5 stars just isn't enough for Don and his crew! Honest, professional, high quality work. excellence all the way around.and I mean all the way around. These guys do it all.from simple repairs to the all out re-model. He installed new beautiful flooring throughout the house, he repaired our kitchen cabinetry, kitchen faucet, bathroom sinks, bathtub, toilet, walls, the fence and more things around here that I can't remember. lol. Many thanks to Don, Steve, Rudy and Sam!

What have we *not* used Don's help for? Not much. We've done a huge kitchen renovation, built a portico, master bathroom renovation, extensive new deck to hold a 1/2 ton brick oven, among others, as well as countless repairs. Through it all, we've been grateful for Don's intelligence, attention to detail, humor, and incredible dedication to solving the problems you care about.
At every turn, he's been there to provide a logical array of options, providing full and understandable (never condescending!) detail on pros and cons, and he is in every way many many levels above what you'd hope to find in a contractor. I would not dream of undertaking a non-trivial renovation without his help.

I just contacted Don to see if he could come help me with a dishwasher issue. I told him what was going on but, unfortunately he let me know that he was completely booked and couldn't help me in the near future. However, he stayed on the phone with me and essentially diagnosed my problem for me. I went back and did as he suggested, and my problem was fixed. So thankful for Don's honesty, helpfulness and great attitude! Next time I need work done around the house, I will definitely be calling him.

We've used Don and his team many times over the years for jobs very big and very small. Austin is incredibly lucky to have these guys here. Don is very detail-oriented, hyper-focused on solving for what is important to you, and always patient, clear and totally non-condescending as he proactively walks you through the options and offers you intelligent, guided choices. A smart and fantastic guy leading a killer crew - the only choice, in my view, for home repair and improvements.

Don has helped me with home repairs for the last 10 years -- projects ranging from installing a ceiling fan to building a tree house. He and his crew are always professional, courteous and punctual. They do quality work and clean up thoroughly afterwards. His pricing is fair and worth every penny. I highly recommend Mr. Done Right.

This was the 4th time we called Don to work on our house and rental property. These projects ranged from very large to pretty small. In each case his work was superior. I no longer call around for bids for any project - I just call Don. He and his crew are attentive to details; they make sure that we are satisfied at each step along the way; and they offer excellent suggestions which ultimately improve the final product.

Don left a huge, positive impression with me. In a nutshell, this man knows his stuff. Like Holmes on Homes, Don would do well on HGTV. I appreciate his candor in being honest with me about how I was approaching my project.backwards, starting with the roof, kitchen remodel, etc. He noted that I should have my foundation checked out first and foremost, otherwise all renovation work would be at risk for rework. Upfront about timelines, fees, what he and his Team do do, and don't.basically what you see is what you get. I definitely would use Don. Highly, highly recommended. He saved me a lot of time and money just by being honest.

Don Fenton, aka Mr. Done Right, has been our handyman for at least 10 years, and he and his awesome crew have done a wide variety of projects and repairs for us over that time. Some of these have involved redoing what previous handymen had not done well. He always hires really good people and trains them well, believing in the traditional apprentice model.
He also pays them well, which means he may be a bit more expensive than some others out there, but the cost is absolutely worth it when you want the job done right the first time. He's very much in demand, but always returns phone calls and texts promptly, and he's worked us into his schedule when we were desperate (like with a recent water heater leak). Don and his crew care about people and care about their work. Without a doubt the best handyman we've ever had!

Honest, fair, punctual and professional. Mr Done Right, Don, has completed 2 jobs for me and I can't recommend him or his crew high enough. They are very thorough and always exceeded my expectations. They are very much worth the wait, as he is regularly backed up a few weeks, or even months due to the quality of work.

Don and his team, Steve and Andrew, did everything we wanted and more. This team is skilled and smart. They problem solve constantly and were able to fix things that Plumbers and Electricians had not been able to correct. Mr. Done Right deserves all the 5 start reviews they have! Would recommend and will hire again.

Don and his team do amazing work. No short cuts or cutting corners. The work is solid and done right. They are courteous, professional and great at working through unexpected issues. You are kept informed through every step of the project so there are no surprises. I'll definitely use him for my next project!

Don consistently produces excellent results no matter what the project is. He's done big jobs that have exceeded the imagination and small jobs that just need to be done with the same dedication to detail. As his name implies he gets it 'done right' so you don't have to worry about it in the future. If he can't get to you right away you'll be glad you waited for him to meet your needs. I highly recommend him and plan to use him for my next project!

