After another HVAC company that I previously reviewed was unable to diagnose and take action to repair the issue I've been having with my 2nd floor HVAC AC unit, a friend of mine on the Commercial side of the business recommended Southern Comfort Mechanical (SCM) for residential HVAC work. I contacted SCM, explained my current problem and made an appointment for the first opening they had (a week out, was not surprised with our early heat wave). Joshua called 15 mins before he would be showing up to let me know, which was actually about 10 mins early.
I walked him around and showed him where everything was and he went about performing his inspection. He, like the previous tech, noted that I had a coolant leak somewhere and my system was holding less than 50% at this time. He performed an inspection of the condenser and coil and did not see any obvious signs of a leak. He did note, as did the first Tech that there was an abnormal buildup of pressure in the schrader valve that popped when the cap was removed.
He believe this may have been the source of the leak with the cap acting as a pressure valve. Replaced and tested the new schrader valve and added 3 lbs of coolant to system. The system has been running for 4 hours and the temperature of the 2nd floor of the house has dropped from 84 and is now at the thermostat setting of 75. Thank you Joshua and Southern Comfort Mechanical! To show my appreciation I also signed up for their HVAC Maintenance program.

Update 2: If you call Southern Comfort then ask for Luis. This man has integrity, he is gentle and empathetic and knows his business. You could not have a bad experience if he is your service man. Companies are built on people. The first time I called SCM) many years ago I was wowed by the (then) owner's dedication to service. I now feel that passion in Luis as backed by his support staff (thanks, Megan).

If you're lucky enough to pull Luis as your technician on a service call you're good. I ended up buying a new evaporator coil when the freezing problem was due to a bad thermostat not turning on the blower. I'm only a couple grand in the hole over that which is why this is 4 not 5 stars. Luis even determined that the previous technician, Martin, overcharged the coolant (at significant expense to me) and asked the office to refund that cost.
I plan to request Luis for additional work I want done on Monday morning. --------------- ORIGINAL BAD EXPERIENCE BELOW I needed a new evaporator coil to get my upstairs unit cooling. When, on the initial evaluation, the technician quoted a price I asked if that price included recharging coolant after. The technician, Martin, replied that the coolant smelled sour and might need to be replaced but they would capture and recharge with my existing coolant.
I know that coolant does not spoil so I figured this was just your typical up-sell attempt so I ignored it and agreed. The day of repair he hit me up for an extra $500 for coolant because "the compressor is not strong enough to evacuate the coolant". This "issue" was not mentioned in the initial evaluation. I have been using Southern Comfort Mechanical for approx. 1 & 1/2 years now, partly because they are an authorized service provider for the HVAC equipment I have, and it's important to hire service companies & techs who are knowledgeable about your specific equipment. But the other reasons I continue using this company is that their service techs, like Josh who just came over today, are very professional, polite, on-time and most importantly do both a thorough and excellent job.
And all their techs have done this kind of excellent work. This HVAC company is NOT like some of those bigger, multi-service, numerous TV ad or billboard companies with service techs who are also sales commissioned, to sell you upgrades, service contracts or make-up falsehoods that your equipment needs repairs or replacement soon, while right inside your home and wasting your time. But Southern Comfort Mechanical and their service techs are trustworthy and highly recommended.
And all their techs have done this kind of excellent work. Very professional and helpful. We discovered we didn't need to use return vent filters downstairs because the unit running that area of the house already had a furnace filter in place. Saved us not only few bucks, but tremendous amount of effort trying to change out these filters, two of which are about 15 ft high. Service: HVAC system maintenance

My initial use of Southern Comfort was when I was in the need of a new HVAC and this was from my daughter's recommendation. LOVE the service of this company! Luis came out and assessed my heat/ac needs and I was so impressed when he came out with the installation team at the start of the process and then came out to check completion. A couple months later, my thermostat was not working. Luis came out and found that a rat had chewed on my new HVAC wiring outdoors.
I praise him and your company for such thoroughness and conscientiousness! I doubt any other outfit would have discovered such but instead would have just replaced the thermostat, checked the unit upstairs and left. I know my review is abit long but I cannot offer enough commendations for this company. Sidebar: Luis needs recognition to include a pay raise as he is top quality!

