The San Diego Roofing Company name dates back to the 1930's, as one San Diego's pioneer specialty contractors. The California State License Board (CSLB) was established in 1929 as the "Contractors License Bureau", under the Department of Professional and Vocational Standards. San Diego Roofing Co was registered under this jurisdiction.
Most roofing jobs in the 1930's and 1940's were clay tile roofing and hot tar roofing jobs. Private homes in many of San Diego's growing and thriving communities were the mainstream of the business. Over the years, many different types of roofing methods and products have evolved.

Scott was honest and always responsive if I reached out with a question. Seems like they are super busy at the moment since it was estimated that my roof would take 2-3 days, but it ended up taking 5 days to complete because they had some other larger jobs that required more crew members. All in all it was a positive experience! Services: Skylight repair, Roof installation

I've waited a few months to write this review, and I must say nearly a year later I'm still completely satisfied with the roof San Diego Roofing installed. Scott, the first person from the company I met, was great. Previously, I've had a few bad experiences with other roofing companies, and it was nice to meet someone who could give me a professional estimate without pressure before committing.
His recommendations were tailored to the needs of my 100+ year old craftsman home in South Park. Each job is unique, and my home posed a number of design challenges which the roofing team was very good at collaborating with me to come up with creative solutions. My family and I love the new roof which has added so much style to our historic home. I recommend San Diego Roofing!

I have no leaks or any obvious issues, but my roof is getting older and I wanted to determine what should be done to extend the life of the roof, given that I intend to move in the next year or two. Scott showed up in time, and appeared to know what he was doing. He was very honest, and told me that I didn't need a new roof, but rather should just do some minor maintenance if it would give me piece and mind. Because San Diego roofing did not do this type of maintenance Scott was very kind and provided me with a name of a copy that does this kind of work.

The selling process was simple, straight-forward and honest. The demo teams arrived on time and efficiently removed my root without leaving any sort of residual mess. They quickly cleaned up after themselves and were courteous and accommodating and professional. The installation teams arrived on time and quickly installed the new roof without any worry or concern. All of the workers were friendly, helpful, and easy to communicate with. Highly recommend!

I contracted San Diego Roofing, Inc. to replace/repair the roof on my California ranch home in Linda Vista. It was estimated the job would take about 5 days The San Diego Roofing crew showed up on time and ready to work, removing old shingles some one layer and some two layers (which was a surprise, but completed in record time), also replaced the 2 whirly vents with Flush Mounted Vents.
Once the shingles were removed, they found quite a bit of "dry rot" along the edges which they replaced. We were so lucky to have Scott Donohue on the job and he kept me informed with pictures and updates throughout this process. At one point a rain storm was coming in, unexpected, later that night. The crew protected the house with a tarp and nothing was damaged. The whole crew worked diligently and above and beyond what was required to finish my roof even during 90 degree weather. I highly recommend San Diego Roofing, Inc.

As a San Diego Establishment, it's highly likely that you've driven by some of their strongest roofs in town! The expertise, professionalism, and skills to get the job done right are obvious priorities for these guys! I have several friends that chose this roofer for their homes as well and all had great experiences!

I placed a call on Monday 05/10/2021 and the phone rang over 20 times without an answer. Tried later in the day and I'm assuming an answering service took my message for an cost estimate in San Diego. Was told Paul or some one else would call me back. It is now 4:00 pm on Wednesday 05/12/2021 still with no call back. Somewhat disappointed no one called even to say where very busy and well call you in a day. To me as a small business man myself. That's just a complete loss of revenue and poor customer service and relations.

San Diego Roofing is one of the best companies in the city. Summer of 2015 we needed a new roof. Being new to San Diego, my wife and I called a handful of companies. Many came and provided estimates (some of them were just sales reps and had no idea what they were doing! Did they even know where the roof was? I wasn't so sure.). San Diego Roofing, Inc. knows roofs.
They are absolute professionals. Best in the business from top to bottom. I remember when Gary showed up to give an estimate. I had been working in the yard all day. When he reached out to shake my hand, I told him my hands were dirty. His response: "I'm a roofer!" We exchanged a hearty handshake, and much like Renee Zellweger in the movie Jerry Maguire, I thought: "you had me at hello!" Being the overly neurotic homeowner I am, a couple times over the years I felt a need to contact San Diego Roofing to ask about various things. Marcelo ALWAYS responded.
Most recently, after the heavy hail storm we received, my anxiety tendrils emerged yet again. I worried that the intensity of the hail might cause damage to our roof (now almost 6 years old). Marcelo responded within the hour to allay my concerns, and even offered to come by to do an inspection. And he did. Of course, being a roof installed by San Diego Roofing Inc, the roof is excellent.
Like new. If only I had another roof to install, I would hire them again. But I only have one house. Hopefully someone reading this review will contact San Diego Roofing, Inc. for a needed new roof. You are not only getting a roof, but a company, a company that remains loyal to its customers in a way rarely seen.

