Engelsma Heating & Cooling is a family owned company with 30 years' experience serving residential customers in Grand Rapids and the surrounding region, including the suburbs of Walker, Wyoming, Jenison, Allendale, Comstock Park, Kentwood and more. Ted Engelsma started the business in 1984, and turned over management of the company to his son, Tim, in 2011.
Ted still works "part-time" at Engelsma Heating & Cooling, though Tim says that amounts to about 40 hours per week. "That's part-time for my dad." Tim began working with his father since he was 12, and took on a regular job with the company after high school.

It doesn't take long when living in Michigan to learn about enduring winters on the west side of the state. Yet while you yearn in January for the hot summer days of July, come summer, you wouldn't mind just a touch of winter. Engelsma won't make it snow in your home, but we can install Bryant air conditioners to fend off the heat so you can enjoy those summer days that much more.

Could not have asked for a better experience with Engelsma Heating and AC. I've had Schaafsma out to my home prior to this and was quoted completely unfair prices in the past. This morning at 10 AM, my entire system shut down. I called Schaafsma, as they were the only company I knew that serviced Bryant units. They quoted me a very high service call price and couldn't come out until very late this evening.
I did some research and called Engelsma. Tim was out on a call in my area and was at my home within 20 minutes of my phone call. Within 30 minutes of arrival, my system was diagnosed, repaired, and up and running. The charge for the parts, labor, and service call combined was less than Schaafsma's service call. I WILL be using Engelsma for all service going forward! A++++++

Winter 2017: They installed all HVAC in our new Engelsma Home. Now when I requested service I keep getting bumped off the schedule. They have not followed up with me to reschedule. September 2017: Same scenario, Called for service, they refuse to just schedule an appointment, instead.be home after 4. Get a Email.can't make it.be home after 1:30.no show again and not even an email/phone call or anything.
I came home from work early 2 days in a row so I could be here for them. This is the most un-professional company that I have run across and they are an embarrassment to the Engelsma name. Do not use this company!

They installed their Engelsma HVAC into our Engelsma Home. It's impossible to get service. They will schedule say between and 4 then never show. They will call and leave a message that there were emergency they have to tend to. After playing phone tag multiple times then I give up. While walking at Sparta Airport during normal business hours you will see one of their trucks at the airport. They are not fixing or installing.they are playing with their airplane. Go elswhere.

Engelsma Heating & Air Conditioning installed our split system heat/central air units almost 20 years ago. I've only had to call 1 time in all these years when the furnace stopped working. And it was a minor issue and the charge was less than $50 for the service call and the part. I wouldn't consider using anyone other than Engelsma. You can't go wrong with them. They are honest, fair, caring individuals who make up an incredibly worthy business for any homeowner to choose. I cannot say enough good things about them!

I should have written this review earlier. My Bryant furnace started acting up in the middle of winter 2 years ago on a Sunday. I cringed when this happened because I know service calls can kill you on weekends let alone a Sunday. I had a bit of an idea what might be wrong so I called the 1st Bryant Contractor on the Bryant website. Whoever was on call gave me the run around about getting the part and that it will take him a bit of time because he lives out of town.
So I called Engelsma bc they were also listed in the Bryant website. Tim said he had the part and can be by in 30 min. He told me what it would cost which was much less than what the other outfit quoted me. After 30 min or less he had my furnace going again. Based on this experience I highly recommend them. My impression was that they were not out to get me and getting me back on service was their priority.
I think they are honest and will not do unnecessary work. Engelsma should be a model for all heating contractors for the way they do business. My system is almost 20 years old and am planning on replacing it soon. I will definitely give Engelsma a call for an estimate.

Our AC quit working and the company that installed our HVAC came out and said we needed a whole new system because ours was at the end of its lifetime. We asked Engelsma instead and they came out, cleaned out our compressor unit, topped up the charge a little bit and said it was good as new, and that it wasn't anywhere near old enough to need replacing. They gave us some good maintenance tips and charged us just a hundred bucks and change, instead of seven thousand the other place wanted. And it's run like a top ever since.

Engelsma Heating & Cooling took excellent care of us! Our furnace had gone late on a Friday. We called them for the parts and they called us back right away. The gentleman we spoke with had already gone home for the day but, was willing to meet us to help us get things back up and running. Excellent service. Excellent price. Worth your first call!

Our AC went out the night before Grand Rapids was predicted to hit 100+. The technician arrived at 9:30 AM (less than fifteen minutes after being called as he was on this side of town) and quickly diagnosed and replaced the capacitor. Then he stayed to do a quick inspection of the AC and top off the coolant. Our AC is now running fine on the hottest day in 75 years and the cost for the repair was less than any estimate I've found online for this replacement. I will definitely be using Engelsma again for any heating and cooling needs.
