Alamo Hardwoods does have a good selection of species however their storage situation is not ideal because half of it is upstairs accessed by a very narrow walkway. It's not the easiest way to shop for lumber. The customer service is very good, employees are friendly and helpful. The reason I won't be doing my business there any more is the pricing, they charge more than double what another local hardwood dealer charges. Alamo wants $20+ per BF for walnut (more for widths over 8) whereas I purchased some beautiful walnut at $9 per BF just down the road from Alamo and the shopping was easier because at the other place they bring the bundle to your truck on a forklift.
Price matters and when you can get the same product for MUCH less and it's more convenient - the decision is easy. I won't be shopping at Alamo as long as they continue to charge more than double than their competitor.

Being a general contractor, I routinely am having these guys cut me orders of baseboard and such. Every single time they get it done quickly and correctly. The only time we have ever had an issue it turned out to be the sample that I brought was the problem. Even then they took care of me. I cannot recommend them enough.

JR and the entire staff at Alamo hardwoods were amazing. They helped us pick out and design the perfect mantle. When I realized my Masonary work had sagged leaving a gap at the top they helped me figure out an apron of the same material to go around it and it turned out incredible. I would recommend JR not only for his experience and expertise but also his kind manner in handling customer service.

While I haven't made an order yet, they were extremely helpful and knowledgeable about woodworking and were able to recommend me not only products they offer, but suggestions from other companies as well. To me, this speaks volumes to a company's integrity, and that they value customers over profit. I would recommend them to anyone with a woodworking project or idea they want done.

I came to this Location looking for GREAT QUALITY and something different from a Standard Hardwood store and I was NOT disappointed. It's the Best place EVER! I was Assisted by Tony, he IS totally Helpful, Informative and has AWESOME Customer Service skills. He didn't rush me, he took his time and answered ALL my questions. He even gave me a crash course on the different types of woods, along with the history of each wood.
I'd Recommend this place to anyone and WILL definitely be going back. If you ever Shop here ask for Tony and he WILL definitely assist you. He doesn't push items on you or rush you. That type of Customer Service Skills are NOT around anymore in this world. OAN~ The Entrance to this Establishment is located on the Back side of the store. NOT the doors located my the intersection. Thought I'd share this for those that are disabled so one doesn't waste time and energy walking to the front of building.

I own a metal fabrication studio and do quite a few high end furniture pieces and we always go to Alamo Hardwoods. You could spend hours online trying to figure out what you need or buy it from some sketchy online wood place but after your wasted time and taking a chance on what UPS will do to it and you have no idea of the quality of the actual piece you get, do yourself a favor and head to these guys and get it right.
I trust my business and stake our reputation on how reliable this place is. They know wood and they know it masterfully the advise and tips we get from them have saved us many hours and tons of money. Ask for Jr and you will go home happy!

They are a little dismissive. I am not sure about their price but they are starting out with we only use solid wood and it is gonna be expensive. It does sound like I won't be able to afford it. They also stated that we might not be able to handle the construction at the very first email without knowing what my project is about.

Prices are VERY inflated. They charged me over double what wenge costs online and even compared to a store in Austin. My fault for not doing my homework, but hopefully you will do yours! I even asked a professional countertop company for a quote to build it (flat grain wenge - glued, finished, and routed) and they quoted less than the price of your wood!
