Started in the back of an Airstream trailer in 1998, Affordable Solar's roots trace back to a passion for renewable energy, strong community and having fun. With $52 million in revenue and over 100 employees, Affordable Solar has outgrown the Airstream, but remains committed to the principles on which the company was founded.
We remain committed to the idea that if it's not fun, it's work-and we prefer to have fun. We enjoy each other's company and have a culture with a strong appreciation of adventure. A normal conversation at Affordable Solar easily ranges from solar, to mountain biking, to hiking, to sailing and back to solar.

Affordable Solar came through in shining colors. After the initial sit down construction of my contact, I was informed via emails, professional phone calls, and documents, of the next stages of my installation process. Anna Style was the face of Affordable Solar and she was very friendly, easy to talk to and willing to take time to answer my every question.
I was given a professional binder of my contact along with material important to the process. Affordable Solar (Anna ) made everything seems so easy, and it was. Affordable Solar works with Nusenda Credit Union for financing which necessary for my installation. Upon closing my contact, Anna sat down with me to go over my tax return forms. I was so grateful she assisted with the stack of paperwork needed for New Mexico State. Lastly, I was surprised with a gift bag filled with goodies and a $250 gift card. Wow, what great Customer service. Now I have a great app in which I can monitor my panels. A easy video provided instruction for use too. Thank you Affordable Solar TJ

Affordable solar was fantastic to work with. Responsive to all questions and emails, and the job went relatively smoothly. The installers ran into a little bit of a delay on the install but worked overtime to make sure it was completed on time. It works well (PNM bill was $8 last month, down from $200+). I'm very happy.

Affordable Solar installed a 16-panel system on my roof 7 years ago. It was supposed to inspect annually but never did. It never answered calls. The system barely produces--35% was promised and 2% is what has been being delivered. It offered no warranties. I am now having to replace it. I consider the money I gave Affordable Solar totally wasted.

Salesman was not pushy but very informative and willing to take any questions or phone calls at anytime. Showed up on scheduled time. Field crew was very responsive and professional with a great team demeanor. I have already recommended them to several others and will continue to do so in the future. This was a big job and they stayed on top of things from the beginning and continue to do so to the end.

My sales representative, Anna Werner, has provided me with detailed information about my system and has been responsive to my questions. The installation crew was punctual and professional in their approach to the job. My system is now up and running in a three month time frame from beginning to end. I look forward to an ongoing relationship in the years to come.

Our experience with Affordable Solar was extremely positive. Anna and the sales team were prompt, responsive to questions, and clear with their communication. Install team was friendly, efficient and attentive to onsite idiosyncrasies. Paperwork, inspections and permitting were completed efficiently and in a timely fashion--all within estimated time frames. We're excited to have our system up and running. Thanks to the Affordable Solar Team!

We had our system installed just over a year ago. so, we've generated all our own power for just over a year now. the system design process (and hoa approval) was all handled in the background and went off without a hitch. the system cost was a bit more than other vendors, but we liked the non-pushy salesperson, and the system gave us a bit of room to grow. we also got a referral for bird (pigeon) control so we don't accumulate pigeon droppings under our panels. they also handled all the permits, paperwork, tax details, etc. all we had to do was sit back and watch it materialize. the system has been working great and we've banked prob'ly at least 8 months of energy now with pnm. the whole process was smooth and effortless and we're really happy with everything. thanks!

Does Affordable Solar engage in unethical and shady sales practices? - YES Does Affordable Solar regularly fire/lay-off over 70% of the install crews every year right before Christmas to save a few buck (less than 3% of the total payroll)? - YES So those folks laid off now have to apply for EBT and other publicly funded welfare programs in order to survive just because Affordable wanted to save a bit of money? - YES Affordable Solar might not punch holes through your roof like some of the others - Vivint - but their sale practices are just as predatory.
They are a local company but you can expect the kind of treatment you would get with a large, national remodeling company. If possible, treat them like a contractor - They get half to start and regular payouts after signposts have been achieved. Remember to hold that last payment until you have successfully passed inspections! As others have stated, once they have your money they will put you on the back burner. Good Luck!

