The Door Store

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! The owner made a mistake when taking notes on my order, and when the doors were installed, he refused to admit his mistake. He threatened me with Small Claims Court. He's clearly done this before as he had a pre-written email for this type of situation. The only solution I had was to let them finish the job incorrectly, per his design, not the one I paid for. TOM THE OWNER IS AWFUL!

The Door Store has good products and installers, but their customer service is terrible. Some of the problems (labor and supply chain) are out of their control, but they do not keep customers informed, nor do the staff return calls and emails. I was promised my doors in 8-10 weeks after I ordered them in late January 2022, and the Door Store just installed them. Kudos to Phil, the production manager, and Donny/Sebastian, the installers. Management at the Door Store need to replace their receptionist, Carly, for someone who is more customer-friendly and knowledgeable.

BEWARE! This company has the worst customer service I've ever EVER dealt with and products you can buy from someone who actually WANTS YOUR BUSINESS. I have never written a review in my life because I believe that reviews are mostly just angry people venting. That being said, after seeing this company's reviews and dealing with them on a (very expensive) door - I can say I do not want someone else going through what I went through with this company.

I always try and find a local company to support rather than a Home Depot/Lowes and in this case, I chose the Door Store on a whim. They were kind when I went into the store (not one mask in the height of COVID) but the red flags started the minute they came to measure. A man came and rudely told me he was here to measure the door. I let him, and asked him if it'd be ready in 4-6 weeks. "Jim would have never told you that" he said, patronizing me to high heavens.

I told him that I was having my own contractor install the door and he still insisted I was wrong and it'd be 8-10 weeks. I then told him I had an email with Jim estimated 4-6 weeks in writing and he said OH we're not installing - yes 4-6 weeks. No apology, nothing. I was in shock - I have never had someone come to my house and be so blatantly rude to my face. Turns out that man that came to measure was the OWNER.

These are top-down issues from the highest up. I then got the door and the paint was already peeling off it. It was an absolutely atrocious paint job. Jim told me they'd touch it up and now, after I've gotten the door installed, they won't come touch it up because "it was a pickup and they don't know what happened". Nothing happened in transit. My guys were very careful.

The paint is sticky, and ONE COAT no primer. Now Im stuck with a terrible paint job and have to have someone re paint my door (I paid the Denver Door Store 600 dollars to paint it). DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY. They are rude, act like they don't want your business, and NEVER ever take accountability when things go wrong - and judging by these reviews- they frequently do.

Jim helped us to choose 8 new doors for our home. He was wonderful. He came to our home and made suggestions. He was very knowledgable. We look forward to the installation! Diane P

The door store sells a nice looking door and follows up with terrible service. Our door started to have bubbles in the mahogany which they assured us they would fix ( this is only a year after they installed it) but still they have not. They also have never installed the interior trim. I think they must be a failing business with no intent to actually finish a job.

I highly recommend The Door Store. Absolutely love my new door! I was extremely satisfied from beginning to end. Went in initially, had no idea which kind of front door would look good for my house and Jim helped us find the perfect door. The installers were very polite and professional too. The door we ordered exceeded my expectations.

Ordering the door was no problem, but when they brought door to the house it had the wrong side glass windows! They said it would be months until we got the ones we wanted before, so we settled for the uglier ones. We've had the front door for about 6 years now and awhile back my wife called to see if they could fix the clear coating on the door, because it was peeling off.

Obviously we are willing to pay to have this done! The lady who answered the phone basically told my wife it was too expensive and we couldn't afford it LOL! If she would of simply just said "we don't do that" I would have bought another door! We ended up ordering one from out of state.

We could not be any more pleased with our Door Store experience! Yesterday we had our new iron doors and sidelights installed. We were definitely not sure what to expect as far as collateral damage to the house as a result of taking out the old doors and having new doors installed. There was NO collateral damage and the doors fit perfectly. The sales team we met with was very knowledgeable and helpful.

The doors we selected are rather pricey, and a radical departure from the standard doors we were familiar with, so naturally we had a number of questions and concerns. Someone at The Door Store was always available to answer these for us during our decision-making process. The crew doing the installation were clean, respectful, and worked well as a team. Each knew their tasks and went about them carefully, purposefully and expertly. I would not hesitate to recommend The Door Store for your future home improvement project!

I couldn't be any happier with the doors that were installed for my office. All staff involved from sales, measurement, and installation were professional and friendly. They were able to match the doors that we ordered to the ones that were already present in our house. I would absolutely use their services again.

[EDIT 1.10.22] I've just added a picture of the email communication which was a follow-up from the phone conversation where we reached out for help. We have attempted to get responses from this business, but they clearly don't care about existing customers or the quality of their products and installations. -------------------------------------- As a member of the community it's important to support local businesses as they're the fabric of the local economy.

