Pokorn Construction

This is not a review of bad work, but complete non-responsiveness. The project manager came to our house to discuss our project and give us a quote. He said it would be two weeks to work up the quote. 6 weeks later. We have never heard back. I've emailed, called and texted the project manager and the owner for follow-up. I have received no response, not even to say we are working on it or we can't take your project. Nothing.

This is unfortunate. The company's work get great reviews but even if they responded to me now, I am not sure I would ever feel comfortable hiring them. Edited to add: The company owner reached out to me. They are overwhelmed with work and fell behind on communication.

I've waited seven years to remodel my home so I could save the cash to get all the upgrades I want. Called Pokorn about 6 weeks before Ida and told Christian what I wanted done: kitchen counter replaced, reface cabinets, new siding for entire home, and new windows. Once I gave him my zip code (I live in the east), he said he'd call me back.

Three months later, I never heard back. I didn't bother to call again. Meanwhile, I found plenty of reputable contractors who DO want my cash. Thao with PRISM construction (with perfect, 5 star reviews on EVERY site, including yelp) won the $40,000 job. Thanks to Hurricane Ida and insurance, I get a new roof, too. Trustworthy Thao with Prism gets that gig, too.

Christian, Reggie, Lee + the entire Pokorn crew are absolute life savers! They are always willing to help us on varying projects no matter how big or small. They are kind, creative, helpful, on time, and their work speaks for itself. I cannot recommend these folks anymore! They are an incredible go-to business for literally anything you might need help with.

They are also extremely well versed in French Quarter construction which is supremely helpful if you need to make any changes or renovations within the bounds of the VCC. In New Orleans it can be tough to find reliable help and I feel like we hit the jackpot with Pokorn Construction!

Christian, Casey, and the entire Pokorn Construction crew were unfailingly professional, courteous, and extremely attentive to detail on a job whose parameters shifted more or less continually, and moreover, went above and beyond to make what could've been a wildly frustrating experience move along in a smooth, timely, and responsive manner. Before Pokorn, I employed other general contractors to work on this project whose lack of organization, candor, and commitment left my faith in New Orleans' contractors in general quite shaken.

Even though Pokorn Construction's competence, honesty, and high level of engagement has more than renewed my confidence, I hope never to have to find another GC, and will look forward to Pokorn Construction's working to complete my renovations as they proceed into 2021.

Christian and his staff are very pleasant and honest. I have even recommended them to my co-workers when they have had home re-pair/plumbing needs. Recently, his staff members arrived to my location promptly and prepared to complete an estimate for me. They even took the time to explain to me the specifics of the quote, their concerns with the renovation regarding cost and offered alternative solutions. After several positive interactions with the company and the staff, Pokorn Construction is the only team I trust to complete my home improvement projects now.

Pokorn Construction were great throughout the home renovation process. Christian communicated with me in detail and was always on top of things. I have had the pleasure to work as part of the Pokorn Construction group and know the ins and outs of their approach to construction, framing and finishing. The team of contractors who work with the owner Christian Pokorn know what clients expect and aim for a high quality end product. They're not just doing "some job" and when Christian walks through and sees something is off even a little--from the lines on trimming to the sturdiness of a construction--the team will work until they get a perfect end product.

In a city like New Orleans that's under some of the greatest weather and moisture pressures, but where presentation, pomp and circumstance are such a huge part of the city, you want a construction team like Pokorn to take care of your needs--from the dirtiest projects to the finest finishes.

I have used Pokorn for two projects so far and I could not be more happy with the outcome on both. They installed a driveway and handled the entire process (permit and all). Most recently, they remodeled my master bedroom. It has made a use difference in our quality of life. We had noise and light issues in our bedroom that made it difficult to sleep Christian's knowledge of what to do is so reassuring when trying to resolve any issue with a house. I don't envision a circumstance where I would use anyone other than Christian and Pokorn for any projects on my home.

We hired Pokorn constructions due to the reviews online, and the Company exceeded my expectations. We moved to a new place last year, and we were looking for someone to replace the glass on our front door. We called Christian on a Wednesday and his crew came over on Friday. They replaced the old windows within two hour, cleaned up after themselves and we even received a follow-up call from Christian to see if everything was they way we wanted it on Monday. Top notch Company, with great customer service and a delightful staff. Since then we have used Pokorn for several other projects.

This is a sad review to post. I've known Christian for 3 years and have used him on several home repair and update projects. The latest project was a garage remodel which included installation of two new windows, insulation, and leveling our floor and applying an epoxy coating. This project started in November of 2018. The first phase was clearing out old cabinets in the garage and prepping the walls for the insulation to be sprayed.

