HeedeLand has been serving the greater Sacramento area for over twenty years. The company was started when the owner, Marty Heede went back to finish his last year of college in the early 1990's. Needing a part-time job while going back to college, he started maintaining the landscapes of rental properties throughout the Sacramento and Elk Grove areas.
After receiving his degree from Sacramento State, he decided to go full time with the business. As the landscape maintenance side of the business grew so did the demand for additional landscape services. Seeing the customers' need for larger landscape and renovation projects, Marty Heede applied for and acquired his landscape contractor's license in 1996.

We couldn't be more pleased that we switched all of our landscape care to Heedeland. We'd had long-term problems with keeping the yard well-groomed and water properly scheduled. All of those issues disappeared when we turned care over to Marty and his crew. Almost every week we notice when they have trimmed our plantings and kept the yard looking great and every once in a while, a crew member will stop by to "just check on things." I've seen some reviews with concerns about charging to get an estimate. I was happy to pay that to connect with a deeply professional company. If you want it done correctly, call Marty!

"Marty and his crew have installed several projects our landscape design company has drawn. The clients have been happy with the workmanship. The crew is professional, honest, on time, thorough, with excellent craftsmanship. Marty returns calls in a timely manner, answers questions clearly as well treats clients with respect. I have been in the landscape industry for over forty years in many capacities. I would highly recommend this company to provide a five star landscape installation. "

The owner is dishonest and a liar. His employees hit my wife and kids and didn't stop to see if they were ok. After calling the owner and speaking with him, he admitted to knowing who it was and what truck and trailer it was. The owner inspected his vehicle and said he couldn't see any damage on his trailer but admitted that the equipment must of been switched out already.
The owner then tried to tell me it was my wife's fault for hitting his vehicle. After explaining California state law to him and informing him it was his employees fault he then back tracked and said he couldn't confirm that his vehicle was in the area and I need to contact my insurance. I followed his recommendation and called my insurance company and he did the same thing with them.
Once he found out California state law and his employee was at fault he gave my insurance company his insurance company but gave them the wrong policy number. I wouldn't trust this company or owner.

Marty, his son Aaron, and the whole HeedeLand crew did a nice job for us. We requested a design that was economical, minimalist and a bit whimsical. It scored on all points. Marty visited three nurseries until he found bay laurels that were just the right height and shape. All tasks were done neatly and quietly, so the guys more than deserved brownies and popsicles.

We hired HeedeLand a professional landscape and maintenance company to rescue our overgrown yard. Our initial design was planned around saving water but we lacked information on the grow conditions and overall maintenance of the plants we had chosen. Mr Heede talked us through each and every plant, and had a designer on his crew make suggestions and improvements that are truly stunning.
In addition another of his crewmates built a structure to match our landscape design and improved and repaired the garden lights. Another crewmate replaced and organized the stepping stones to prevent falling, and finally the broken and inefficient drip system was completely removed and was replaced with a system that HeedeLand will watch test and fix as needed.
We collected 4 bids for the work that is now mostly done. The huge difference in those giving bids did not offer maintenance. Why pay for a new design and not want those who helped build the design to continue to adjust and maintain the design. The typical mow and blow crews you see around town cannot afford the time and attention needed to adjust drip lines, replace plants etc.
We learned the hard way on two occasions in 36 years that the single most important feature of a landscape design company is their commitment to maintenance. HeedeLand even did an emergency visit for me when we thought our dripline electronic switch was broken. How do you spell relief? HeedeLand

Marty was one of the few companies I called that actually called me back. I thought I needed some irrigation repairs, but after speaking with Marty I realized I could get by without it. I still had some sprinkler valve issues that I wanted addressed. I wanted all of the valves replaced, as well as the sprinkler heads since they are all 12 years old. Marty had a worker out the next day because another job got rescheduled.
The worker replaced all of my heads and valves and now my system is working like new again, and for a few hundred less than I had suspected I would have to pay (not based on their estimate, I had a number in my head before I started this project). I would use Heede again.

