amazing service I've received in my life. I'm looking for excuses to hire these guys just because it was such an amazing experience. And their prices are lower than what we got at other places. Unbelievable!

Gorgeous flooring! Amazing Craftsman! We have used A-Max two times now. Originally to refinish our maple flooring, the results were so beautiful we decided to add more wood flooring. A-Max then removed the living room and dining room carpet and replaced with new maple flooring. We are absolutely amazed how perfectly Bryan and Todd tied in the new flooring into the existing flooring (which is 20 years old). The transition is perfect! Everyone we worked with from Tyson (estimator) Bryan and Todd were professional, punctual and a pleasure to work with!

I contacted A-Max to give me an estimate on putting in hardwood flooring in my living room and then sanding and staining the existing wood floors in my kitchen and dining room. Eli and Daniel did my floors and they turned out great. They were professional but also very personable and fun. They were never late. in fact they got there very early each morning and always cleaned up and removed any debris at the end of the day. I would highly recommend them for any hardwood flooring needs.

We needed all of our existing hardwood floors refinished and a new bedroom floor installed in our 70 year old home. The team at A-Max exceeded our expectations in their professionalism, consideration and attention to detail with the high quality of work performed. Tyson was friendly, knowledgeable and prompt in answering all of our questions before the work began and the cost for the project was exactly the same as the quote we were given. Todd and Donnie did an amazing job in the refinishing and installation process and the new floor blends with the old beautifully. Our floors look fantastic and we are grateful for the positive experience with this company!

A-Max was absolutely great to work with! We were really uncertain about the whole process, as we loved the original wood floors, but they needed a complete refinishing. A-Max took the time to explain the process, let us know exactly what would be happening and the expected timeframe, and spent time trying to match the original. It turned out perfectly! The floors look beautiful. The guys at A-Max were reliable, professional, friendly, and exceeded our expectations. I would not hesitate to recommend them!

Tyson, Bryan, Jakob, Justin, and Todd did an amazing job. First time I've ever needed floor work and they blew us away. The knowledge and opinions helped us out so much. We couldn't be happier with the out come. They follow through with the promises they made. Our expectations were met and then some. Thanks again guys for all your hard work!

We hired them to lay new floor in the entry, hall and pantry to match my kitchen. They said my kitchen was a very odd 'mixed wood' floor and ordered both white and red oak to match it. As they were laying it, they weren't laying it in a patchwork pattern. Huge areas of just one color wood, and then next to it huge areas of a different color wood.
As they were laying it, I asked them to replace several boards and try to get the pattern like it was on the kitchen floor. The relatively new guy was nice enough, but the 20 yr vetran was miffed. Day 3 I had to ask the vet to redo the feathering-in job into the old floor as it was a stair step in just one inch lengths, different from the length boards on the original floor and SO obvious.
I hated the way the entire floor looked and was very frustrated but kept my containment. On the next day, they sanded the entire floor, including the new laid floor and the original finish off the old kitchen floor. That night I realized these were two different wood floors. My original floor was not mixed, it was white oak only. I called their lead and told him I thought there was no red oak in my original floor.
He was nice enough about it, and felt that the floor (pics) indeed looked bad, but not sure it was different wood and that it might look better and match after it was stained. So they spent another entire day, and stained it. Well, it still looked really bad, In fact worse. So the lead apologized, ordered new wood, and I was out another week waiting.
Even after the second wood got delivered in 2 days I still waited several days while they were doing someone else's floor. I was sitting in my bedroom with no front house/kitchen use for over 3.5 weeks during this entire job. I had also hired these guys because they had told me they had innovative dustless sanding. Because of this they never tarped.
All this work and them having to try to fix the first screw up left a huge, huge amount of wood shavings and dust all over everything. Now that they had to rip up this entire floor, I asked the lead (via phone) to have them bring tarps the next day for the 2nd floor ripping. They did, but didn't bring tape. The floor rip was started without the tarps up!
At lunch they got tape. because there was so much wood dust on walls it wouldn't stick, huge gaps hung down, Their tools were laying on my carpet. Again, while laying the new floor, the vetran was laying huge areas of same color values, I had many areas I didn't like but there was one area that was really bad, and out of all of the areas I didn't like I picked the worst one and asked them to replace two boards to try to bring in the lighter color and break up the huge color blob.
He told me he wasn't going to do it and called the lead. After much debate, the lead asked to talk to me and said, 'we will replace these two boards but thats it, nothing else.' ( I was later told by the new worker the veteran was color blind.) They rushed on the last part of the job, instead of coming the next day to stain the next layer after dry, they rushed it out, starting the stain at like 3pm and going into the eve.
All the supposed layers at one time. And that was that. After the job was done I see 4 areas where the natural stain color didn't "stick." Also huge 'holidays' where swatches in the middle of the kitchen floor of stain that was laid deeper, hence darker. The guys came back, and I was told they could do nothing about holidays. While doing the no-stick stain repair, they brought and used a different brand AND finish of stain. GOOD LORD h.e.l.p m.e.
The next day, after curing, I called, and the lead said the guys claimed 'it was good and matched perfect when they left.' I asked them to send out another person to fix it (and told them what stain color to bring to make the match work.) The second guy did a better job, and brought the right color stain, but it still really didn't lay down and stick right.
So now the patching where it was sanded out is bigger, looks worse than before they tried to fix it.(whitish) I should have taken a sharpie and tried to feather over some light brown to hide the spots when they were small. Now I can't. The holidays in the middle of the floor that I was told would get lighter over time, actually got DARKER over time. and boards now creak and shift all over the kitchen (which was 10 years rock solid with oil stain before) and in front of bedroom doors.
It has been a year laid so far. They also left the edge tape 'stained' onto the carpet edge I had to use an exacto to remove some carpet to get it off. Water base stain is paper thin and doesn't last, an absolute farce. Its touted everywhere as better. Its because it is not as toxic to lay for the worker as oil based. The WOOD with the water stain is now so "SOFT"and everything scratches it deeply, like dogs feet.where the dog walked on the other finish for 8 years with no feet nail gouges. I would avoid water based if possible.

