I used Guardian Alarm for a house I owned for a year and a half. When I bought a new house and wanted to move, they refused to end my service stating I signed a three year contract and it would be over $900 to cancel. Admittedly, they got me with the fine print. BE WARY of the fine print so you don't end up like me! I will add this is not my only issue.
For my first three months of service I received incorrect statements and had to call each month to get this changed. Now, since I was forced to keep the service (I am now renting the house out and paying for this service for my tennants), I tried to update my billing address and there is no function to do so on the website or app. I submitted an online inquiry and there was no response after two weeks.
I had to call to update this and be on hold for a half an hour and then transfered to other departments to be on hold again. Then there is no ability to escalate to a manager about the lack of functionality in their website and app. No one will transfer me and no one will give me an option to leave a complaint about their lack of customer service. Rest assured, I will not be working with Guardian after the end of my contract. I've switched to ADT at my new place and the service is better.

I am not a customer, but I surely wouldn't want to be one with the customer service I have (not) received. I called and asked for a manager or supervisor to speak to about an outside issue with one of their employees. I was given the run around for about 1.5 weeks. I made multiple attempts to contact them and for them to respond to my request. There are 2 employees who feel the need to drive erratically on the expressway and put others lives in danger.
I've gotten a call from one of the managers. was told my concern was escalated. I'd be getting a call. 1 week went by. NOTHING, so I reached out again. same scenario. I'd be getting a call from a supervisor. 2 weeks go by. again had to reach out as still NOTHING. Week 3, I message the manager and ask for the supervisors information as obviously nothing being done is fair to me or others.
I get a call with a phone number to call them back and I did within a few minutes, as I drive for a job and just can't answer at a whim. And we now are on day 2 with no call back. I really want to just walk away from the situation, but I feel like it needs to be resolved on all ends! Maybe this will get the ball rolling? Maybe I'll post photos next

Absolutely impossible to cancel service. After 20+ years as a Guardian Alarm customer, I have been attempting to cancel service for the past 6 months. I have sent cancellation requests via U.S. Mail, email, and telephone. All attempts have fallen on deaf ears. They continue to send bills and are now threatening me with referral to a collection agency. Avoid this company at all costs. There are many alternatives that provide the same service at a fraction of the cost.

Very disappointed, I called and cancel after 9 years of service because I relocated. Three months later I received a bill for the last two months of no service and when I called to have the issue resolved they stated they did not have record of the call. They also acted as if they didn't have record of my new address which was on the bill sent.
In the end they still require that I pay two of the months. Why mess up a relation with a customer when it's obvious an issue occurred in the customer service department. Even though I no longer reside in Michigan I do have other investment properties there but I would definitely not be using Gardian Alarm to secure them.

Wow. My alarm when off today. Thank god it did as we would never known that they were not monitoring our home. Pressed panic buttons and yes tested fire monitor. Nothing happened? Scary. Do not put your life in the hands of this company. No longer the quality family run business as in past. So glad we found out this way. Please be careful.

I normally do not write negative reviews and prior to posting I wrote to Guardian to give them an opportunity to respond first - it has now been over a week. My company has been with guardian alarm for about 15 years. We were notified of a need to pay for an upgrade of equipment and at that time my staff sought out other comparative quotes for a system and monitoring.
The pricing we received were more appropriate and my staff gave Guardian the opportunity to offer a more competitive pricing. Unfortunately they were not able to. The other company installed the system and we called to cancel service and were told that we were required to give a 90 notice. I asked that since we had been with them for so long if this could be waived and was told "we understand that you may not recall, as it has been so long ago, but the original contract states that you are required to give 90 day notice".
I again requested this be waived for our loyalty and in the end 1 month was removed and we had to pay for 2 months. Is charging two months of service worth ruining 15 years of goodwill? This business does not appreciate long term loyalty. DO NOT USE THEIR SERVICE. UPDATE - Guardian reached out within 12 hours of this post, and actually two supervisors contacted me.
The first one seemed more concerned that they were receiving a negative comment then for the reason behind it. The second supervisor was much more sincere and her call was more in line with the type of response you would hope to receive.