Marty Heede and his team were such a pleasure to work with on my backyard landscaping project! They were highly recommended and (by far) exceeded my expectations on service and delivery. During each step of the process, they took time to communicate with me and ensure I was pleased with outcome. My home architecture dictated a very modern landscaping concept and they worked some magic to make the small backyard space feel comfortable and relaxing without compromising the modern aesthetic.
The lighting system was impressive, as it included wifi controls and scheduling via my smartphone. Well done Heede Landscaping! I will recommend your service to all of my neighbors.

Marty at HeedeLand Landscaping just helped me fix my sprinklers that were refusing to turn on. It was literally the easiest, most generous experience. Thank you! If I ever need help with my sprinklers again, I know where to go! If anyone else is looking for help, I can vouch for HeedeLand Landscaping. I am a very grateful and happy customer!

I always check Yelp when I'm looking for a business of any kind so I like to let others who do the same know about my experience. I didn't actually use this company because they charge $75 just to come out and give you a bid. I contacted a lot of landscaping companies and they're the only ones who do that. But I gave them four stars because at least they called me back. About 50% of the other companies I contacted didn't.

I lost a good friend to cardiac arrest recently. He is survived by his wife, 4 month old daughter, 3 year old son, and 7 year old son. Their house needed yard work done and the family were busy with funeral arrangement. I reached out to the owner, Marty. Marty did not hesitate to send his crew out to help the family. I highly recommend this company. They truly care about the people in their community. Thank you Marty.

My wife and I contacted Marty for an estimate on some landscape work: mow curb, sprinkler repair and adjustment, new ground cover, 4 new plants and drip lines, and removal of old ground cover/weeds. This is the first time I've ever been charged for an estimate ($75), although I was assured that if we accepted his bid, it would be credited. Marty told me that it would be 12 weeks between the estimate and the work start date.
We do not have a palatial estate, so I even offered to go elsewhere if he and his crew were had too much going on to squeeze us in. He assured me it would be fine. Marty arrived for the scheduled appointment and we started talking about what my wife and I wanted to have done. He seemed rushed and generally disinterested in the entire process. He was out of there within 30 minutes.
The estimate was emailed later. Most of the quote was ridiculously overpriced. What he told us would be $300-$400 in sprinkler repairs turned out to be $1000, with a lot of work we did not ask to be performed. Along the same lines, we wanted to remove the brick border of our flower beds and clean all the old black bark that remained out of them. I wish I could show pictures here. it's not a very large space, and the bark wasn't 100% ground cover. Yet, the estimate was $1625, and again, he added in services that we did not request (Iike tree and shrub pruning).
When asked how the estimate would differ if we elected just to have the brick border and bark removed (like we asked), he said he would knock off $600. That's still over $1000 to what essentially boiled down to removing bark and about 80 bricks. It would be $650 to grind 3 stumps (none more than 14 diameter). Finally, for the mow curb, he told us up front that he would have to charge for at least 100', even though we only wanted about 50' poured in the front yard.
When I asked about doing the backyard as well, suddenly there were concerns about tree roots. For what I described in my first paragraph, it was about $4800 and that did not include the fees for putting our plants in the ground. With an estimate that covered a bunch of stuff we didn't want, and resulting prices that made me suspicious, I made up my mind not to work with this company.
It almost felt like a scam -- charge $75 for an estimate that is incredibly overblown, almost guaranteeing that we wouldn't accept the bid. I have no proof that this is his modus operandi, but we felt like we dodged a bullet by not hiring him.

I hired Heede Landscaping to pull some plants, clean up flower beds, add shredded redwood mulch to flower beds, add plants, and replace a drip system. First of all to get my cost down Marty and I decided that I could pull the old plants myself. Which I did. Well we must have had a miscommunication because he thought that meant I was going to clean the flower beds as well.
No problem, he tacked on an additional $75 to finish that work. They placed the new plants and mulch and the yard looked beautiful. Fast forward about a year. Problem #1 I'm not the first owner of my home. The previous owners placed that black plastic on the flower beds to prevent weeds. Well it was old and ripped and kind of pointless so I wanted all of it removed and any other old stuff pulled before placing mulch.
Well about a year later, some of the mulch shifted and I noticed there was still the black plastic. I checked other spots of the flower bed and they were ALL still there. They NEVER cleaned the flower beds like discussed. I emailed Marty and told him what I found and he refunded me $75. That's great, but now I have old junk under the new mulch.
Problem #2 They placed new plants and installed a new drip system. After a few months one of the plants died. I realize now after clearing the mulch that the drip system was watering dirt. It wasn't directed to the plant. They should've paid better attention to where the drips were directed because they installed it, right?!? Marty was very pleasant to deal with, but I probably wouldn't work with this company again. PS - this work was done in 2014. I thought I had written a review sooner, but I guess it didn't save.