We purchased our door on 3/30/2019, and I am disappointed by the quality and more importantly the egregious customer service. Currently, the door is warped where rain and snow actively seeps into my home and making it very difficult to turn the doorknob. When speaking with the sales rep he noted "too bad" as the door is no longer under warranty. When purchasing a door at this cost, I would expect the materials to hold up. Furthermore, the goal was to find a way to repair the door, and I found the sales rep unwilling to collaborate.

I feel duped by the sales rep as he no longer was interested to work with me after my credit card wasn't the focal point of the conversation. The lesson learned, the sales rep couldn't be bothered by this inconvenience. It's unfortunate as we're subjected to water seeping into the house and may damage our hardwood floors.

The Door Store in Denver was a nightmare of an experience. When I ran into a glitch with my handyman installing a door I bought from the Door Store, I went into the shop hoping, as I explained, to come to a win-win solution. Before I knew it, I alone was facing three men, one sneering at me, and the loudest being the owner, who yelled, berated, intimidated, accused, insulted, shouted some more, and constantly interrupted. It was unbelievable. I left with no solution at all. Do hire their installers if you buy from them; perhaps they'll be more respectful.

Skip was patient and responsive as we visited several times to look at sample doors and catalogs to find a good option for us during the Covid supply chain issues. We are very happy with the quality and appearance of our double front doors. The cost was a little high, but I think that was due to the Covid building material shortages and not The Door Store. The installers were friendly, responsive, and careful. They completed the installation in just a few hours.

We shopped around for a front door but none could match the quality and professionalism of The Door Store. The doors are crafted and stained in the shop to exact specifications. The people are polite, knowledgeable and professional. The installers were exacting to details and didn't leave until we were perfectly satisfied. We've had our door for several weeks and have received multiple compliments including being told that it's the most beautiful door they've ever seen.

Wish I'd read reviews before spending $8k with these guys four years ago. That round of business was painful near to the point of ridiculous. Did a remodel and addition this year and had to go back to The Door Store so our doors would match. This experience was exponentially worse. The salesman I dealt with always got it wrong and always tried to smooth things over with BS. Went to the owner who seems to have trained the salesman from the depths of his own personality. Something positive to say? They have a nice showroom. Don't let it hook you like it did me.

Amazing experience with The Door Store! I'm currently in the process of remodeling one of my properties, I worked with Skip and couldn't be happier with the end result! Outstanding customer service. Beautiful products, but I'd echo others to go elsewhere. We purchased two doors from them. One door was ordered incorrectly, and they asked if we could just be okay with it being installed the other way "since it's only going into a mud room." Then, over time (it's been a couple years now), it was apparent that the spot it was installed wasn't supporting the much heavier door than the one that had originally been there and the whole door was coming down. Service throughout has been disappointing. Again, go somewhere else.

Very good install on an exterior front door, however, the finish has not held up. There is no warranty on their exterior door so after 18 months they referred me to a refinisher. Apparently, a low quality paint was used and no protective finish coat was applied. The door now has to be sanded and repainted at my considerable cost. Not what I expected for the price I paid.

His is a terrible company. The initial process and ordering the door was fine. They sent someone out to measure the door to make sure they could order correct. The person who came out was the owner. When the door came it was about 2" short on each side, so total of 4" difference. Luckily they can use trim to fix, but they also measured the base wrong.

I am still waiting for them to come take care of this two weeks later. I have also received emails asking for final payment. During the demo process the more experienced installer was training a new staff member, he had told him to be careful as the house is 1900. told him to cut out as much as he could. On the last item of the door that could have been cut out the guy starts yanking on it and the plaster in the house falls out.

The installer apologized and said they would fix it. they also messed up the paint on the door and incorrectly painted the interior black, and blamed it on me saying it wasn't in the paperwork that their employee wrote down. I was there the entire installation and hear the installer talking to his boss, explained the situation and what he told me.

I get a call after he hangs up from the company and they tried blaming the broken plaster on the house and said they won't fix it. I have had terrible experience. my door isn't complete, its an inch short, they won't come when they tell me and expect me to wait at home all day. When they miss their window they try to schedule me a week out. I am going to have another company come finish. I will pay the agreed upon amount less the cost for the new company to come fix.

TOM THE OWNER IS AWFUL! I ordered 3 sets of solid core bi-fold doors totaling over $1900. I was clear about the sizing requirements, and my invoice specifically said "30" wide and 80" high". When the doors were being installed I realized they were only 78" high - which does not work for the spaces for a variety of reasons. After several discussions with the person I ordered from, and having him talk to my installer who agreed with me 100%, I talked to the owner. Tom was incredibly rude, offensive, and dismissive.

He refused to entertain any compromise. He basically told me that I bought the doors, and now it's my problem. I have been in the remodeling business for over 15 years, and I work with a large number of highly skilled contractors in every trade. It was alarming how he handled the issue. My first thought was that my experience was diminished because I am a woman, but after reading previous reviews I understand that this is his MO.