Critical: Professionalism, Quality, Value Terrible service, hardware is/was constantly a headache, updates, sensor issues, terrible installation (broke drywall around power outlets) and I'm stuck in a contract that is pretty much worthless with expensive proprietary hardware. I can't believe I left simply safe.

My Family has had guardian alarm as their security system for their medical office and home for at least 20 years. Unfortunately, this business has failed to evolve with the times and has become obsolete. They appear to be more interested in making sure that they get paid for their monitoring but when actual help is needed they are often not available. Specifically, at our medical office we had a break-in because they cut the powerlines to the office.
Instead of calling to say that there was something abnormal - guardian alarm only called say they had a test failure which is most likely secondary to power fluctuation or phone service. However, they did not send anyone to check out the facilities to see if maybe there was an actual robbery taking place. I work out of town for the majority of the month- utilizing my skill as an ICU physicians to help systems overrun by COVID outbreaks.
They continued to charge for monitoring even though there was no actual monitoring done and then out right lied when stating that they were monitoring. I also discontinued the service after the break-in because why would you continue giving business to a system that didn't work-however they continue to keep charging me. When trying to have a conversation with the Supervisor about the situation-I was told that it is not their fault that monitoring went down and that it was up to me to wait for them to come out to fix the system which was not convenient at all because I am an ICU physician who is traveling during this time of the pandemic.
They gave me service hours between nine and five but could not tell me what time they would actually arrive however I had to be available within 30 minutes of them calling to be able to get service. It must be nice to have nine hours to just sit around and be at the whim of a service that is charging you for not doing their job. So here I am, with over $40,000 worth of damage from a robbery that was done during the " monitoring" that they stated they were doing.
It seems that they are more likely to provide you with reasons of why they should not call the police or other services during suspected robberies then to actually provide any meaningful service. It is a shame that this company used to be considered one of the best however now it is obvious to me why this company is now a relic of the past and hopefully will go bankrupt soon.
If you decide to stay with the service, you may as well just leave your doors open with a big welcome sign to intruders. Overall, the service, the customer service, and supervisors, the technicians, the quality of the product is poor in this day and age. I will be recommending all my medical colleagues to quickly change their service from Guardian alarm to anything else.

Worst customer service ever. Cheat you on billing. I even contacted the Presidents office and Brent Uhl the president direct on LinkedIn. No reply. If I could give less than one star I would. Their reply below said to contact them. Typical Guardian giving the customer a to-do. They have my contact info as I reached out to the president direct on Linked In. Customer # is 2136377

Un fortunately I feel people need to know the truth about Guardian Alarm. The salesman was excellent up front, installation was good, performance of their products and follow up with problems is the WORST! One of the components sounds like a Ninja Blender at times which requires the unit to be unplugged leaving my family vulnerable. I've made at least twelve phone calls and a bakers dozen or more texts as well.
I've asked for an itemized bill on numerous occasions, I e been promised that a manager would call me I don't know how many times and not one call ever from a manager. How ever I did get a text message from my salesman John Hillier stating he was going to lean my home if I didn't pay for the faulty equipment they refuse fix. I feel horrible writing this I'm a business owner myself but what gives with these guys?
I must admit every time I've called the people answering the phones are so nice and very professional. I think the owner needs to promote these people and make some decisions on the rest of their staff.

Go anywhere else for the services they sell. These folks are predators out to make a buck. Be ready for poor service on billing and hard sells on new equipment. Never again Guardian Alarm. Edited: Google review and FB comments are the best way to get a problem fixed. Voicemails and emails had no effect. Thank for for helping with my billing issue. My bill amount was reduced in half as it should be. Thanks. From one star to three.

