My obsessive compulsive stepdaughter called Service master Anytime Restore CA Contractors Lic. #713114 to express concern about what she perceived was mold in my basement studio which has a subterranean wall. There have been problems in the past with water seepage during heavy rain years but there was no mold. A Servicemaster rep came to the house without asking for my authorization.
I told him what needed to be done, which was that the exterior wall needed to be waterproofed. He told me that his company doesn't do what I needed but he asked me if he could check the inside wall for moisture. I allowed him to do so and he detected no moisture. He left after spending no more than 15 minutes at the house. I received an invoice charging me $175 for the "emergency service call" even though there was no emergency and this company doesn't do what I needed. The invoice listed WATER EXTRACTION & REMEDIATION as part of the $175 charge.

When a company exhibits poor work and service and does nothing to compensate you, sometimes all you can do is post a poor review.and that's what I'm doing here. I contacted this company to fix leak damage in one room and replace my shower stall. They couldn't have bungled it up much worse. The communication from the contractor to the workers was very poor; workers showed up late or not at all, the contractor did not properly convey the work that needed to be done to the workers, and the entire project (which really wasn't that big of a deal) fell months behind.
I even did some of the painting myself to save time. The contact center was not sympathetic and although the contractor was friendly, I became very frustrated with him quickly. A very poor experience. I was embarrassed for myself to have to tell friends and family that the bathroom work was still going on week after week. I felt taken advantage of and like they had more important jobs to tend to. I expressed my disappointment throughout the process and was met with barely more than half-hearted apologies.

We had a small fire in our office and more than anything there was terrible smoke smell and damage left in the room. Luckily service master took care of everything from start to finish including assessment, scrubbing the air, replacing the drywall, paint, carpet and doing the finish work. ServiceMaster also took care of inventorying the damaged contents of the fire, and communicated with the insurance company. We are completely satisfied with the work and got back up and running within a month of the incident. I recommend ServiceMaster!

As an absentee landlord, I was so pleased with ServiceMaster's work on my water damaged Goleta condo unit. From the initial quote, working with the condo association's insurance company, expediting the project and having everything turn out wonderfully, it was a positive experience. They even suggested a small improvement that was a good idea and cost a lot less than if I'd decided to do it after the fact.
I was on the hook for a good part of the $$, due to insurance issues, but they worked with me like I was their best customer. Near the end of the project, some buyers made an attractive offer, but more work needed to be done quickly. Service Master rose to the occasion and the escrow closed in a timely fashion. Very easy to work with and such a relief, given that I live in Northern Ca. Thank you Pat, Ryan, David, and Brittney for making this such an easy, cost effective project.

I Have numerous complaints about Service master Anytime. They were hired to remove the contents of my house due to fire damage. Every room had a worker boxing up the belongings creating a disorganized situation for keeping track of items from each room. Stephen Robles was the supervisor until his transfer to the San Diego area. He agreed with our idea of organization and a proper inventory by room, It was never implemented.
When it came time to return our belongings, we found, according to Tyler he had our possessions had been moved and stored in Ventura due to Service Master's lack of warehouse space in locally. Eventually some of my possessions were moved to 2 storage lockers in Goleta. they were filled haphazardly and were given that storage free for 30 days.
In July 2016 a very large Roll-Off container was brought to us and dropped in my driveway instead of placing the contents inside the house. We have many broken and missing family heirlooms, including antiques over 100 years old which were in perfect condition. We passed Matt driving down the road weaving with our items unsecured! without regard. Explaining our concerns to Matt, the usual driver, apparently did things his way. Matt claimed he was taking pictures of everything; however when I requested copies, Travis sent me copies of unrequested areas with some photos too dark to assess and only a few were sent to us. Asking to speak to Santos, Manager, worked once in the beginning and told me to call him when all broken items were found, with no time limit given.
We were only given a partial inventory and several requests were ignored along with all photos. The 6 foot buffet held many treasures inside and on top; which is one of the missing antiques! Please return our missing items! Our way of living has been a nightmare due to your inept way of doing business! The, like new piano has been destroyed. Matt played it numerous times and can verify its' condition.
I called Tyler several about bringing the buffet to us so we could start placing items in it, but the excuse was always the truck was full; with that excuse I offered to pick it up in our truck and was always refused; WHY? IT is impossible to speak to anyone at the Ekwill office as the response is always; they are busy, not available, etc. Photos will be sent shortly. Many heirlooms broken and missing! Sloppy work ethics. Avoid! Clara D.