The Door Store, Jim Lord worked with me in designing an new entry for a small open room in my sons house that we wanted to convert to an office. We wanted to insure the design and installation would not be recognized as an add-on and match the existing Alder doors and trim in the house and provide light into the existing room. While I was a little shocked at the cost estimate and because of Covid, I never went to the showroom to look at product.

Once the new door and side lights came and were installed, I was more than happy with what I paid. Great quality and craftsmanship and an exact match. The installation crew was professional and I when they left, you couldn't tell they were there or that the door and side lights were an addition. Thank you Jim

We bought their floor sample door and scheduled an installation date. Two days before the date, they cancelled the installation pending some supply issue. I feel that it is very fishy -- what is the "supply problem" with a floor sample -- The door is right there on the floor! I challenged them with the question, they choose to refund me, which I accepted. Not happy, but OK with a full refund. So 3 stars.

Poor service and quality and high price. Front door is junk after a year. Door cost a lot of $$$ Not sure how they stay in biz

My door is only a couple years old and this is what it looks like. This door was $2500 installed and it did not even last two years. There is a big overhang over the front door so its not even very exposed to the elements. These guys were awful to work with so you would think they would at least do a decent job- Nope!

Awful- poor customer service and a bad product. After 6 months my door is falling apart. You can see through the door! And front panels started peeling off after 6 months

These guys were great during the selection process, and the finished product is stunning. The installation went very smoothly. Very pleased with the level of customer service, and they were very responsive throughout. Highly recommend!

I recently just completed an exterior door purchase and installation with the Door Store and had an excellent experience. The sales staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Email communication was quick and accurate. Installation schedule was within a reasonable time and never got bumped. Most of all, the actual install with Phil and Eli was skilled and precise.

I have an old bungalow house with crooked this and that and was concerned it wouldn't install well. The final product exceeded my expectations and looks even better than I had anticipated. Thanks for the beautiful finished product.

HEED THE WARNINGS OF THE REVIEWS! Not sure how a company with a proven track record of failed customer experiences (3.5 stars out of 88, at the time of this review, 05/07/2020) is still in business. My experience was much like that of the warnings I ignored - failed finishes and warped wood doors, non-responsiveness to customer correspondence, failure to stand behind their product and craftsmanship, denial of warranty, blatantly rude (owner, Tom).

See images taken within a few months after install. Tom does not understand the need to take a pragmatic approach to running his business. Reviews are a clear indication, and writing on the wall. I can only guess it is a matter of time until his poor attitude leads to the demise of the business.

We just finished having our second door installed. Both are great quality. Installation great. The few issues we had were taken care of quickly. Very easy process from start to finish.

We are extremely happy with our beautiful new solid mahogany door! They did a great job all the way around from helping me choose the door, the stain, and the hardware to sending a skilled team to install it. Their prices are very competitive - we got a quote from a different company for over $2K more! And, they are a local business! What's not to like? If you need/want a new door, The Door Store on Santa Fe Drive should be your first - and only - stop.

BUYER BEWARE. If I could give these guys a worse review I would. Hands down the biggest bunch of idiots I have ever dealt with especially a fella named Tom. We used them for a custom job and they performed all measuring but they couldn't even do that nor could they deliver the right product on time in over four months. They have a the brain power of a two-year old.

We build houses faster than these derelicts measure doors. Skip is a crusty old guy that can't do his job or any job there including customer support or know how to answer a phone or to use one for that matter so email obviously out of the question. Most importantly he doesn't understand customer service or even the products that they sell and I would be ashamed if I was the business owner.

The growth in Denver appears to have allowed this company to thrive but believe me if you want these products do not use these guys. Use Mountain View Windows and Doors or Western Pacific or these guys if you want to me ripped off and severely disappointed. In addition if you use these guys make sure you don't pay until you have all the correct product in hand and measured to fit because if it is wrong these guys will not make it right. Consumer, you have been warned!

The installers (Phil and Omar) appear to have done a really professional job, and I noticed they kept cleaning up to keep the work areas neat. The doors look great. We appreciate the help recommendations you provided as we made our selections and purchase.

Avoid this store at all costs. If you need a standard prehung or slab solid or hollow core door go to Lowe's or Home Depot. The quality isn't worth the extra money, and the service is horrible. My wife and I walked thru 7 interior doors step by step, explaining how each opened.

We love it! I am going to snap a photo and put it on Facebook. Thank you for your efforts to get the install done prior to family arriving tomorrow, we so appreciate having it done.

Wow, what an experience! I went to the door store looking for a replacement door for my spare bedroom. I came in with a picture of exactly what I needed and the measurements. I walked up to a salesman, Skip, and he immediately had an attitude and conveyed he had better things to do.

Angela at the Door Store was great to work with. We were looking for hardware for our new home. She provided design and sales help initially and then put together a complicated order quickly. Her attention to detail included making sure all the doors were keyed the same and professional, timely communication.