Absolutely the worse service you can have. Got charged for service when there was no service even when there was a break in, which happened when the burglars cut the line and I just got a message from Guardian that they aren't getting a signal. Maybe that's because there is a robbery in process. Completely unprofessional on the telephone. Discontinuing service in my medical office along with home service. Terrible business. There's a reason that other services have been expanding and this one is going to continue to struggle. Wish I could give negative stars.

I've had a great relationship with Guardian for many years. They've provided excellent and reliable service. The only downside is that I purchased an expensive surveillance camera system and soon thereafter it stopped connecting to my smartphone. Guardian has not been helpful at all in reconnecting it or helping me reconnect it. That's uncharacteristically poor service from this otherwise customer friendly company.

After being a loyal customer for almost 15 years and having both a residential and commercial accounts, I was told there wasn't any way they could cancel my account without 30 days notice so I had to pay an additional month at their extremely high rates. In addition, I have continued to get text alerts for the arming and disarming of a business that I sold a year ago.
I have called 5x so far reach time being told that the issue is resolved. I'm currently on hold again waiting for support. Based on their own tech support not being able to resolve this and the lack of customer appreciation, I no longer recommend Guardian Alarm.

I am giving 1 star as I have to give this minimum. First Hugh Adams came to the location the same day I contact couple other vendors. He was the third vendor who came in. I told him the cheapest quote I received and he told me he can beat that quote. And he gave me price which was about $40 cheaper for installation and about $5 cheaper for monthly monitoring fees.
I didn't look into too much details and signed their online agreement that he sent in which he listed wrong prices. When I objected to that and sent him competitor agreement, he told me he can't do anything about it. Never ever go with this sales rep and this company as they promise you something and deliver something else.

Be careful they, do not always tell the truth. I moved from one unit in our building to another and they told me the contract would be the same. No change. No new contract. Turns out when I asked when the contract would end, as our business was changing, they told me that my contract started when I moved to the new unit; not when I first moved into the building. They had lied to me. Make sure you pin them down and get everything in writing, which I did not do. I relied on the person's verbal assurance.

I signed a 3 year monitoring agreement that included a video doorbell, wifi connected so I could get rid of my landline and an app that allowed me to raise and lower my garage door. The doorbell camera also records (for 30 seconds) any movement within a certain distance from it. My new rate is very reasonable and the monitoring service is good. Unfortunately, when I inquired about further continuous loop video monitoring, they said that option is not available via the existing doorbell nor with anything new.
So I'm stuck with this system for 2 more years with no option to expand to a service comparable to a Ring system. Very disappointing because there are a significant number of Amazon, FEDEX, USPS and UPS deliveries to me and homes near mine.

Horrible experience. I was told my contract was three years by the sales representative that came to my home and while speaking to customer service they told me my contract was five years. I had also had problems with the technical support representatives being extremely rude to me. I asked to speak to the manager and she was not available. I asked for her to call me back and it had been over 2 months and I still have heard nothing.
I also have been trying to cancel my contract and was told I can only speak to a particular person about that. Well he called me on 2 weeks ago and was supposed to email me he information and follow up with a phone call and I have her to hear from him either. He has yet to return any of my phone calls to him. The technicians that come to your home were all nice but other than that I don't have one good thing to say about them.

Very poor customer service. After several years with Guardian we planned to discontinue our land line which required conversion to a internet based monitoring. We proceeded and when I notified them we need to convert they first tried to sell us a radio based system with cost involving equipment expense and increase in monthly monitoring cost. We informed them we only wanted the internet based system with WiFi that would require a pad replacement that would include a service call charge.
This was after paying a $8 monthly fee for service protection for years that we never needed and by the way we were unaware it was an optional charge. Needless to say in a world where many private home owners are getting rid of land lines and the technology is changing rapidly Guardian is making some poor business decisions in retention strategy!