I first found out of A-Max Hardwood via Instagram. I knew that I wanted some hardwood floors to replace the manufacture home carpet that I had moving in. I did some research on some of the other products and even asked some other clients in regards to pricing etc. I finally broke and messaged some of the managers of the idea I had. A wooden floor to be the centerpiece of what would later become a sports bar.
I have no idea that my idea of having a Dallas Cowboys Star logo on my floor would be possible. What commenced as just an idea and an exchange of words, soon came reality. Tyson cam in, gave me a quote and promised that I would not have any regrets - he and the rest of the team were excited about this. Once the project started, I was out of town due to being in military and having obligations out area.
The guys communicated with me via text messages and phone calls. By being able to receive photos with updates and messages, it was like I was their in person as this beautiful new floor made its way inside my house. I am extremely proud of this floor. I love it. Definitely recommend A-Max for your flooring projects. Any questions you have, they are assertive to respond. Thank you guys and I am extremely proud that I chose you guys to do this for me.

Hired for two homes, Eli is HANDS DOWN the best floor installation person I have ever worked with. Eli is resourceful, adaptable, timely, friendly, trustworthy, and does very quality work. I will hire Amax again without a doubt the next time around because of Eli and Tyson. I highly recommend this business and team.

I bought a house in Boise, and was not too fond of the carpet that was in the house. I found A-Max hardwood floors and fell in love with their work. I requested to get some hardwood flooring done that would include a Dallas Cowboys star - I didn't think it was possible, but these guys made the impossible. Possible. After a weeks work, I got exactly what I wanted.
Being Military, I wasn't able to be at home during the install, but thanks to social media and text message, I was updated with everything they were doing in my house and with my floors. Definitely a great team of individuals and extremely trustworthy in all aspects.

I own a duplex in Boise and one of the unit's previous tenants destroyed the hardwood floors. I did not even think they were repairable. Luckily i found this company and they helped me a lot. I live in California, so flying out there and dealing with stuff is difficult. The guys at A max went to the place took pictures and sent me a quote. I did fly out once, but only once!
After they were done, the floors looked like new. Very impressed by their responsiveness and quality of work. They were fair with their pricing and I will definitely be using them in the future! GREAT WORK!