We got a new AC installed by them several years ago. They did a great job and we got a good quality AC for a good price. Half what other companies quoted us, because there were no hidden, unnecessary upgrades or replacement. Just what we needed to keep our house comfortable year round. I use them for system checkups as well. They don't do they annoying hard sell on optional items like other providers.
Another provider tried to get me to entirely replace (at a much higher cost than what Southern Comfort did the system above for) a system that is cooling and heating exactly as expected simply because it was old. I won't be using that other provider again. Edit:. Our downstairs unit wasn't cooling. Sent them a text at 7:45 AM. Within minutes, I had an appointment, and by 11AM, the repair was fine and we were up and running again. I can't recommend them enough.

This a great company. This is what I love about them. They are very professional. By that I mean that they are courteous, and prompt, but they are also well organized and use technology to keep track of everything. They use their tablets to take snapshots of the equipment and filters. They make notes about any issue or potential issue. If you call them up they can review all of that stuff and know exactly what you're talking about.
They know who came out and what they worked on. They have this down to a science. Other things I like about them as that every service person I've talked to has taken the time to answer any question I had. They listen and they think about it and they answer. And if they don't have an answer, they will take it down and give you one after they have researched it or asked someone else at the company.
Everyone is super respectful of your space and property. I've never signed up for any of those biyearly contracts that AC companies try to sell you on. However, Southern Comfort's professionalism convinced me that they were the company to pull the trigger with. I couldn't recommend them more. I trust them and I think you should too. Oh, by the way.
I also asked them for something out of the way. I asked them if they could install a heat exchanger for my pool. It works by taking the waste heat from your house in the summer and heating your pool. If you don't like cold water, or if you heat up your hot tub in the summer too, it seems reasonable. It may only extend the swimming season by a few weeks on each side of the season, but that's a nice plus. Also, like I said, my wife doesn't like cold water, even in the summer. Using my AC to cool my house and heat my pool without any extra costs is amazing.
The important part there is that they listened, they researched it, and they gave me an answer. They could have totally brushed me off, but they didn't. That was cool. Turns out the owner was an engineer and consultant in a past life. That's really awesome.

All of their field technicians are well educated and highly recommended. We have been honored to have Luis help us out on many occasions. He is Fantastic! Also, when he came back down to check thermostat he heard a loud noise coming from our return vent. He asked if it had always sounded like that. We told him, it has sounded like a "freight train" for 18 years, when it runs. Bingo, he told us what the problem was .

We had a room that wasn't cooling. Luis came out and gave us a free estimate. I was able to make an appointment to do the work pretty quickly after that. Luis made some adjustments to our vents. Martin changed out a grill so that we could put our filters in our intake rather than at the unit. Martin worked hard to clean up anything that fell on the floor or blew out of the vents.
We had some blown insulation in the attic that ended up blowing through the vents, making them snow insulation. Martin worked hard to get it cleaned up. They worked diligently to check the air flow through each vent. After they finished my room still wasn't cooling enough. Luis came out two more times to get it to work correctly. These things take balance.
If you change one thing it can throw off the balance of another. With that being said, I had no problem with needing to have them come back out. Here is where Luis and Southern comfort met/exceeded my expectations; everything he had to do to make my vents work correctly was still covered under my initial estimate. They would have continued to come out until things were working as they should be.
Might there have been a company that could have done the work for a little less? I'm sure there are. But good companies like this one, make good on their promises and will strive to exceed your expectations. Sometimes you pay a tiny bit more for a lot higher quality, happier employees, and amazing customer service! I would highly recommend Luis and Southern Comfort for your HVAC needs.

We look for replacement our AC system and Tony has a lot of experience for HVAC system. He gives us a lot of helpful advice and is very responsible on the whole project to get our new ac installation. On time and cooperate with other technicians. He fits us quickly per our schedule. A week ago I had emergency service that led to a recommendation for a new unit. I called Southern Comfort to come out for a second look, and they sent Mike, who was able to walk me through his inspection process. He was very helpful, and extremely thorough. Tony and his crew are the BEST. I needed a new HVAC unit for downstairs. The old compressor was 26 years old! I had planned to use another company (one that I had used before), but called Southern Comfort Mechanical for another quote. Tony came out the next day and spent time discussing my needs and the condition of our old system. He was very thorough and professional.
The other company was nowhere near as as thorough, and I just didn't get a good feeling from them. I'm so glad I called Southern Comfort! They were amazing -- very professional, hard working, neat, quick, and the new system looks (and works) great! I'll never use any other company for my HVAC needs. Oops -- I almost forgot -- Southern Comfort was also a couple of thousand dollars cheaper than the other guys!