I asked Christian what would go over the insulation to make it aesthetically pleasing. He told me you could shave the insulation flat then paint over it. Not having ever experienced this process I took his word for it. The finished area looked like dry foam that could not be painted over. He then put up plywood over the insulation and claimed he was giving me this for free since I was a good customer, only to find out later that he estimated the cost to be $1,700 for labor and materials. Seriously?

To put plywood on just the walls of a 250sq ft garage? Next were the windows. I was out of town when these were installed, only to return and find that one of them wouldn't open at all. He came out after a month had gone by and worked on it for over an hour, only to have it break again. After another month an employee that I had never met came out and fixed it in 2 min. telling me it was a simple lever that needed to be adjusted.

Why Christian didn't know this is strange. Next was the floor. The cement was laid and not allowed to dry for the appropriate amount of time, meaning 24 hours instead of 30 days! So the epoxy that was laid over it never adhered. The Sherwin Williams rep for the epoxy product came out after I called to tell him about the flaking, and he confirmed that the cement was the issue, and that nothing, not even cement paint would adhere to it.

After bringing this to Christian's attention, he gave me a check for the amount of two boxes of epoxy and told me to have the current contractors I have working for me to fix the issue. I'm now left with a peeling floor I can't do anything with except put a floating floor over the entire area. This will definitely cost more than two boxes of epoxy!

This was a very straightforward project that went to hell in a hand basket with an extremely passive resolution on his part. The confusion for me is why he never had the human decency to come here and talk with me face to face so we can constructively come up with a solution. All I received were apologies from his employees saying how embarrassed they were with the job they did.

And he wonders why I hired other contractors for the remainder of our house project. Wow! 6 months to complete a super simple garage remodel and it's still a mess. Seriously the most unprofessional business practices I have ever encountered. If I could give a zero star rating I would. Treat people with respect and professionalism Christian! That's the foundation of a successful business!

Very professional, hands-down the best contractor in town. Young, smart and very attentive to detail. I have been working with Chris for years. He is awesome. he is very good person, very empathetic.

I got in touch with Christian, the owner of Pokorn Construction, because I had a long-distance novel handyman type project that I needed to have completed. It involved picking up some Home Improvement type that was only available at a store in New Orleans, breaking it down, and then shipping it up to me in Ohio. I chose Christian and his company because of the many positive reviews here on Yelp.

Christian was able to assign one of his top handyman to the project, and it was completed flawlessly and on time and on budget. We could not be happier with how things went. He even made things simpler for me by paying for the merchandise and the shipping himself, and then just invoicing me one grand total, which was very convenient and much appreciated.

I would thoroughly recommend Christian and his Construction Company on any projects and if I lived in the New Orleans area, he would be the first person I would get in touch with if I had need of a handyman or a general contractor!

We had a really great experience with Pokorn Construction. We did a complete gut and remodel of the kitchen as well as some work in our living area. From start to finish Christian and his crew were professional with all aspects of the job. From the clear and concise contract, to the money saving suggestions, to a full explanation of the cost and need for any change orders, we felt fully informed throughout the process.

The job was scheduled to take two months and hit its deadline. The crew kept the worksite as neat as possible. Finally, the quality of the work and the reaction from those seeing the finished project have been the best part of the process. Would definitely recommend them for your project.

I hired Pokorn Construction to help me build an addition to my place a few months ago. These guys were incredibly helpful and totally on the ball. Not only do they really know their stuff, but they are friendly and really easy to talk to. I've worked with contractors before who make you feel like a wimp for not knowing the difference between a flitch beam and a joist, but that's not Christian and his crew. Professional, affordable, and affable, I would recommend them to anyone.

I found them on Yelp for a bathroom tile job. In comparison to other jobs he's done on his website, our job is on the smaller end. He didn't treat it any differently. Christian, the owner, was great with scheduling the estimate, and went above and beyond with the quote. He was very thorough with explaining everything and called when he was running late.

We got two site visits, and a quote within a week and a half from the first call. We ended up not using him as the quote was on the higher end of other estimates. I'm sure the work would have been worth it and he showed up when he said he was going to. I believe "you get what you pay for" would apply to them. They are the real deal, we just couldn't afford it.

I decided to contact this company because of the many great reviews, however my experience was not good. I contacted Christian to provide me with an estimate for some roof work and remodeling of a bathroom. He showed up on time to our appointment, seemed knowledgeable, and answered my questions (all things I appreciated- which is why I'm giving 2stars).