I've worked with a lot of contractors in the past 50 years, and Don is tied for #1 with an excellent contractor who built two additions for me. That's saying a lot because I've hired dozens of contractors over the years; no one else would rate better than 4 stars, and a lot of them would rate only 2 and 3 stars. Don is a thorough professional who really is Mr. Done Right.
If he encounters a problem during a project, he explains it and lays out the options for dealing with it. Don and his crew have completed a long list of projects at my house, in periods spanning August-October 2016, May-July 2017, and February-early March 2019. Many of the projects were small in scope, but no project was too small to be done carefully and to my complete satisfaction.
Some of the bigger projects merit special mention. In 2016, what began as repairs to our front deck became deck demolition and replacement when Don uncovered major structural problems with the existing deck -- and it was a big one, high off the ground. I'm extremely pleased with the new deck; it's built to last and looks great. The big project in 2017 was the complete refurbishment of a two-level deck system (including screened area) at the back of our house.
In lieu of demolishing the deck system and starting over, which would have been a massive undertaking, Don practically rebuilt it from the ground up by replacing supporting posts and beams, decking, and screening. This year's big project was the replacement of a post that supports a corner of the house that is 1-story-plus above ground level. Also, the inspection of leaking windows uncovered another contractor's defective siding job, which had to be redone and improved on with a flashing system of Don's design. I should add that it is a pleasure to work with Don's friendly, courteous, and helpful crew. He leads by example.

I feel like I finally found someone who knows what they are doing around my old, and strange and unusual house. I used to go for the cheapest possible. Now I go for the best possible. I am thoroughly satisfied with the work Don and his crew did. They were cool too, and mellow. I will definitely hire them again. They fixed up my privacy fence and it looks better than when it was new.
They also fixed my gate, and it finally opens and closes. They fixed up my dripping shower, and the tiles in the shower, and the messed up AC vents under the house. It was a lot, and they did a good job with it all. Hells yea!

I had a unusual issue of a residential door set in a commercial frame. I put off getting this door fixed out of fear of finding a carpenter who wouldn't know what to do but would attempt to fix it, do a poor job and then need that work redone on top of the original problem. After having one two handymen look at the issue and tell me they couldn't fix it, I had Don and his team out.
They spent a full day working magic on the frame, cutting and realigning parts, creating new screws to fit the unique holes. going all out. I ended up with a perfectly functioning door and the details of the job look flawless. This work is built to last and clearly was done with pride. I will be a return customer for any other home repair in the future.

We've used Don for 2 projects now, one major (filling a sinkhole under our driveway) and one a little more minor (some custom door repairs & replacement) and we've also got him signed up for another project soon. What amazes me is his depth of knowledge and understanding regarding how to fix a very wide range of problems.

Mr Done Right offers a lot more than just an installation or an attempt to fix the problems you have. He lays out all options and advises about which is the proper way. His range of expertise in home renovation is broad, and he can manage multiple fixes simultaneously with a very clean and efficient crew; Truly a one-stop-shop for major and minor home repair.
We had a great experience with a long list of minor-to-medium fixes for our previously-renovated house. The crew was friendly and adaptive as we decided what to fix and how. Upon completion I was given a very detailed invoice with receipts for all materials and what time was spent on each task. We will no doubt be bringing Don back for another round of fixes as soon as we can book him. His time is worth the wait.

In our 35 years of living in Austin, my husband and I have gone through a lot of handymen. I have to say that Don Fenton is the most professional and knowledgeable handyman we've ever had the privilege of knowing. On his first trip to our house, we had a few small things that needed repair along with one big job, and we expected him to just come by and give us an estimate.

I called Don immediately after a previous repair man bailed on me and he was on-site within 30 minutes of the phone call. Not only did he take care of the issue, he pointed out an additional problem that may have gone unnoticed by other technicians. He's straight-forward and a true pro in an industry, that frankly, doesn't have a reputation for either.
You can trust Don will not only get the work done, but will make sure you as the customer know exactly what he did and how he did it. Don't make the mistake I did of not calling Don first!

Thank you so much to the man on the phone! I walked into our new place and it was a wtf scenario. These guys couldn't make it out today, but they walked me through what I needed to do to get my stovetop in running order and gave me advice regarding my thermostat, to get me through until they'd be able to come out, if the phone advice didn't prove successful. Major thank you for that!!!

I had the pleasure of hiring Don for my house remodel right after purchase to put up as a rental. The project is actually still in process and in it's last stages of wrapping up. This review is focused on a very important aspect of how valuable Don has been for me. I currently live in Seattle(recently moved from Austin) and purchased a property in Austin.
After engaging Don after finding him on Yelp -he was very responsive on his scheduling process - the guy is in high demand and he's usually scheduled couple of months out. If you put down a small $50 intent fee, he will slot you into his schedule and move you up as spaces open. Let me start off by saying that putting your trust into an all around contractor while doing a project completely remote from the other side of the country is a huge daunting and complex task. Don first met with me while i was in Austin for the initial meeting and i sent him a to do list of everything i needed from my purchase inspection and a few things i wanted to get done without any inclination of budget.
After getting on his schedule and work commenced, he went through my check list line by line to make sure all of the top priorities were done and always gave suggestions on what he thought was necessary vs not necessary and where you can get the most value installing something that is utility vs decoration or a combination of both. Fast forward to today and i'm 90% completed - i cut him checks incrementally during the project phase so he could pay his crew on time - to put your trust into a contractor while doing this remotely and actually having quality work done right, and extremely competitively priced is a life saver. Don's knowledge is on the level of those guys on PBS "this old house" that i always watched as a kid and he over explains everything he does and why he's doing it while being extremely concise without adding any fluff.
Unless you are using friends you trust - Don's really the best yelp alternative for an all inclusive contractor/handyman you can find and put your trust into. If you're a business developer or investor and need properties updated to code and remodeled while you're away on business - you can't go wrong!

