Matthews Roofing

My house has been in the family for 100 years. My grandmother used Matthews roofing years ago. So I called them when I needed a roof. And I called. And I called. 4 times. You initially speak with a receptionist who forwards your call to the estimator- Miguel. The estimator called back and I wasn't home. Then he left a snippy message like this is my fault.

Then he would call and not leave a message, but it takes it takes me some time to get to the phone. Finally, they gave me his phone number. We made an appointment and he said he'd call 1/2 hour before he came. No show. I called the company and it seems he was out of town and blew me off. If that is how they treat an estimate, I can just imagine that they won't be on time for the actual 'doing' of the roof. Can't trust them.

Matthews is a great company to work with! I've worked with Eric, Miguel, and Bryan each on several projects and it always goes smoothly and on schedule!

Fantastic experience with our roof getting redone. Eric was extremely responsive and helpful even as he was out of the country.

Miguel was such a joy to work with! He is professional, thorough, courteous, super knowledgeable in his field and very responsive. I had a ton of questions to ask him about our full roof replacement. Our building has been SO HAPPY with the projects that Eric from Matthews did for us this fall. They patched our main roof, installed a new gutter with two downspouts (prior gutter had one), and replaced a balcony's roof. Eric saw it through from start to finish with a positive attitude the entire time, and that is a rare thing indeed. And, he answered his phone (equally rare!).

From the moment Eric came to give a quote, he was forthright about the most realistic and affordable options and insisted a full main roof tear-off at this time (which would have meant much more money for them) wasn't needed. Regarding the gutter situation, he helped us brainstorm options until we found the best solution. And as to the balcony roof, he recommended a specific roofing product that would hold up under the deck we wanted to put on it.

He always answered all of our questions thoroughly and considered our solutions as valid as his own. Plus, he worked with the other contractors we had and recommended best practices for related work we needed. When the crews came to do the actual work, Eric actually showed to ensure the job was being done with the details outlined in the contract and even assisted the crew in specific remediation we requested as we saw what was under the old roof. And, wonder of wonders, when the new front balcony roof took longer to tear off than they had anticipated, Ever (crew boss) and his guys took as much time as it needed - and I'm talking an extra full day of a 2-4-man crew.

When I asked him about it, he said that he always took the time to do it right because he didn't want to come back to re-do it under their warranty. Matthews Roofing is one of the rare companies that has found a way to stay in business while retaining its quality, integrity, and professionalism, and not just focusing on profit. A friend's building recommended them to me, and I highly recommend them to you.

Nothing but good things to say about Matthews. From the very beginning I was kept abreast of what would be going on-from the setting up of the scaffold to clean up. I am not the one who does reviews but in this instance I must. From the time Mr. Joe Nixon came out for the inspection until the work was finished I was pleased either the professionalism, wisdom, concern and the quality of workmanship that was done. This company was hired by the seller of a property that i bought and Eric From matthews roofing passed and certified that the my flat roof has no issues and leak. Lets just say that me trusting their inspection cost us 24-25K for a total tear off of our roof to solve the existing leak issue that this licensed roofer told me was none existent. I hope you avoid this company at all cost unless you want to gamble your money for an untrustworthy and unreliable company.

These people are really good! We bought a 2flat a little over a yr ago and on inspection noticed some repairs that needed to be made to the 8yr old flat roof. My inspector said the roof was installed well but in 8yrs repairs are expected. Prior to closing the original owners called Matthews and they came out to honor their 10yr warranty and make minor repairs prior to bldg changing hands!

I just had them out, today, to get advice on adding more roof vents (at suggestion of inspector) and they explained why they weren't need--nor were new gutters which I thought I needed. It's always good to have an honest opinion. I appreciate the free advice and as I said, I'll call them in five years when they said i may need to consider replacement. That's great business.

I called to get an estimate and was told someone will call me so I waited 2 weeks and I called again, someone did call me back after a week and left me a voicemail while I was at work so I called them right back and was unable to Leave voicemail because the mailbox was full, I then continue to call a few days later and no response.

I was almost run down by someone driving one of your vehicles as I was in the crosswalk. Do you encourage your employers to drive aggressively?

Critical: Responsiveness Edwin called me back promptly and we made an appointment. Last min he called to reschedule for the next day. Didn't show up and did not respond to my call and text message. All I can say is thank you for warning me of what it would be like to work with Matthew's Roofing.

We had roof repairs done by another company and needed a review of the roof. I have a flat roof with no direct access. We have difficulty finding roofers that have an extension ladder. Matthews came out quickly and was professional. We had an estimate from another company that we suspected was pushing for work that we do not need. We did expect to hear that maybe some minor work would be required. Matthews reviewed the roof, took some pictures and said the roof looked fine and to call back in a couple of years for another review for maintenance.

They re-did the roof of my building a few years ago and it has been riddled with leaks here and there since. I had a leak in my unit for almost 2 years that they could not fix. They ultimately cut the line to my air conditioning from the roof to my unit while trying (and failing) to fix the leak. It then took several weeks for them to admit fault in ruining my air conditioning.

When I explained the obvious causal relationship between their roof work and the air conditioning not working, they tried to say they had nothing to do with it. Felt like I was being gas lighted. Ultimately, roof was fixed (not after them coming out several times) and they agreed to pay a certain amount to have the air conditioning fixed, though it was 100% their work that led to the line being severed. Would not recommend them to anyone.