HOMEOWNERS BEWARE! Talking about being Ethical this company is not ethical at all I work for another solar company Troy McGee went to drop off some information to my homeowner that was already in permitting process he was not authorized to get any information about permitting From the homeowner but since they claim to be in the right because it's public information they looked up their general permitting information send paperwork on the A lower kilowatt size system 97% offset and A lot of paperwork on campaigns of unfair and deceptive solar panel marketing I guess they didn't explain how they just went and pulled out information from permitting without advising the homeowner first. that's not deceptive at all isn't it?
They came at my Home Owner with a 3.49% interest rate when they were at a.99% why didn't you explain that? They gave him a lower price but higher interest and they brought down the system size quite a bit a little did they know my homeowner has plans to add refrigerated air in the future. you would have really put them in a bad situation Putting people on a lower offset anything under 100% is what's making it hard for people to trust the solar industry. also he claims to pay up to $1200 for the cancellation. why don't you cover the whole cancellation fee?
Because It's not cheap you would have made these people pay $5000 for canceling. so if you are going through the same situation as a homeowner please be aware talk to your advisor before canceling. these people really don't care about you as a homeowner they are just trying to do anything to make a quick buck.

I thoroughly enjoyed the entire process of having Affordable Solar design and install our solar system. Everyone was very professional and very conscientious of the fact that I am now working from home. The installation crew was great to explain what was going on and answering my questions. I came away from every interaction with the sense that I was a valued customer.

I worked with Anna Werner and was very pleased with the entire experience. From start to finish, all the steps were communicated clearly, they provided all the necessary paperwork in an organized and timely fashion, and were quick to replace the few clay tiles on the roof that were damaged during the install.

Affordable Solar was very easy to work with. They were recommend to me by a friend and we did some other research to make our decision and I am glad we did! When we called Anna Werner helped us out and was very responsive and helpful throughout the whole process. Anna was never pushy like some of the other solar companies around and was quick answer any of our questions. I highly recommend using Affordable Solar. Thank you Anna and all of the Affordable Solar team!

Anna was very responsive, well organized, thorough and a pleasure to work with. She readily answered texts and emails( even on the weekend -poor her) and she wasn't pushy as others have been. She had contractors for the electric panel I needed to upgrade and also the Bird Man's info to keep the pigeons from nesting under the panels. I appreciated working with her and I have recommended her and Affordable Solar to others.

We are very satisfied with our service and experience with Affordable Solar. Justin and his team were always prompt, professional, and responsive to us. The coordination with instillation, PNM, and city permits was flawless. When we needed an upgrade to the system, the process was seamless yet again! Highly recommend!

Rob Davis and the team at Affordable stood out from the other two companies we looked at for our solar system. The installation team was nothing short of amazing. They installed and tested our system in less than a day. While there were bumps in the road with approvals and inspections the end result is fantastic. My power bill last month which was extremely hot was $89 with on 21 days of solar power being generated. My first full month bill will be a great indication of what we can expect. Thank you Affordable.

Okay Affordable Solar; you're on notice! You call me daily for weeks and when I finally answer the call and speak to your salesperson to find out the details, and he doesn't like all my questions. RED FLAG #1 He doesn't like that I want to know how much it is. He doesn't like that I ask what makes them a better choice than the local companies HERE.
He doesn't like that I am exercising due diligence in my questioning him and his company. He wanted to set up an appointment and had many openings for tomorrow. I asked him more questions about the process and company and he said, "oh, you know what? All those appointments filled up. I don't want to do business with you. You're nasty." I responded, "well, then stop calling my house every day for the past month." His response? "Stop answering my calls." WTF?
Guess who got a blast of my whistle in his ear after THAT, and a "don't call me again."? Yep, I did it. If you get a call from 970-958-9851, be warned! Oh, and HE LIED! You will NEVER OWN THE SYSTEM! From their website: "What is a PPA (Power Purchase Agreement)? We put a solar system on your roof and sell you cheaper, clean electricity in exchange for the right to use your roof space.
Since we own the system, we get the benefit of all the tax credits. As it's our system, we also are responsible for all repairs, replacements, monitoring and insurance for the life of contract." http://www.thinkaffordablesolar.com/power-purchase-agreement/how-it-works/

I have a grid tie system with 22 panels installed. The installation crew was great. They were polite and didn't stop till the job was done. I mean they work hard all day. The sales and system designers were also a great group and where willing to do just about anything to ensure that you are happy and satisfied with your system.

Extremely happy with our solar installation and we love the myenlighten/envoy monitoring system that comes with it. Michelle and Kelsey were great. We ran into a small snag because of PNM which delayed the installation by about a month but affordable solar was diligent in getting the project back on track and accommodating us in scheduling the many inspections that needed to take place. We were under a time constraint in getting the system up and running by the end of December for tax purposes but they did it. Its great to see our electric bills so low now.