Guardia was the existing system when we bought our home three years ago. Cheapest option was to activate and continue service. Panel was older and complicated but service generally good. Moved again this year, and were disappointed with Guardian pricing for new install. No real price break for existing customer. Vivint offered much better deal and better technology. Happy with our new choice.

I am a commercial customer that was with them for 30years- about 9 months ago, they could not get anything right. No one would call back- i called 50+ times! The system was wired with the zones backwards, phone lines disconnected (would have thought the monitoring center might notice this?), alarm went off for no reason some days, inoperable others.
Simple weekly reports dissapeared (no one could fix it but they kept billing no problem). Local municipality almost jailed them for their fire-hazard wiring and lack of permits. They have a nice new website now- would have been nice if they could install or monitor our alarms.

Ever since we had the Medical Alert System installed in our home it has been such a gift. We signed up for the service as a safeguard for my elderly mother just in case she had an accident. I feel better knowing that my mother has the means to call for help in case she can't get to a phone or at the time of a health problem is not able to use a phone.

Stuck guarding my own business because Guardian Alarms staff never showed up. It's 7pm and we closed at 6pm. I was told it's going to be another 30mins before anyone shows up. I'm obviously overpaying for terrible customer service. I would not recommend this company to anyone in need of a security company.

Ever since Guardian Alarm was bought out, their policies and service SUCK! I was discriminated against and service was DENIED for reasons totally out of my control and that were based on the actions of other people. If anyone asks, I will definitely deter them from using this service. Very disappointed in this so-called "hometown" business. If could give a negative star, I would.
I live in an apartment complex which allows you to have alarm systems installed. I signed an 18month lease with an auto renew which means I will be there for 3.5 years. But since other people have signed up for service and left before the 3 year contract was up, I was denied service. If I am willing to sign a contract and have my credit attached to it etc. it would beg that I would obviously not skip out on the contract. Furthermore, they did not even bother to contact the management company to verify or anything.
They just assumed (probably because of my first name) that I would skip out on the contract. I will NEVER deal with this company and I will make sure EVERYONE knows how they operate! Based on other reviews and things that I am hearing about this company and their practices with "contracts" and service being hit or miss, I think I dodged a bullet!

My experience with Guardian was always good. I must have asked the right questions when deciding on what I needed and how to set up the system. I had glass breaks, one motion sensor and a hard wired smoke detector with a backup in case of a power outage. I was the only one who ever set off the alarm and that was because I was sleepy in the morning and opened the door to let the dogs out before disarming.
I always got a courtesy call from Guardian asking if I needed assistance so the police never were called unnecessarily. Also, I thought the charges were reasonable for the service. Would use them again.

I'm so very grateful for your location nearby, your immediate and personal availability (vs. punching buttons!), your professional expertise, and your friendly warmth. Thank you for remembering who I am, for remaining respectful and calm with my several "false alarms", and for your fair & affordable pricing. I had a horrifying experience with another alarm company some years back ~ which I'll share with you if you want to be appalled! You rescued me then, and have been protecting me ever since.

I could write a book abot how bad my experience has been. I have used Guardian in 3 houses, the installers are amazing, but the sales people and the customer care is attrocious. I ordered cameras and was promised Sonys and High Def. but was delivered cheap Chinese garbage. I asked for this to be addressed and spent months chasing them. I have since used PowerAlarm and ADT and even as bad as ADT is, they are better than Guardian, do yourself a favor, look elsewhere!

Your review helps others learn about great local businesses. We have had Guardian Alarm for several years. We have been VERY pleased with their service. We were given advice and guidance on options that were best for us from knowledgeable and friendly people. Best of all the service has worked very well with no false alarms and glitches that our friends experienced with other services.

Last week my father had an accident. He slipped in the shower and was not able to get to a phone to call for help. Luckily he wears the waterproof medical alert necklace. Your support staff's quick action in calling for aid was the key. Assistance to help my father arrived in minutes. I hate to think what would have happened if help was not reachable.