I have worked with ServiceMaster in both my personal and professional life, and I always appreciate their expertise and professionalism in dealing with difficult situations. If you're calling ServiceMaster Anytime, it's because something bad has happened, and they do as good a job as any at finding a good solution from a bad situation. My wife and I purchased our home this Spring.
We were renters and had just entered into escrow with our landlord when we discovered a leak in our living room ceiling. The ServiceMaster tech opened a hole in the ceiling and discovered mold had grown on the ceiling joists and drywall. Definitely not what you want to deal with on your first day in escrow! ServiceMaster was instrumental in quickly coordinating the mold remediation and communicating all the costs associated with the remediation/repairs with the seller, the seller's insurance, and us so we could close escrow on schedule.
There were many things to handle when navigating an insurance claim and escrow at the same time, and I'm very grateful that I had ServiceMaster Anytime to handle the water damage and repairs so my wife and I could care for our children and focus on the bright future of owning our newly repaired and mold free home!

There is a reason our major insurance company lists ServiceMaster last. Their company AbateX was a complete sham. The company left staples in the walls, broke the door jamb, new wood front door damaged. Neglected to remove cabinets and was charged. Had to hire a handyman to finish the negligent job. Sorry to give a one star rating. I requested a discount due to the damage and was denied.

Two years ago during a heavy rain storm our sun room got flooded from a leak in the roof. The water gushed out, flooded the sun room and came into the whole house. Hartford insurance hired ServiceMaster to do all the repairs. We were in a hotel room for ten weeks. I would come by the house to pick up the mail from my neighbor and not see any workers there.
I phoned them constantly and was given different dates when we would be able to move back in. last month during a heavy rain fall the same thing happened again, . All house flooded from same area as before. I called service master and Anthony Bushey came out and told me nonchalantly "The the leak was never fixed because they could not find it" I stood there dumbfounded.
No one informed me as of course I would have gotten the problem fixed. Now I have to go through this whole ordeal again. I am in my eighties and this is involved a lot of hardship and emotional distress. Obviously Service master just take the money and run not caring about the consequences of neglected work. The team at ServiceMaster Dynamic Cleaning are my new heros! Our finished basement/in-law apartment was flooding yesterday. They sent a team right over to mitigate the damage, clean up and look for the source of the water. After we found mold behind the walls (ick!) I was even more grateful that they came right over. Now the walls are down, the carpet is pulled up, and their industrial dryers are drying it out so it's clean and safe! Excellent work and super nice people, which I really appreciated in a stressful situation.

Whatever you do, don't call this company. They bill for services not rendered, time not spent at your dwelling, and they won't return your phone calls to discuss the incorrect charges. Unscrupulous and unethical. I had to contact the BBB of Santa Barbara on behalf of my friend because they wouldn't return phone calls.

Update (4/20/18): I went to the doctors yesterday, and I found out my lungs are functioning around 65% of normal, and I have developed asthma. I'm having more tests done Monday and the term "permanent neurological damage" is just hard not to think about. 1 star is too high, my actual rating would be -5 stars. Here's my story: My landlord hired ServiceMaster Anytime to perform mold and moisture removal in my kitchen.
The workers they sent out were friendly, but they weren't trained properly. I am a flooring installer by profession, I'm not yet a contractor but i did just pass the test and mail in my proof of bonding so hopefully i'll have that soon. I'm also member of the NWFA (national wood flooring association), and I've taken and passed the NWFA University moisture classes.
I know a little bit about how to measure moisture.the workers from ServiceMaster did not. They had readings of 16-17% moisture content in the flooring outside of the leaking kitchen and said those were normal. Sure, if the relative humidity inside my rental was always 80% or more, then they would be right. However, since i do actually have a thermo-hygrometer (it tests the humidity in the air along with tempurature) I know my place ranges from 35-55% moisture, maybe as high as 70% if it's raining.
I later used a Delmhorst moisture meter and learned that the flooring surface is relatively dry, but the concrete subfloor is saturated and transferring that moisture upwards. Why is it important that their employees can accurately assess moisture? There's a large amount of Chaetomium, Petriella, and Penicillium/Aspergillus in the kitchen (I had Wood Environmental test the moisture and mold species. Judy is great, and Wood Environmental is another company I'd highly recommend), and since they declared that area clear I am assuming that it's spreading throughout the house. Speaking of spreading throughout the house, after they saw the mold, and possibly some asbestos residue, they decided to set up a dehumidifier without an air scrubber.
Guess what mold does when it's home dries out? It looks for a new home! That's right, the mold releases spores and mycotoxins into the air so they can seek out new moist environments to grow. What's the human body mostly consist of? Oh, right, moisture. Within an hour or two of their crew leaving, my rental smelled STRONGLY of mold.
I had an instant headache, so I looked closely at the "barrier" they put up and saw air leaks all over the darn thing. I had to personally put a second barrier over the one they installed, then seal my room, and live like a prisoner in my own house. So, if you want things done, but you just don't care if they're done right, done legally, or done with concern for human life, then this is the company to hire.
If you want things done, and done right, I would suggest QwikResponse. They can even handle asbestos remediation if you need that, ServiceMaster doesn't have that qualification. I don't work for QwikResponse, nor have i ever, but I've repeatedly called them for advice on how to deal with ServiceMaster's VERY UNSAFE work, and the people over have helped me out over and over.
They would spend 10-30 minutes on the phone with me, and I'm not even their customer. When I called ServiceMaster and asked to personally rent an air scrubber, they didn't allow me to. Beware of Steve Kwilsi (i doubt i spelled his last name right, for that i apologize Steve) as he is rude, unreasonable, and doesn't care if I'm willing to pay for cleaner air to breath while ServiceMaster slowly destroys this house. I'll be fair, I might be overreacting a little bit since my landlord is the one who is contracted with them. However, I don't have the faintest idea why he wouldn't take my personal money in exchange for renting equipment that would lower the negative impact on my health that ServiceMaster is creating.