I provided my email per his request to send me the estimate but I still have not received anything from him and it has been about 2-3weeks. I contacted him via text message (as that was how we had communicated prior) asking about the estimate but he never responded. I guess he didn't want my business? Update- I told you up front that I was getting the estimate as the cost of this remodel was an essential part of my decision to buy the house. Before you left you asked for my email and did not say you could not provide me with an estimate I would not have wasted either of our times.

Quality from start to finish. A pleasure to deal with and very flexible. Will not hesitate to use Pokorn Construction again!

Christian and his team were great. They provided quality service at a reasonable price. One of their top qualities is that they think outside of the box. We had 2 issues that multiple contractors looked at, but none were able to identify the problem.

We hired Christian and his team to carpentry, woodwork and painting in our home - everything from building a banquette to staining the treads on our stairs. We were very pleased with the craftsmanship and their customer service. Pokorn is more expensive than most other contractors we've hired. (When you live in a 129 year old building, you hire a lot of contractors.) But the added cost was more than worth it for a renovation job well done. We would recommend Pokorn to others - and use them on our next project!

Chris is a regular here at the Rook Cafe. We were having some trouble with our air conditioner one morning. He gave us a free consultation, and had his A/C guy come out that same day! Great service at a nice price! I highly recommend Pokorn Construction!

Set an appointment for Reggie to come out and fix my window. He told me morning. At noon I started to call. I finally got ahold of him he said 2 or 4:30 pm. I said 4:30 would work better. He never showed and won't return my calls. Try someone else.

Having had some bad experiences with contractors in this past, i braced for this worst again this time. I didn't need to. Had some various construction and maintenance work done by Pokorn Construction. Found them to be very professional: arriving when promised, etc. For a NOLA contractor to (1) return phone calls regularly, (2) appear when promised, and (3) get a quote/estimate in short order are almost miraculous, and Pokorn did all three.

Beyond the great service, the work was done really well, and exactly as promised. No surprises, no unexpected changes. Really happy with the work done, and when i need more work from a contractor, i will certainly go back to Pokorn Construction.

I don't like to write this negative review because I liked Christian (hence the two stars), but whoever he had do work for me is costing me a lot. I hired them to do a series of things including a platform on my roof for AC units. Rather than properly bolting, they nailed through the shingles on my flat roof, causing me so much hassle and grief with roof leaks and other damage. I've had a roofer work on it extensively but now I just have to pull the platform off and have the entire roof redone due to the damage caused. Further I have to have the platform completely redone because they didn't create a platform that can withstand weather or hold things properly (incorrect materials used). I'm very upset about the thousands of dollars of damage caused by this poor work.

I realize now that I should have been up on the roof seeing what they were doing and demanding it be fixed properly, but I had a job and couldn't watch them nail holes. I shouldn't have had to. If they didn't know what they were doing, they should have either told me and declined the job or gotten the information from a reputable source. Now I'm looking at thousands of dollars in repair costs and am very upset.

I just had Christian and his team install a new faucet and garbage disposal. I couldn't be happier. Pokorn Construction is very professional, explaining everything in detail. I will definitely be using them again.

I had a couple of small projects, the sort that it is often hard to get anyone to bother with really, but Christian came right over and gave me an estimate and took on the projects immediately. His crew did a good job, despite some weather related delays, and I felt very comfortable having them in my house and around my dogs while I was at work. Christian maintains good contact throughout the job and always either answers the phone or returns calls promptly (a rare trait in contractors). Highly recommended.

Mr. Pokorn was nice enough to send me a personal message and referred me to someone else who would be less expensive. I greatly appreciate the gesture but I think I'll just do everything myself, especially after the harassment I received after my original review. Mr. Pokorn gave me an explanation of how he figured the costs but as an industrial engineer, my entire job is nothing but dealing with numbers in all business capacities, and I can't for the life of me figure out how charging nearly $300 to clean a gutter could possibly be justified. But, their balance sheets and cost/benefit analysis are none of my business. Also, you should all be aware, about two hours after posting my original review, someone (Yelp name is Atom B.) created an account just to harass me because they didn't like it.

I actually had to block the person because they wouldn't leave me alone. Now, it could have just been a troll but it is AWFULLY suspicious that the Atom B. account was created the same day as my review and there has been no other activity on his/her account.at all.just sayin'. If it wasn't someone associated with this company, Pokorn, they should probably let Yelp know.

Because now there is absolutely no chance this company will ever get my business after being harassed like that. If it was someone from Pokorn, well, that's really sad, and cowardly, and I feel sorry that you have someone associated with your company like that.

Made an appointment for them to come over to give us an estimate on repairing our kitchen ceiling. No one showed up. Twice. Not trying a third time.
