Natural Stone Patios & Sidewalks
Report
When we are building patios and sidewalks we use a style of rock called slate. It’s a very flat rock which makes for great building material and we use a variety of thicknesses from 1 to 5 inches. For patios, we generally use 2″ slate. There are many types of natural rock to choose from. We find we commonly use Rundle Rock (it’s our best seller) and you can choose from a black or brown colour and Rundle Rock also looks great if you mix the two colours together.
We use another type rock called Kendal which has a mix between tan, red and gray colours, which makes for a great mixture, another type of natural stone we use is called Bronze, which has a very similar colour to Kendal.

Stone Retaining Walls
Report
Our main types of walls start with precasts which are made out of blocks such as allen block, pisa, split and stack, cornerstone, and belvedere. These precast walls are more suitable for raised flower beds and smaller retaining walls. These walls are all made with geogrids, drain rock, and weeping tiles. There is also a larger precast wall known as Rosetta Outcropping, which uses huge slabs ranging from 2 to 6 feet in length, and from 6 inches to 2 feet in height. These blocks come in different colours, such as black, rustic, and tan.
Paving Stone Installation
Report
Brickworks Landscaping does a lot of paving stone work in Edmonton and the surrounding area. The most common use for paving stone is for patios, walkways, and driveways, and sometimes we use pavers as edging along a flower bed. In our modern world, there are many types of pavers and many differences between them, like size, colour, strength, and textures. Jim will help you pick out the paving stone that best fits you as an individual, and your yard.

Ordered a cord of birch wood for delivery, plus a bag of tamarack as an experiment. VERY impressed with the quality of the wood: clean, seasoned (birch was only semi-seasoned because that's all he had, but he was upfront about that and I was willing), and split to an ideal mix of fireplace sizes of standard length. It's not knotty residential scrap, and it's not skinny toothpick trees, this is big healthy birch trees cut and split just right.
A great value for quality wood, and delivery was quite reasonable. I measured it all after getting it stacked, and was surprised (given my imprecise measurements) to see it totalled *exactly* one full honest cord. (The stacked picture is two rows, and still less than half the total.) I was also impressed with the tamarack, and it may be my standard purchase in the future. Puts out as much heat as birch, has nice sound effects, but oddly enough, doesn't throw sparks. Sweet.

We had a twenty year old cobblestone patio laid in a circular pattern and bordered by irregular curving walls. It had settled in some areas and we wanted it reinstalled as well a couple of other small projects. The first two contractors I called weren't interested. Another looked at it and said it was too difficult for them. The fourth gave a price almost double Jim's quote.
The last guy was lower than Jim but said since the cobblestone we had was no longer manufactured and it was unlikely they could relay it exactly as it was that he would probably have to substitute a slightly different product in some places. I didn't know how that would work or look so we went with Jim. We couldn't have been happier. They told us they could do everything in one day and though I didn't believe them, they proved me wrong.
The end product was beautiful. The material they quoted the side job with was unavailable so they substituted a natural stone product at no extra charge. Jim and his crew were quick, clean and professional. They made a complex job look easy. I would highly recommend them.

We decided to go with Jim from Brickwork for our landscaping last summer and we could not be happier. We had several quotes from other landscaping companies and Jim was the only one to provide a reasonable price so we could finish not only the backyard, as initially planned but also the sides and the front yard. Jim's dedication to his job and attention to detail was impeccable.
The job was performed according to schedule and with superb quality. We even request some minor changes in the project along the way and Jim was always happy to do whatever necessary to meet our requirements. My only complaint though is that I could not have a lot of relaxing moments when I sit in my backyard. In most cases, I found a passerby overlooking my landscaping from the walking path telling me how beautiful everything looks so I have to start a conversation. I suppose that is the price you pay when something is made with good taste and professionalism.
