In 1939, Johnnie Chuoke, Sr., began building homes in San Antonio in the area known as Terrell Hills. After years of growing with the local market, Mr. Chuoke, Sr. realized that to be competitive, he had to hold down his cost of materials. This was not easily done because during this time, the lumber mills had exclusive agreements to deal only with retail establishments.
Johnnie C., Sr. knew that the best way to hold down his materials cost and pass the savings along to his customer was to cut out the middleman and become to retail outlet. In 1944, Acme Lumber Centers, inc. was formed. As Acme Lumber Centers began to grow, and as Johnnie Chuoke, Jr. became involved in the business, the company began to focus on retailing its products to the communities which surrounded each store.

Thankful that they were able to help me by having 2 different items that big box stores didn't carry, also LOVE that they dont wear masks and arent blind sheep like many brainwashed people scared of the flu that masks dont protect from anyways. Great job not hindering your immune systems and breathing freely like we should! Happy to keep supporting this store and will see you all again soon! MASKS DONT WORK! STAY WOKE!

San Antonio is SO fortunate to have a place like Johnnie Chuoke's! Their line of merchandise is amazing and their staff is both skilled and So incredibly helpful! I relied on Paul's expertise in 3 different departments. He was knowledgeable in each one. So much better than a big box store where the help might be one job removed from dropping out of high school.
Truly an old style hardware store where there are many departments with pros in each one. I didn't even get to the gift department! Everyone needs to go to Johnnie Chuoke's at least once a week!

Trudy, Julie and the rest of the gift shop staff are so kind, they make you feel like family. Everything is beautifully decorated and the items they sell are unique and boutique style gifts. If you're in the area, it's a must, just seeing what they have and meeting the ladies will make it worth your time.
