Called around midnight with urgent request. Was told the on-call technician would be given message. Followed up at 8am to discover they no longer service residential -- at least not in Raleigh -- but this doesn't really explain 1) why representative who answered the phone didn't know this fact and 2) why I had to follow up to discover why my request hadn't moved in 8 hours. It's totally fair if you no longer service residential, on-call representatives should know this.

A household member is waiting for a heart transplant. During a recent storm, our electric service was severed by a neighbors tree falling on our electric line that stretches from the road to our house. The force of the tree ripped the line, anchor and riser from our house, which had to be repaired before Duke Power could reconnect our service. Duke Power brought in trucks to restring their lines through the woods up to the house.
I called Starr Electric who came out same day, gave me an estimate. Next day, their repairman was here early and repaired the damage. The only problem was that when an inspection was called in, it was confused between the City of Raleigh inspections and Wake County inspections. Although our address is "Raleigh", we are out in the County, beyond the City Limits. But, the job was inspected next day with no problems (Wake Inspector said it was a great job) and Duke came out quickly to reconnect us.
Although it was a bad initial experience, Starr made it quick and less painless. I am grateful for their assistance and swift, understanding, professional, courteous, friendly response. And the job came in about $200 less than initial estimate, which was a huge plus. I've used Starr for similar storm damage repair in the past and have always had a good experience. I highly recommend them. Thanks.

We had a disconnect on our HVAC system melt when the weather was 8 degrees outside. Our home service company sent them a work request and I called within 5 minutes of it going through. I was told that the next available time they could get the service disconnect replaced (which is less than a 1 hour job) was 6 days away. So I explained politely that 6 days without heat with a 4 and 6 year old at home was too long, did they have anything sooner?
They responded "no" but you could find someone else. Overall, the operator was nice but with no flexibility or empathy towards this situation I would give the overall experience a 1 star.

My heater quit working, so I called for service through my PSNC service contract. They sent Starr. The electrician found the problem quickly, went and got the necessary part and installed it, and I have not had a problem since. He was friendly and courteous, and also gave me tips on choosing a filter. I am very pleased with the service!

Starr Service is THE BEST company. I have been using them for the past 3 years and every time I receive outstanding service. In emergent situations such as no heat, no hot water, pipes leaking they respond ASAP. The staff in the office is always friendly and quick to get a technician to my house. Technicians are always polite, quick to diagnose/fix the problem, all with reasonable pricing. I highly recommend Starr Service Co. without reservation!

The dreaded day came - my old HVAC unit finally quit. I called Starr Service Company despite the lack of good/recent reviews online. They came out promptly (albeit due to a cancelled appointment nearby, but still) - Johnny was extremely polite and professional; he delivered the bad news, which I had anticipated anyway. We made the first available installation appointment; they were very helpful in setting up financing and offered different price point equipment without pushing the most expensive kind.
When the install date came, Johnny and the other technician arrived right on time and got to work. The system was installed and my house has a cool breeze again! Starr definitely made the bitter, expensive pill much easier to swallow - they are polite, professional and friendly; I would warmly recommend them for any HVAC repairs and installations!

This company sent two technicians to our house on two separate days to fix our heater. After all of the time scheduling and being available and the money we paid them they still have not fixed our heat. It is the middle of January 50degrees inside. I called and spoke to the manager Robert who could not care less that we had no heat after his "professionals" had failed to even diagnose the problem with our unit after two visits. Having paid for something to get fixed that was not fixed was bad enough, but to add to it Robert was delighted to insist that they would not be coming back out and that as a member of their local community they really had no interest in getting our service repaired or even attempting to resolve the time and money we wasted on their "service". Wow, that moment you realize that the company on the other end of the line would rather let you freeze all winter long than do the job they came out to do.

Used Starr Service Company for my HVAC repair in October/November, 2011. Had no heat on one floor of my home. Called them on a Friday, soonest appt was the following Wednesday. On Wednesday the tech came, diagnosed the failure, and ordered the parts. In stock the next day, but Starr stated the next available oppty to install the parts was the following Wednesday. Tech showed up the following Wednesday - 4 hours late - didn't have one of the parts, and unable to get the parts as it was 5PM. Stated he'd come back Thursday with the parts.
Didn't show up. Told me he was swamped, would come Friday. Didn't make it on Friday either. Finally showed up Saturday and did the install. Over two weeks from start to finish. Poor communication. Poor scheduling. Do not recommend, choose a more reputable company.