Heede Landscape Co, Wow, your workers did an outstanding job! They were professional, very hard working, polite and conscientious, very wonderful in every way. The trees look fantastic. They did a perfect job of planting them. They took great care in their work and cleaned-up everything beautifully too.

Hi Marty, I just wanted to send you a quick note complimenting Heede Landscape Company on keeping our landscape looking so nice. We had friends over this weekend who commented on how immaculate our landscape looks every time they come over. We told them that HeedeLand maintains it and once again, they were impressed!

Dear Marty, Just a note to let you know I enjoyed doing business with you. The sod, sprinklers and drainage came out beautifully. I appreciate the extras - extra drains and extra driplines at the edge of the lawn that I was not expecting. I have had quite a bit of work done on my house and I must say your company tops the list in professionalism and a job well done.

HeedeLand did work at our property that was in need of major care. A front yard sprinker replacement, grading, major dead grass/weed/root cleanup, and sod was put in over a 2 day period. Marty came as scheduled to provide an estimate. We had 3 estimates for the work and HeedeLand was competitive. He took a look at the yard and we talked about options for addressing the various issues.
He was open to a request for pricing a battery operated timer and made recommendations. For the work itself, it was done quickly, carefully, and as planned. The crew was very polite and good about cleaning up and hauling all the refuse from the site. The yard looks great and we are very pleased. The estimate was the end price and we felt good about the overall experience. Highly recommended.

These guys do great work. We contacted him along with a few other local landscapers to get a quote to clean up our backyard and front yard, remove some ugly mulch and replace it with something nicer, add sod to an area that was just soil, plant some nice plants, put in some sprinklers, remove an old stump, plant a tree and clean up our front walkway with pavers or concrete. Marty showed up when he said he would (earlier, actually, after calling ahead to make sure it was okay).
We spent a lot of time asking him questions and taking up a ton of time, which he was very much okay with. He made good recommendations and his quote was competitive. He also quoted us based on square footage, which made it easy to understand where he was coming from and also made the conversation much easier when we decided to make a concrete walkway wider than we originally had wanted to (additional width x length x $/sq ft = additional cost, fully transparent).
We paid a deposit when we accepted his proposal and the balance on completion. During the actual work, his crew showed up at 7:30 each morning, asked whatever questions they needed to ask, and just got to work. Even after being paid in full Marty was very responsive to our questions and good about coming around for a few weeks afterward to make sure that the grass was growing, sprinklers were working like they were supposed to, etc. It has been about three weeks now and the job looks great. I would absolutely recommend Marty and his crew.

I have used Heede Landscaping on two different occasions (two different problems). In both instances, the work was done perfectly. The workers who came out were very professional and courteous. I received detailed explanations of what was wrong and shown how they would correct the problems, and after the work was done shown how the corrections worked. I would highly recommend Heede Landscaping - courteous, professional, and expert knowledge (what's not to like).

Marty is honest, on time, and a man of his words. Very good at taking care of his costumers and does great work. He did everything that was requested and when he left the job site, he had everything cleaned up. He even cleaned up the mess that the other contractors left behind. If you are looking for an honest contractor, Marty is your guy. I would use him again.

Mr. Heede is an expert in the landscaping business. We had patches of dead grass and he diagnosed the cause and then found a solution for it. His landscaping crew is hardworking and they get the job done. Mr. Heede has proven to be a man of his word. If you have a landscaping need, give him a call. You will not be disappointed! :