We completed our solar installation in May. We had several interruptions in the process due to trying to schedule other work (re-roofing) and the folks at Affordable Solar were very patient in working with us through those delays. The installation was amazingly quick. The process of working with PNM, the city, and all the other entities for getting the system approved is byzantine, but the good news is the system was up and running and producing power while most of that was going on.
Good customer communication throughout.we often got prompt email replies even on weekends. Over 2.2 MwH generated to date, and we just got our first $0.00 bill. Highly recommended!

I am very pleased with my residential solar installation by Affordable Solar, Inc. Since commissioning it 15 months ago, I have had a total of less than $50 in electric bills! AND, I have received more than that in refunds from the electric utility. The system began paying for itself in savings almost immediately!

Our installer for a residential 3.2kW solar power system (18 panels and 8 batteries) in Houston chose Xantrex equipment and sourced components from Affordable Solar. We were so impressed with the level of customer service and support provided by telephone, e-mail and overnight mail! We need more stars to rate how grateful we are for their responsiveness and attention to detail. Kudos to Derek Fannin and Taslima Khandaker at Affordable Solar!

The sales person, Dustin, did a great job before, during and after my system was installed. Everthing happened just as promised. The guys that installed my system were just great. Showed up on schedule. Finisehd on time and my system works great. Too bad I can only use one solar system! These guys are great.

Affordable Solar installed a 6000 watt system on our flat roof. The sales person let us know to expect a 4 to 6 week permitting process. Once the permitting was done, the installation took a day & a half. During the installation, I talked with the electricians who were very friendly & helpful in answering my last minute questions. When the city & PNM inspectors came by I asked them what their experience was with Affordable Solar and they were uniformly complementary. I would definitely recommend them.

I began my adventure to add a solar PV system to my home by working with [name withheld], a popular and well-established solar company in the area. I was asked to submit some preliminary information and about a week later received a single quote of $30K for 16 panels. I began asking questions concerning installation and tax benefits but never received any answers.
A friend told me about Affordable Solar and I decided to call them while I was patiently waiting for answers from the other company. The sales person was very professional and made an appointment to visit me the next day. Upon her arrival, she took measurements, provided me with brochures, and honestly answered all of my questions. I needed to replace the roof before I could install the solar panels (a common situation) and I asked if she knew any reputable contractors.
She did, and had an estimator call and schedule a meeting the very next day. In just two short days, I had all the information I needed to get started with my project. It was interesting to me that a single telephone call could dramatically change my solar buying experience. From a company that seemed to horde its information and prevent me from making a well-informed and rational decision to a company that was so eager to share its knowledge and enthusiasm that I was beginning to feel like an solar expert (I wasn't, but it felt like it). Companies can create an advantage over its consumers with secrecy and information hiding.
This advantage can then be leveraged against consumers in many different ways, including price. This was self-evident when I received four different quotes from Affordable Solar instead of the single, take it or leave it quote from the other company. The quotes varied in price due to the differences in types and number of PV panels used. I went with Afforadable's most expensive solution--$30K for 32 panels--twice the number of panels quoted by the other company. Affordable Solar had clearly beaten the other company on price, but what about the installation?
I was planning to install the system myself and decided to talk it over with them. I was then educated in the fine art of solar installation with all of its caveats and pitfalls clearly pointed out. Shocked at the difficulty, I decided to let Affordable Solar perform the installation. It turned out to be the smart choice. I was then contacted by the project manager to schedule the installation.
She clearly explained all of the intricate details of the project. She was very professional, courteous, and knowledgeable, and answered all of my questions. She was also so warm and friendly that I found myself calling her often throughout the entire project. When the installation day finally arrived, I was greeted by the field manager and his crew. Again, everyone was professional, knowledgeable, courteous, and friendly.
They eagerly answered all of my questions and even stopped working to explain to me exactly what they were doing. They never once insinuated that I might be disturbing them even though I must have distracted them a few times. The installation was completed in a day and a half. My new solar system has been running flawlessly for over two months and anyone who visits always comments on the meticulousness of the installation. Needless to say, I am very pleased with the overall success of this project.
More importantly, I am very happy with the sales, management, installation, workmanship, and ethics of this company. The entire staff is honest, friendly, and professional and I recommended them to everyone who will listen. You owe it to yourself and to your wallet to use this company for all of your solar needs.