I need a new roof so called for a quote. I was told someone would call me within 2 days. I waited 4 days and called back. They said someone would call me by the end of the day. 6 days later no one has still called. Reliability is critical. If this is how I am treated before they start the job, I would hate to think how timely they are during their work. I will not be using them.

My experience with Matthews Roofing - Keep looking for a reputable company. Matthews refused to compensate me for $1600 cleaning the clogged gutters, catch basin lines and the thousand of shingle marks left on my house and my neighbors. The photos show the BAG OF SHINGLES, NAILS and STAPLES left in my gutter after paying for their BEST GAF replacement roof installed. FIVE DAYS after they finished work NOONE from Matthews bothered to follow up to see if everything was OK. GAF makes quality roofs, the roofers worked in 100+ temps but the manager PHIL WALTERS dropped the ball.

Mr Walters threatened to sue me for not calling him about the problems immediately, which anyone walking on the property could clearly see the damaged walls. KEEP LOOKING FOR A REPUTABLE ROOFER!

Update: May have taken longer than I hoped, but these guys stood behind the work, fixed something that likely wasn't even in their initial scope, and addressed the issue. The response was frankly better than I would've expected. Kudos to Brian and his team

I had three different companies come out to give me an estimate on replacing my roof and Matthews Roofing was the most professional and most reasonably priced of the three. Phillip did a great job of communicating and his crew did the entire job in one day and the new roof looks great. I was especially appreciative of how well they cleaned up. When they left you would never have known that had even been there. Overall very positive experience.

I spoke with a rep last week and was told he'd pass it on the the estimate dept. Never got a call back. I guess they don't do small jobs. Ugh.

True professionals! Customer service and response time were both Top Notch! They got in and completed my condo building roof in 1 day. Phil was great as a PM/Salesman and kept me looped in along the way. Would highly recommend them!

My townhouse (4 units) needed a new roof (flat roof). We received estimates from many, many others, and some appeared to be less expensive. After analyzing our options, we chose Matthews because they readily provided complete information on the materials, the process involved, the excellent warrantee, their certificate of insurance (relieving us of any liability should an accident occur on the job), and additional information demonstrating their knowledge of using proper adhesives that would enable the warrantee.

There were no surprises--everything went according to plan, and in two days from the start, our roof was completed. They also did an excellent job of cleanup, as well. We were all quite pleased, and appreciated their upfront honesty and close customer contact.

We are very satisfied with the job they did. It looks great. They are a very prompt, curtious, hardworking team. We had great communication with them. We would and will recommend them to anyone. Job well done guys. Thank You.

I had Phil from Matthews Roofing put a new roof on my new home in Wheaton. The old roof was in bad shape. It had algae staining, hail damage, and leaking from a sofitt. After a few quotes and referrals I hired Phil to put on architectural shingles and replace parts of the damaged soffit. The crew worked quick and cleaned up well. The family owned company has been in the family for generations and the peace of mind that they back their work with a warranty is very assuring.

I worked with Phil from Matthews roofing this summer. I needed new gutters & downspouts. Phil came out, thoroughly inspected my roof, determined the best plan of action and furnished a quote very quickly. I am very pleased with the quality of workmanship and I highly recommend Matthews roofing.

Matthew roofing's get zero stars in my book because it takes them 3 to 4 days for a response and a free estimate for a roof total BS no good they been in business for years I don't know how. All I wanted was a Price on the roof and can't believe it takes them that long to respond we never referred them to anybody Matthews is not even worth one star thank you

I had water coming into my house they the ceiling. Matthews came out the day before Thanksgiving and took pictures of my badly damaged roof, gave me a fair price, and on December 5th they were there at 7:30 a.m. sharp with a huge truck, tons of materials and a 5 man crew. The crew worked for 8 hours! Thankful and grateful!

This morning my broker met Phillip Walter over at a potential prosperity I'm looking to purchase. He was on time, courteous, thorough and gave knowledgeable feedback to my options regarding the roof. He followed up with a phone call to clearly explain everything to me after he left the site. Couldn't of been happier with his service. Highly recommended.

I had always heard that Matthews Roofing was very good and a reputable company. I had a few missing shingles on my roof that needed replacement. Philip from Matthews Roofing came out and gave me an estimate ($750). He said they could come and do the work while I wasn't home. Weeks passed and one day I noticed a package of new shingles in the backyard.

I contacted Philip to ask if they left the shingles and when they would begin the work. Philip told me the work was completed. I went up to my roof to check and there were still missing shingles on both sides of the roof, mostly near the dormers. I am lucky in that I live near the Bloomingdale Trail and can get a clear view of my roof from the trail.

If I was elderly or disabled or unable to view my roof, I would have just taken their word for it. I sent Philip photos of the missing shingles and he said he'd come back out to replace them. The workers who came were incredulous when I told them about the missing shingles. I had to show them the photos on my phone. Either they didn't believe me or they weren't told what work they were supposed to do at my house.

I called Keith Matthews, the manager, several times and left messages. I sent him emails. He never got back to me. I think they probably have more work than they can handle and are subcontracting out jobs to people who are not qualified or who are doing sloppy work. Such a disappointment. Will not be using them again.

I wish I could rate 0 stars, I can only say they want money hired them to do a flat roof charged me more then other companies, but i figured they are the best, well to my surprise they were not. Took them 4 days when they said 2, bad employees (smelled like beer).