I strongly recommend this company for all your roofing needs. They have been punctual, courteous, precise and attentive during the entire phase of our roof replacement. From obtaining a quote with several options, temporarily tarping the roof to mitigate further damage, scheduling and actual repair/work, this company gets A+ for taking care of it's clients. WE have been extremely pleased with their service and their expertise shines through. Give them a call for any of your roofing needs.

Do not use this company. I cannot stress how unprofessional and horrible they were to work with. They put a roof on my house in San Diego, I was preparing to sell. A few days after the roof installation the seller's inspector came out and looked at the roof and noticed several things that were done incorrectly. I reached out to San Diego roofing to discuss my concerns, they responded with threats of small claims court and liens, as well as collection agency threats.
All that I wanted was some resolution on the questions that the inspector had. I have all of their texts and emails, and I'm happy to share them with you. Feel free to link my email through this posting here. I will show you their threatening emails and their texts along with the concerns that the roof inspector had. I will post them any place and anywhere I can to put the word out there so everybody knows NOT to use this company There are too many good roofing companies in San Diego to settle for this one. They are the absolute worst, and you will regret having them on your property for any reason.

I called San Diego Roofing in January during some really bad storms and rain, hoping they could send somebody right out to fix a bad leak coming into my kids bedroom. Luckily, Marcelo answered my call and said he would have Leo call me to setup an inspection ASAP. Within an hour Leo called and was out at my home the same day. He provided an extremely fair estimate to repair my torch down flat roof. Leo had his crew out and my roof repaired 3 days later. San Diego Roofing went above and beyond to get my roof repaired, communicated exactly what the issue was, and fixed it. I couldn't be happier with my experience with Leo and Marcelo and love the fact there are no longer any leaks in my kids room.

I had a leak in the roof and had a few roofing companies out to take a look at it and give an estimate. All companies didn't want to repair the leak, they wanted to replace the entire roof. I contacted San Diego Roofing INC, Leo gave me a call within a few hours, we scheduled a time for him to come out and have a look. Leo provided an estimate and scheduled Marco to come out and fix the leak. Both Leo and Marco were very professional and did a fantastic job. I'm very pleased with the work.

Entered into a contract with San Diego Roofing. Paid them a deposit of $500 up front as requested and gave them an additional $1,500 upon delivery of the materials for the job. We agreed to pay another $1,500 once they reached a certain point and then a final payment upon completion of the entire job. Before completing the section as agreed upon they stopped working and requested additional funds.
The church agreed to pay the additional funds to keep the project going however San Diego Roofing simply walked away from the job and said they were terminating the contract. Not only did they walk away but they took all the wood that we had purchased and all we received was about 40 feet of fascia installed on our church fellowship hall after having paid them $2,000. Fortunately JA&C Construction stepped up and took over the job.
They had to purchase additional materials, provided labor and completed the job within a week at no extra cost to the church. Not sure what's up with San Diego Roofing but 80 years in business obviously doesn't mean what it used to. Thank you JA&C Construction for taking over and doing a great job!

***SKETCHY BUSINESS ALERT***This company has the nerve to post that my review is an effort by a competitor to discredit them. I have to say that they do an excellent job of discrediting themselves, they do not need any help from a competitor. I posted an honest review pointing out that they had failed to respond to my inquiry. Rather than attempt to correct this issue, or God Forbid offering an apology, they have instead tried to discredit the complaint. Now, several years after the initial review was filed, they have the gall to try to say it is from a competitor.
I am a homeowner who wanted to get a quote on a roof repair/replacement, and San Diego Roofing failed to respond to my inquiry. PERIOD. Looking at the rest of their customer reviews I have to say I am deeply grateful that they ignored my inquiry.

We have used San Diego Roofing twice, once when our roof had become old enough to start leaking, and again when termite tenting damaged our roof tiles. The company does excellent work, cleans up well, and pushed through to get the job done in good time. Both the manager and the workers are friendly and reliable. The project manager Paul kept us informed every step of the way. We were happy to use them again, and gladly recommend them.

SD Roofing did a great job on my home. It is never a simple thing to perform major repairs on a old home. The home is 60 years old and needed a lot of repairs to the eaves and fascia along with new plywood sheathing. Marcelo did a great job keeping the crews moving and continually dropped by to make sure the project was on track and provide additional guidance as needed. I would definitely recommend SD Roofing for anyone needing repairs or whole roof replacement.