The staff at Southern Comfort is great. I called dispatch and a service was scheduled the same day. The unit was purchased from Southern Comfort 5 years ago next month and we haven’t had any issues at all. The techs arrived today with all their PPE on and was verbal with their trouble shooting so we understood what was the issues. They trouble shot the unit and repaired as needed. Your business is only as good as your employees and with the staff at Southern Comfort currently they have a winning team

Having to do a complete installation in my house, I was nervous about time, price, quality....everything. Shane came to my house within two days of calling to set up an appointment. He was beyond thorough and patient with me and answered all of my questions and put my mind at ease. Within a week the installers were at my house and everything was done beautifully and without a hitch within a day.
I am amazed at how well and fast they cleaned up everything. It's as if they were never here! I can't say enough how happy I am with my new system and how glad I am that I chose Southern Comfort for such a big home improvement decision. Thank you guys!

After a horrible experience with another company, we were very pleased with Southern Comfort. They seem very honest and charge thousands - yes, I mean thousands - on new units compared to some larger shops in the area. Southern Comfort was very informative, not pushy and gave us their recommendations
on what to do with a blown unit still under warranty.
We waited a few extra days before replacing it as they went to their Lennox sale rep to see if Lennox would do anything. Install of the new unit went well, they answered all of our questions and its working great. We will be using Southern Comfort for all of our AC/Heat needs in the future. All and all, very happy and highly recommend

My a/c quit on me Saturday evening. I tried calling several companies on Sunday morning. If I was able to connect at all, I could not get an appointment for same day or I could not get a specific time frame.
Robert from Southern Comfort called me back within minutes after I left a message for him. He gave me a time frame when he could be there, same day and explained what he would need to do to evaluate the problem.
We agreed on price and time. About an hour before his scheduled time, Robert called and said he could come out, I was happy to say yes, as my house was now almost 90 degrees. Within 5 minutes after his arrival, Robert had determined that the capacitor was bad. He was able to replace it and had my house cooling down in no time. I appreciate the prompt and honest service that I received from Robert and Southern Comfort on a very warm Sunday.

I am so glad I found this company to help me with my A/C. Chris came out and was very professional and punctual. He walked me through what he was doing and explained the things I should think about moving forward with my unit. At no point did he try and sell me on things I didn't need. He educated me on the issue I was having and what he would recommend for the future. Luckily I don't need the unit replaced yet but when I need maintenance done or the time comes for it to be replaced I know who I will be calling first.

Amazing company. Amazing customer service. Have had our units serviced a couple of times by one of the technicians, Shane. He is extremely courteous and trustworthy. He takes the time to point out potential issues and actually show me the part and why it is bad or may be failing soon! Southern Comfort did a wonderful job installing a new HVAC in my home. The existing system was 18 years old, Freon leaked out and coils had to be replaced. It was time for a new unit. Southern Comfort charged they system and replaced a capacitor free of charge. Allowing time for the new unit to arrive and schedule the install. The installation went great, the crew was polite and very cautious to not damage and keep house clean. Southern Comfort was very cost competitive and trustworthy. I highly recommend them for your Heating and HC needs. I'll use them gain once my second old A/C fails...

We have had such great experiences with everyone at Southern Comfort. They are super aware of the importance of heat and air for families and went out of their way to fix our air conditioner because they know we have two young children. Fantastic Experience. This was my first experience with Southern Comfort Mechanical, and certainly not my last! I signed up for their maintenance plan. It was a complete inspection and the service was excellent. Robert (one of the techs) was an absolute pleasure to invite in our home. We were w/o AC for 9 days waiting for our home warranty (Fidelity Home Warranty) and their contractors (Indoor Quality Repair) to fix. After repeated attempts, I finally gave up and called Southern Comfort. They fixed the issue the same day I called and in less than 1 hour. They also educated me on how to check the Freon and did not come in trying to sell me a new unit. Highly recommend!

I have to agree with all the previous reviews. I selected Southern Comfort based on Yelp and it's all true about the excellent customer service from making the appointment to actual repair..... And the repair cost was VERY reasonable! This was a pleasant surprise as we needed to get our A/C back up & running before 100+ temperatures continue. Thank you so much & I will keep you at the top of my list anytime we have HVAC needs!