I am so happy with my floors. And my hardwood floors are over 80 years old. The crew that came to my home went over and above service. I changed my mind on stain and color about 5 times. They tested colors for me. Let me check it out. And never blinked an eye. I can't wait to have them back for my up stairs. Thank you Matt, Kevin and Tyson. If I could attach a picture of my new floors I would.im so proud of them

We had hardwood floors in some of our house, but wanted to add it to other rooms. We also wanted to refinish all of the rooms. Tyson and the crew at A-Max Floors did a fantastic job. Everyone that we encountered was extremely professional. They showed up on time and finished when they said they would. They went the extra mile to mix the right amount of dark and light wood pieces to match our existing flooring. They offered us three different coating options for us to choose from. It was clear that they take pride in their work. I would recommend them in a heart beat.

My daughter had her hardwood floors stained and refinished. The floors in the kitchen which run directly next to the living area was not stain matched so there's a huge difference in colors. Someone truly professional who cares their work is top notch would have blended it. They also left a huge stain mark on top of a door (I don't know either.smh) and stain on white cupboards. I was hoping they would be good because we're installing hardwood in our Master Bedroom. Not now!

We had A Max refinish our floors last September. My boyfriend met with the gentlemen doing the work on day 2. There was brown finish all over our baseboards throughout our living room, dining room and kitchen. Also there was also scratches and scrapes in our freshly painted walls approximately one to two foot from the floor. The guys doing the work said it happens and there was nothing they could do to fix it and even said we should have waited to paint after they did the floors.
Well who could have predicted they would slop finish all over our baseboards and scrap the paint off our walls with their equipment. This project turned out to be more expensive than we had expected. We had just painted our entire home in May. Our baseboards are painted with a special type of paint that costs 70 bucks a gallon, plus we had to purchase more wall paint, rent a hotel room for us and our two dogs, put our cats in boarding and my boyfriend had to take three days off work.
It took him 4 days to sand the blobs of dry finish off all the baseboards, plaster some of the wall gouges and repaint the walls/baseboards. It was a headache! Now almost a year later our floor boards feel loose in some spots in the house and move and/or creek when they are stepped on. Not to mention the odd chunks of wood that were missed when the crew swept or vacuumed and eventually sealed into the finish. Very disappointed after spending over $1500.

Not to mention the odd chunks of wood that were missed when the crew swept or vacuumed and eventually sealed into the finish. Very disappointed after spending over $1500.

I had A-Max fix a scratch in a wood floor from moving a fridge improperly and they were able to make the scratch invisible by refinishing only a small section of the floor. They explained it might be visible after they finished but it looked great and they saved me a ton of money since we didn't have to refinish the entire house.

They seemed knowledgeable but the final result was horrible. We had 5 people come to give an opinion and all said it was deplorable. There is no final finish. Lap marks everywhere. Deep grooving near edges. They were loudly insistent it was perfect. Brown products on our beautiful 5 baseboard and woodwork. I filed a complaint at BBB and got our money back.
But we have to go thru it again and hire a painter. They sent out a guy to paint, he dabbed at the spots, it needs total painting to match. I found them very nice until things went wrong. Then very loud, pushy and rude. Avoid them.

Brad and Jason just completed refinishing the lovely parquet floors in our historical home near the depot. The original woodwork in the house, including ceiling, floors, and moldings reflect the 'signature' look of a 1930's Hummel design and is truly a stunning feature of this vintage home. Taking a leap of faith based in large part on reviews, we chose A-Max to rebreathe life into the floors.
And we are thrilled beyond measure with the results! Our floors now look absolutely gorgeous! Where years of wear had left vulnerable patches and dullness to the floors, the refinishing has restored them to looking like new again. Brad was able to color match the stain of the original woodwork almost perfectly and the resulting look is simply beautiful.
We are very, very pleased with their work and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone - particularly to those with delicate projects. Observations: They were punctual each day, maintained a clean work place, were respectful of our home and pets, and kept us informed of each stage of the process along the way.

I read all about this business on the Internet and on their website. They did a cool technique on my floors. Between the almost completely dustless sanding and the UV cured sealant (we were able to come back that evening and walk on the floor the next day), I was very impressed. The floor looks like new, and you can now see the wood grain which is no longer yellowed by Glitza. Why anyone would get a Glitza floor or not use A-Max Hardwood Floors to refinish their floors is unfathomable.