Instead, he showed up with two guys and they knocked out all the small stuff in a couple of hours.
When I expressed surprise, he said "Oh, I always travel with my crew. it saves time." I'll say! The guys with him were just as nice as he was, and they all cleaned up after themselves so you couldn't tell they'd been there. The big job was repair of a patio cover, and he said he didn't have time to do that right away but that he would call us when he did.
This is a story we've heard many times, and most of the time that's the last we hear from a workman. But Don did call, a few weeks later, and set up a time for the job. This one turned out to be a much bigger job than any of us realized, because as they got into it they found more rotted wood and other problems. The guys who first put it up had done a very cheap job, taking many shortcuts, and nothing was to spec. Don and his team wound up taking the whole thing down and starting over, building us a beautiful new patio cover with the right degree of slope and proper insulation, etc.
They also discovered some rotted wood and damaged flashing around the chimney, which they fixed at the same time. It was a joy to watch them work, as it always is when people take pride in their work and do it well. When we were standing in the back yard talking with Don, surveying the finished product, one of his guys was going around the yard looking for and collecting every small piece of debris that had fallen in the grass, saying he didn't want anyone's mower to hit something.
I didn't even notice until after they left that they had also cleaned the patio! I can't imagine calling anyone else now for our home repair needs. If we have to wait a while, I know he'll call and that the wait (and the price) will be worth it. That's a great feeling.

Wow, what a great experience with Don the handyman and his team. We had an unexpected leak that crept into an adjoining closet. We had no idea the extent of the damage at the time. I called Don, who made a point to stop by at the end of his workday to take a look at the damage. The very same week, we had another unexpected home issue (the septic) arise that required additional contractor phone calls and appointment scheduling. Needless to say, I was fairly stressed about the situation.
By far, dealing with Don was least stressful part of the whole week! He and his crew are prompt, polite and capable. The quality of his work is impeccable. When he & his team finished cleaning up their workspace, I wanted to hug him! Thank you, Don & Crew, for doing it RIGHT.

Mr Done Right is in very high demand and he is very busy. There is a reason for this. He is very professional, honest and does high quality work. He goes above and beyond to make sure his customers are 100% fully satisfied. I would highly recommend his services to others looking for a good handyman for any of their homes needs. Thank you again.

Super professional craftmanship. Since a picture can speak thousand words, check out the 2 uploaded photos for the driveway fence lights that Don put in for me. We started with a plain black fence that was hard to see at night. Don went beyond to source for a number of lamps and we ended up with these perfectly match ones. The electrical wiring is well hidden that nobody can tell that the lamps are not from the original.

Don came over to help us with the "simple" task of changing the batteries on our smoke detectors specially for one that was approx. 20ft up. He and his partner were polite, professional, good communicators when setting up the appointment, and pretty much everything you could ask for in great handyman. Greatly appreciate his help and his professionalism with the job. I'll certainly have him and his team back for more complicated tasks. Great to work with!

Don has done work for us at two different homes. He was recommended to us by a good friend. His prices are reasonable but the main reason I like to use him is because he does an excellent job and he is incredibly reliable. Additionally he does not suggest additional repairs just to charge us more. I'm very ignorant when it comes to home repair so I'm very happy to have someone do the work that I can trust.

Mr. Fenton purchased an extremely large Morgan storage building from me after I had hesitantly placed an ad on craigslist. Among my many trepidations, the most daunting was the fact that the enormous shed would have to be disassembled on-site and removed from the side gate of my backyard. After arranging a time for removal, Mr. Fenton and his crew of polite professionals arrived on time and worked diligently to disassemble and remove the shed without any damage to my backyard or fence.
They completed the task in a few hours and even picked up the trash that had been collecting underneath-for God knows how many years, even after I had told them that it wasn't necessary to do so. Since purchasing our home, last week, with this eyesore of a space-suck, my husband and I are relieved to have a full backyard and are blessed that Mr. Fenton answered our ad.
It is abundantly evident that his professionalism and customer-care parlay into everything he does. With a new-old home on our hands, full of updates to be done, we will definitely be seeking the expertise of the Mr. Done Right team. This gentleman and his associates are a Class Act!