Unreliable! I phoned this company looking for an entire new roof. Spoke to Greg who was enthusiastic and promised me he would sort out all my roofing problems before the rainy season. He made a Saturday afternoon appointment with me for august 2 at 2 pm. Needless to say he never arrived. I waited in all afternoon and Greg didn't even have the decency or civility to phone me. A real case of 'Over promise and Zero delivery'

This is an actual account of my experience with San Diego Roofing over the course of the project and life of my roof thus far. Management--Speaking management on the rodent situation I hoped that SD roofing would act in good faith and be amenable to remedy the incomplete roofing work and the rodent issue. Instead they said they are only responsible for making sure a roof repels water.
As they stated "that's the roofs main functionality". After debating the topic I requested SD roofing to remedy the situation per their warranty and building code. At that point they started barking at me. Water--After the old shingles were pulled off, a protective plastic layer was not put up and it then rained heavily on our house causing water damage.
After plastic coverings were done it rained again and still more water came through. Cosmetics were never offered to be remedied. Dehumidifier machines had to be used for several days incurring a lot of electrical use. Flooding--We had a rain gutter that they broke when they took it off. New gutter not installed correctly. After the new gutter was installed we got heavy rain and large amounts of water were overflowing from a certain spot on the rain gutter.
This caused flooding on the side of my house and in my chicken coup. After an attempt to fix the gutter it rained again. This time my patio was flooded and I had to work hard to keep it from coming in to my house. They finally told me I needed a third downspout that I never had before. They couldn't resolve the gutter so instead they said I needed a new downspout.
They installed it but did not connect it to the drainage claiming they weren't responsible. Rodents-They did not seal the roofing in all areas. Multiple areas were left incomplete and large holes leading to the attic are present. The areas of concern aren't to code at all, flashing wasn't completed, roof paper exposed. Rats have moved in and are nesting. Pricing--My original quote was to have the top layer of shingles pulled off and replaced as the sheet underneath the top layer looked fine.
Once the top layer was off, they told me that my layer of sheeting, although physically fine was not nailed to code. The nails were not nailed in the right places per current code. The house was built in 1961 when such code didn't exist. They informed me they would not continue work and would literally leave the job site until I brought the sheeting to code.
I was basically forced to pay double and felt like I was bait and switched. This risk was not presented to me in the contract that I signed. Cleanup--The cleanup of roof debris was poor at best. They had to come out (only after my repeated complaints) several times to do the clean up well.

I have used Marcelo with San Diego Roofing for years. As a real estate professional, I frequently have the need for roof inspections as part of the buying inspection or disclosure process. Marcelo is very thorough and frank. He comes up with a variety of possibilities for each situation, allowing my clients to make wise choices on how to proceed. He has done repair for several of my clients, and they have been very satisfied with his work. Marcelo is extremely professional in his approach and very friendly as well. I highly recommend you use his services. Bob Wuertz Coldwell Banker, Mission Valley San Diego, CA

I bought my house 3 years ago and in the paperwork for appraisal is a note saying the roof is 8 years old and under a 20 year warranty. I had a small leak in the roof in my granny flat so I decided to call San Diego Roofing to come out to take a look under warranty. The first thing they ask me is "do you have a roof maintenance contact?" I say "of course not, I don't have any trees above my roof to gather debris so why would I?" So at that point the conversation gets awkward and I ask about the warranty and I give them the former owners name after I was told the warranty is transferable.
Well of course they have no record after I give them every piece of information possible and they suggest I contact the previous owner of the house to see if he still has it. So basically they don't stick by their warranties and their roofs obviously don't hold up will considering it's only been 10 years and I got a leak. Do yourself a favor and find another roofing company.
I will never use San Diego Roofing. Update 6-17-16 In Response to Marcelo R's comment from San Diego Roofing Marcello stated they never received a call from me but obviously San Diego Roofing already has a problem with keeping records as they have no info on file for the roof they put on my house either so why would anyone think you are capable of keeping a call record.
I would expect a business to keep records of their work, I've been in the construction industry for over 10 years and every company I have work for or with had a database of customer files and we would warranty our work if it was in the appropriate time frame. Marcello informed me he had a "house file". Well, I also have a house file but in this case I didnt own the house when the work was done so I had nothing to file other than the appraisal that included the roofing replacement and company information which I do have in my files. I will give them the benefit of the doubt for now and will contact Marcello but I have my doubts that they will rectify the situation.

Marcelo and his crew did and excellent job in replacing the roof of my home here in the University City area of San Diego. It was well finished around the corners and edges. It was windy and it rained on one day they were working. They covered the exposed areas very well. They were competitively priced as well. I highly recommend them!

So I just got off the phone with a worker. I asked for someone to come for a estimate. He asked where I lived and immediately said that he is "booked out all the way to August of next year for even a estimate". He couldn't tell me that before he asked where I lived? So I guess were I live matters on the money or better yet if you get service. SMH.

In July of 2012 when the flat rolled roof was leaking in several apartments in two buildings of 5 units each, I had an estimate from an established roofing company and they suggested removing the entire roof and building a new roof of rolled roofing material. The estimate was very high. I decided to get another estimate and I chose San Diego Roofing to give me their opinion.

I previously wrote a review about San Diego Roofing Inc. and made a hasty error in labeling these guys as a low quality and sub-par organization. I was currently at the time not in a very good mood since I had dealt with another roofing company that had a similar website. This was the actual company that I had a bad experience with and I would encourage anyone not to do service with these people: http://roofingspecialistsofsandiego.com/ As of San Diego Roofing Inc, I have not had tried these guys out yet but I am sure they are more than likely to be a great company. My apologies to San Diego Roofing Inc. for the bad review.