Unethical, unethical, unethical. Where do I start? They'll bill you things you don't need. They'll give you a quote and then jack up the price after the work is done without letting you know. They pad the bill with bogus charges, then talk to you condescendingly if you dare to question them. Never again. Stay far far away from this dishonest company. Buyer beware.

Service master did an amazing job on addressing our mold / water damage issues in hope ranch. Once discovered someone was immediately out to fix and seal the issue until it could be properly removed. Pete also brought out drying fans personally in the middle of one of the worst rainstorms Santa Barbara has ever seen! A++++ I would highly recommend them!

Stay away from this company. They did 'water mitigation' for a flood in my home. They ended up scratching my 3-year old beautiful hardwood floors, blowing out my electrical system on one side of my house. I had to pay $1.000 to an electrician to fix and put in a new breaker box. They overtaxed my electrical system with all the plugs they put in my home for their big equipment. I am still fighting with them. Terrible.

This is the second time we have used this company in the last 6 years for water damage. Both times we had water damage and our insurance company recommended them. The first time I was not thrilled by the speed of returning my calls and completing the project in a timely manor. This most recent event was the same. The water abatement team did a good job.
The construction team has terrible customer service and it has been over 4 weeks since the project has been 95% complete and we are still waiting on the painter to come back and finish painting and to have our lights installed. We keep getting the run around on when it will be completed. If you can find another company I'd highly recommend it. Since this experience we have told our insurance agent that I would not recommend them again if they want to keep clients.

Stay away! They will claim there are problems when there are not, and then they will use intimidation tactics in order to make sales. Additionally, they will quote one price, and then they get there and it's hundreds of dollars more. ALL they care about is money. Very unethical in their actions. Stay away at all costs!

This company is only beholden to the landlords they do business with. They do not respect the people who live in the homes they work in. They will not answer any questions. They also feel that they can show up anytime they want without any notice, let alone 24 hour notice to the residents. They contract with multiple vendors so you never really know who is coming into your home to do the work.
Could be anybody invading your privacy. The supposed overseer of the repair never visited the home or communicated in anyway with either the landlord or the residents. They only thing some of the employees wearing uniforms would say is, "sorry for the inconvenience" while they continued to inconvenience the residents. Beware of these people entering your home. If possible, I would only give 0 stars.

I agree to stay far away. I had these people clean my place once and their idea of "sanitizing" is just ridiculous. If you're not in the cleaning industry, then perhaps you have an excuse for using the same rags to clean the floor and toilet seat and THEN clean the sink and counter. But, if you ARE in the cleaning industry, you have no excuse not to know that this is not only disgusting to your clients, it's unsafe and certainly not sanitary.
The managers should be instructing their cleaning staff HOW to clean and sanitize if they are offering that as a service they expect people to pay for. I brought this up to the manager and he apologized profusely, but it seemed less than genuine and I didn't think he really understood WHY it was unacceptable.
